I was just wondering what sorts of builds would be good to make a solid tanking pet for attempting WOTLK Heroic Achievement runs either Solo or Duo with another person. Since I managed to get The Incredible Hulk achievement today by myself I thought perhaps I could figure out a few more that might be solo'able or even do with a 2 or 3 man team and my Squee (Jadefang).
That's almost the same spec I use for my tanks! But since I use mine entirely for solo play or two-manning with my fiance, I don't bother putting points in Intervene or Roar Of Sacrifice, placing those points into Silverback instead. It may not seem like a lot of health, but it has helped saved my tank's bacon several times.
I use just about the same build also - but like Ijomi I use silverback. It truly is helpful especially if the damage taken by your pet is greater than what you can heal!
Is what I use as my Tanking Pet's build. I think Last Stand is a very strong talent, especially when paired with Cower's damage reduction, and if using a turtle/beetle, their shell shield.

The one extra point can go into Taunt for group tanking or into Lionhearted if it's just pet & you (you can FD), but this is the pet-tanking spec that goes for pure survivability.
There's no need for Intervene or RoS, really, if you're dumping aggro onto it properly. Silverback is also quite good, healing the pet for 2% hp each growl. It might not seem like a lot but it adds up, and I think it stacks with Blood of the Rhino (could be wrong).
Here is another thread on tanking pets: http://www.warcrafthuntersunion.com/201 ... -pet-spec/
I am going to respec a couple of my pets after maint. & try both builds, hoping the "threat" build will help me as that seems to be my most pressing issue atm, even after using md & fd while soloing with my tankin pets.

And that happened a LOT when we two-manned select Wrath heroics.
For tanking specs, I consider certain talents to be the essentials (the points in Serpent Swiftness are merely there to reach the next tiers of talents). The following specs are different spec ideas that I use in different capacities:
Given pets' natural resistances, I honestly find points in Great Resistance to be wasteful, personally. That, and I typically use a Gorilla when casters are involved. My Bouncer, bane of BG healers.
My gorilla actually uses the anti-caster spec. The points in Great Resistance are mainly there because I was running out of good options, and figured that Great Resistance would allow my pet to survive insane amounts of spell damage. Also keep in mind that I have no less than eight designated tanking pets in my stables (three of which are non-Tenacity), so I can afford to have a lot of 'specialist' specs.

Cute doesn't need an explanation.
