Ehh, always wondered about that. It remains a timesaver with no other benefits but avoiding typing it in wrong. I've never been hacked though.

I'm not familiar with the post it notes, but copying and pasting a password is much more secure than typing it out.
A key logger does exactly what it sounds like - it records the keystrokes you make. If you copy and paste the most it will pick up is Ctrl C and Ctrl V...which gives them nothing.

I was in the mac store with my sis and noticed they do sell spy ware and anti virus programs even though the sales people say you don't need them. Macs supposedly block outbound things, but as they are growing more popular they're bound to fall victim more. I'd recommend an authenticator.

See, that's what I thought >.< I copy with a mouseclick and then use Ctrl V. So the only key useage a keylogger would be recording is Ctrl V. I started doing it when my password for the week was not in English and I would have moments of "oh crap, was that the right way around."Vephriel wrote:I'm not familiar with the post it notes, but copying and pasting a password is much more secure than typing it out.A key logger does exactly what it sounds like - it records the keystrokes you make. Cut/Paste uses the clipboard. IF you remember, you can copy a large amount of items to a clipboard and then select what items to paste. Not a great place to have Cuts of your Users & Passwords. Not that key loggers are looking at your clipboard
Just an FYI..

It's been a little while since I was last developing software for Windows, but unless things have changed drastically Veph is 100% right on this. However, there's no reason why malware can't also eavesdrop on your clipboard. Whether they do or don't, I am not in a position to say, sorry.Vephriel wrote:I'm not familiar with the post it notes, but copying and pasting a password is much more secure than typing it out.A key logger does exactly what it sounds like - it records the keystrokes you make. I think that's the point Tal is making. I've been told a couple of times that ctrl-c-ctrl-v is not safe because of this, and that it has been used to hack accounts. It could very well be incorrect, though. I honestly have no idea if they go to that extent, but I wouldn't be surprised.Anyia wrote:It's been a little while since I was last developing software for Windows, but unless things have changed drastically Veph is 100% right on this. That was the point I was making. Keyloggers arent the only things that can get your password. My neighbor whos worked in the computer repair and tech support for many years said to me once copy/paste makes it actually easier for them cause it's 'cached' so to speak in your computer unless you reboot it. So any password sniffer can find it with copy/paste.Sarayana wrote:I think that's the point Tal is making. I've also had a few friends and guildies hacked because they copy/pasted, thinking it was much safer. Maybe a long time ago, it was safer. But in this age of technology, I'm almost certain hackers are much smarter and know how to get the info even if you do it that way.

Btw, Taluwen, I know that the addon itself is fine. I was worried that maybe the source got corrupted with a .exe or something (yes, I didn't check)
I have taken to heart using the authenticator, and started using on-screen keyboard (great tip there guys!)
I plan on re-installing myroleplay tonight. After careful, and repeated scans of the files!

Hehe. Nah, there's no exe files but never hurts to double check!Ognian wrote:Btw, Taluwen, I know that the addon itself is fine. I was worried that maybe the source got corrupted with a .exe or something (yes, I didn't check)
