Fair enough Wain but...
The models still need work :p
The hair is pixely, the legs bend wonkily. The frame bends in all the wrong ways.. It stretches and squishes and it just screams look at me, I'm over 5 years old!!!! when next to say, even a Saberworg.

OK this is the first time Ive seen a Hyena Post and JUST as I was about to make one myself.
Stripes. The best and most revered Hyena Family in RL is the Striped Hyena. (also almost extinct actually) I would REALLY REALLY like to see those come about. I mean..we have an Egyptian area. The Hyena in ancient Egypt were the Striped Variety.
Hyena are one of THE 2 best pets for MMs. Please fix them.
AND give us some Striped Varieties.

Yeah, I'm not asking for it to be realistic though--that one's not meWain wrote:I'm not disagreeing with you that this model might have issues, but addressing a separate thread of discussion I wonder if the artists of the time deliberately avoided making them like real hyenas. The real life ones are fairly slender and their appearance isn't all that savage and terrifying.

I don't mind the art itself. I mean I love my wolf and his silly huge paws; however, the posture for the hyenas gets to me. They looked much better before and the new posture makes them look deformed. :/
I love hyenas as well both in and out of game. The first pet in game to truly grab my heart strings and hold on was my orange hyena Sekai.

Re: Anyone Else WTB Hyena Fix?
I love the way that the hyenas used to carry themselves! Meza always seemed alert and ready for anything, like nothing could get past her. Head up and focused, some folks might think that they didn't look as fierce but the overwhelming confidence they seemed to exude was palpable. There was no doubt in their minds that they couldn't take whatever they were after, happily whooping all the way.
Then the change happened, head down defensively snarling. The body posture they gained made them look more like whipped dogs than anything else. I know the propose was to make hyenas look more intimidating but all the new skeleton did (save for fixing the tale problem) was make them appear to cower and attack like they were unsure of themselves. I hated the change, it reminds me to much of working with abused animals. The posture works with the wolves in game and does add that level of ferocity because of the model design but it really takes away from the hyenas personality and presence.

Re: Anyone Else WTB Hyena Fix?
Hyenas always used the wolf animations, but since hyenas had their head up when wolves have their head level with their bodies, it caused for some odd looking animations. With the head down hyenas now actually scratch their head while idle. Before it just looked like they where waving at you with their back leg because with their upright head their foot couldn't even reach their head.
Hyenas still have this upright head problem with some animations. Here is how a hyena sleeps:

See the problem? hehe
I'm not saying hyena look better with the crooked neck position, just saying Blizzard probably did this to fix animation problems.

A rare visitor to this forum now that I don't play WoW anymore, but forever a Petopian.
Re: Anyone Else WTB Hyena Fix?
While I can understand what you are saying they were trying to fix some issues, I honestly think it cause more problems than it solved. Beyond the head up and down issue. When they move now their back breaks. They no longer have that rolling lope they use to. :/
@Rarako - You know you are right I couldn't put my finger on what I disliked about it, but they constantly look like they are giving submission signals. :/ *hugs Sekai*

Re: Anyone Else WTB Hyena Fix?
Yay! My roommates thought I had lost my mind when I started ranting after the change happened. Yes, the postures they have in game now are similar to some hyenas exhibit in the wild but they are only used in submissive instances where they need to be defective such as getting attacked with out having the upper hand or when defying an alpha.Akycha wrote:@Rarako - You know you are right I couldn't put my finger on what I disliked about it, but they constantly look like they are giving submission signals. :/ *hugs Sekai*

Case in point. ^
And now just for fun.....

*giggles* that picture is great.
I have to admit one thing I love about this thread is realizing I'm not the only one out there that loves Hyenas.

Re: Anyone Else WTB Hyena Fix?
I agree about the head. Most pictures I found on the Internet seem to indicate that they hold their heads high in most cases. I disagree, however, about the slender features - to some point, at least. When I saw the picture posted by Irie, I remembered a website I came across some months ago: http://www.pieterhugo.com/selected-work ... -other-men
This photographer met some guys - some sort of animal handlers and medicine men - in Nigeria who tame hyenas, monkeys and pythons for a living. These beasts are huge and have quite "chunky" features. Their fur colour is more or less identical to Giggler in Desolace. Anyway, they remind me more of "The Hound of the Baskervilles" than other hyenas I've seen.
I bet they wouldn't run away from a lion
