Did you try taming a pink one? I know they are both shale spiders just with a different colour. If you really don't want to then sure purple one is fine.

I'm curious, do any of the arachnophobics here have issue with silithids, beetles, and/or shale spiders? Might want to ask yourself that when you set your restrictions for this.

I had issues with silithids and wasps, but it was more of the "eww, bug" kind. I got over it when I got assigned the wasp, the bug factor wasn't an issue because the pet itself is awesome. Shale spiders don't look like spiders, really, so no problem there, I think they're adorable.
I only have a problem with spiders. I really, really don't like them, to the point of never going to Azjol-Nerub after I got all the loot I needed and covering my eyes during certain scenes in LotR: Return of the King and other mowies with spiders in them.

Official? Me? Oh gosh no! I only started it after Slic had been gone for a week or something. And now he has been gone for a long while. I'm only doing this until he comes back (err if he comes back?). He didn't pick me to take over or ask me or anything. I just saw the requests piling up after Slic had said he'd be gone for a while so I thought I would help...I also wanted a random pet assigned to me because I was bored! And last week when I let things pile up for a few days Tyger helped out and no one had an issue with his/her rolls. So when it starts to pile up I really don't mind a bit of help. I guess I just can't have like 5 or 6 people doing the random roles, cuz no one will know whose rolls to use.

So I'm going to do my own rolls for everyone and repost Lupis' rolls with mine and you can decide which pet you like better.
