Sambas Search Continues
Feels like forever when u wait for a rare. its even worse when u hear someone just tamed or just killed. but anyway, does anyone know any general information about Sambas and his spawn points? like times he spawned for your/a tame, (or kill. it happens)
Re: Sambas Search Continues
Actual spawn times are pointless... there are so many variables that can change them from server resets to him sitting up and untouched for x amount of time after he spawns to the "randomizer" tacked on to his spawn code. www.wowhead.com is the best place to find spawn points and other information like "he spawns under a tree here" or "he wanders the plains here where there are no other creatures." Go there and all your questions will be answered much better than they can be here since they offer maps with precise dots on them as to where people saw him last. I find that site invaluable when hunting for rares.

Re: Sambas Search Continues
I heard he respawns after about 24 hours or so, but I am not sure on that.
As for spawn locations, I got mine and the second most from the bottom of the spawn points for him.
If you are not using it be sure to get and use NPCScan for him, he can be tricky to spot from the air.

just do what i do, dont camp, its a waste of time, boring and pointless. look in my siggy all them were caught by NOT camping, just do flybys. like every few hours ill go fly by there spawns a few times. got sambas and karoma within a day of hitting 85 lol. 2 madexx's in 2 days, and all 3 of them are heavy camped on my server. when i set myself on getting a rare i think the longest ive waited was like 3 days before i found it on a fly by and its so much easier than camping. even got sambas and Ghost crawler for a friend by just doing random flybys.
and also about the people who "say" they killed it. from what ive seen on my server most the time is just someone being a Dbag and lying to piss ya off, other times its actually hunters who want to get the tame lying to get you to leave. if they cant show the corpse then they never killed it. if they say i skinned him, ask for them to link there profession ( 9/10 there not even a skinner and cant link it lol)
but good luck on the hunt. dont over do it, and be prepared for the worst when it comes time to tame, be ready to tame as fast as possible to prevent ganks and other stuff because if sambas is camped on ur server anything like mine then yuo got some serious competition

Re: Sambas Search Continues
I tend to stick to the 6-24 hour window. 6 hours is a pretty good break time, 8 if you need sleep. And yes, do grab Silver Dragon or NPCscan. He's sneaky and can get snatched up FAST. It only takes 10 seconds or less for a tame after all.
And sec has something of a point. Though, I tend to favor camping on and off with flybys as my mood sits - like camping, flybys is still luck based. seclipse got lucky. You might, you might not. That said, his advice is still solid. People are going to lie to you. You might get lucky, you might not. Tame fast, but do tag the mob so if they kill it at least you get the tear I guess. He's a cool cat, but don't kill yourself getting him.
Granted, this is from someone who took 6+ weeks really, really hunting for Aotona and over a year to get Skoll. I suppose *my* luck isn't as good as some, but it's better than others. That's just the RNG. Just don't expect results like his off the bat or you'll go loony with frustration. Let it happen. It will, sooner or later.

Your Ghost Saber, Gezzarak, Chromaggus and most likley your Echeyakee were not obtained by just flying byseclipse wrote:just do what i do, dont camp, its a waste of time, boring and pointless. look in my siggy all them were caught by NOT camping, just do flybys.

To Demonwolf, I usually, when camping a rare will put my toon on a flying mount, hover above a spawn point, turn the volume up to max on my computer and go get a book to read or work on other things on the net. You don't have to sit there staring at the scenery or you will go insane. Just park your toon, move them every once in awhile to avoid afk'ing, and then just go work on other things. Thats how I got most of the rares that I own.
Re: Sambas Search Continues
I've camped. Not often, but I have camped. I make it not be a waste of time by watching TV or a movie while I'm doing it. WoW on one monitor, Hulu on the other.
I usually am a steadfast non-camper... s'why I never got Loq, or Aotona. But, I made exceptions this time just because I wanted to get the pets out of the way and not have to worry about the greater competition later as other people learned about them. I did flybys for countless days for any of the rare tamables in Sholazar Basin and never got a one. Camps seem to work better for me in some cases. :/
Sambas - maybe a total of six hours, max. Much of it was done as I was questing the zone. There were one or two two hour stretches, and the rest was just flyby. Skoll was like this, too, as was Gondria... Gondria had a little more "standing in one place" type of camp time, but not a whole lot.
Terrorpene- I had a turtle, but I never really liked it because of the color scheme. I was in BAD need of a decent tank pet, and I wanted one with shell shield as my gorilla was just sub-par to me. Terrorpene was the gateway pet for my long Cata camps. 10.5 hr spawn window for me. First time I visited the area, I saw her... but another hunter was there first. Not wanting to be a jerk, I just watched and congratulated, then took note of the time. I logged off for six hours to go do other things, and when I returned, I sat for 4 hours, watching other hunters come and go. Got her at the 10.5 hour mark, give or take a few minutes.
I thought that was bad until I camped Jadefang. Holy cow. I logged on one morning around 7am, and Jadefang didn't spawn until 6:10pm. This was after a 4-6 hr camp the previous night, dealing with irritating people who told me in no uncertain terms, "imma kill it regardless. i want the pet" Whatever, jerkface.
When she spawned, the goblin hunter nearby was afk. Phew. Jadefang was THE WORST CAMP EVER.
Karoma was the easiest. He surprised me one night when I was doing a final sweep before bed. Zero camping for this one.
In all honesty, though, don't go nuts with the camping, but if you can be doing something else while idling in a particular spot, breaking it up with flybys of the other spawn points, you may find it worth your while.
