People with Rares

Unread post by Aussiehunter »

Has anyone else had the problem with people with the rare pets coming near you when waiting for it and call it out, kill something to act all innocent and not even loot it and fly away (to set your npcscan off)

ive had this happen 3 times today while flying over Madexx, Terrorpene and Sambas and heaps of other times.

if you people doing this are reading this, Stop or i will keep doing the same thing to you over and over.

Is aman'thul the only server with people doing this or is ther others?

Yup. Happened to me while camping King K. Granted, the guy just really liked his King K I guess, but it got kind of old the second and third time... Granted, I feel kinda bad if I am just happily bopping about with a rare (Like I wanted to take some screenies of my bug pack and squee spree but I couldn't in Uldum. Maybe Sillythus...).

Rares tend to bring out the very worst in people; though it can also bring out the best, on Moon Guard the worst seems to happen more. Had that happen on a camp of mine once personally; reported the guy to WoWJackass. ;)

I think the worst was getting griefed by a nonhunter after the bounty another hunter had placed on a tame, though.

Rares are fun, but Blizzard would do well to shorten the timers a tad. They're hardly promoting the community in that regard.

Let me give Runty a good home.

Only happened to me once, with Jadefang. They apparently wanted the mini-pet.

I hate when people do that. Unfortunately there are too many people out there who find pleasure in pissing off hunters when it comes to rare pets-- and then the fact that BC and WotLK had the achievements for killing certain rares doesn't help matters. People will eventually realize that there is no achievement for killing rares in Cata (so far... hopefully they don't add one unless it is of humanoids only haha) but that doesn't mean people will stop! :( I'm sorry for your rough day- hopefully you will get all the pets you want and more.

A word of caution: despite your frustration with other people doing it to you, two wrongs don't make a right (but three lefts do). I wouldn't lash out at anyone else over this, particularly because I believe the majority of the people in this community (active and lurker alike) do not go out of their way to kill rares and prevent other hunters from getting the pets they want.

Nailed it on the head. This kind of stuff has been going on since Blizzard first introduced tamable rares, and it's an unfortunate part of the game. However, it's also much better to be the bigger person in the end, keep camping until you get the pet that you want, and leave it be.

Not all hunters walk around with their rares out on purpose, some do. It's sad that some people will intentionally walk in front of you with the pet you want, however, I combat this by having SilverDragon as well as _NPCScan. SilverDragon does not cache mobs and can find the same rare over and over again so long as it can see the nameplate or you mouse over the rare.

Also, just as a note, if I spent a ton of time trying to tame a rare, you can bet I sure as hell am probably going to run around with that pet as I quest or whatnot. Does that mean I'm maliciously trying to screw up people on the hunt? No, I just feel that if I put in a lot of hours/work in for a pet, I find it a bit silly that I should have to shelve that pet, I'll just make sure to try and avoid spawn points with it.

i wasnt actualy going to do it, i dont have enough time and patience to do it and i usualy have better stuff to do in the day then bug other rare hunters.

also, if the hunters walk around doing quests, killing and looting and doing stuff like that im fine with it but when somone lands, whistles out their rare and kills something (eg scorpion) and mounts and flys away then i get peeved.

i can attest that this can happen innocently, there is definitely two sides to this. now someone swooping in near you to kill something and not loot (or the stealthed nelf) probably wears an ass for a hat, as mentioned. intentionally setting off your npcscan is grief, no way around it. intentionally setting it off, theres no excuse.

but i know me, i dont tame rares just so they can sit in my stable. i switch them out, i like using all my pets. and where i do dailies in TH, and Deepholm, I have been accused of doing this when it never dawned on me.

now, as a courtesy, i try not to use jadefang in deepholm or sambas in TH. i do that as a courtesy, not an obligation. i dont know if i can expect others to stop using pets they love though. it would be nice, again, as a courtesy. i just dont know if many would. theres one hunter on my realm that every time i see them, sambas is out. its their prize, and they like using it. and due to my guild makeup, i RARELY get to use a cat in groups. so dailies is bout the only time i get to use sambas.

but i found i had to clear my cache hourly when i was camping rares if i visited anywhere with people (like cities). that became as natural as switching pets, honestly. a bit of a pain but thats how the addon works, nothing much i can do there lol. one thing i do is never rely solely on npcscan or silverdragon for rare finding (this topic is partially the reason). i always make a target macro, and had i not done this, i would have missed sambas (npcscan had an odd build when i found sambas, gave him a false positive instead of a true positive, it was weird).

i remember when i first tamed Krush, he was my absolute favorite. I used him for all my dailies, which included the frenzyheart/oracle ones. i got a few /rudes over it, i wasnt griefing, i was playing with a pet i enjoyed while doing my dailies. thats not a crime, its not bad thing. I would take steps to minimize his out time, such as not be out during the oracle shinies quest, but the quest to kill a bunch of frenzyheart, i would have him out, and thats near a krush path. he was my only exotic at the time, and i liked him. im not going to go out of my way to intentionally grief, but if there is a day i want to use this pet, im sorry, im going to use it. there is a lot that can be done as a courtesy, but for me to expect/demand others put a pet they like away because im out to get it, thats as much griefing in my book as the guy that intentionally sets off your alarm. its give and take.

on the flip side, ive gotten angry whispers for having rares out in orgrimmar and tol barad, and to me, thats excessive. rare hunting and often cache clearing go hand in hand to me because i know im not going to be able to stop ass hattery or stop people from using pets they like just because they are in native zones. its unfortunate, there is no two ways about it.

I had this done to me several times, but once, by my own guildmate...
Was camping Skoll, and he was passing by. He saw me, stopped, pulled out his own Skoll, /wave, mounted up and flew away.
I know he's a moron, but to this day I'm not sure if he's just THAT stupid or does his stupidity comes with spite.

yeah I tamed rares so i can use them not so they can sit all day and I also try to avoid pulling one out in thier zone
soemtimes it happens it s not intentional I end up in a run pull out a pet then when the runs over end up back in a zone
if i have falsly set of anyones thing i apologise but i WILL not apologise for wanting to use the rares i camped/tamed

All I am going to say is if I am questing or farming I am going to have a pet out.

Just because someone flew down and dismounted and set your NPCScan off... doesn't mean every person that does this is doing it on purpose. Even if you only see them kill ONE thing... how do you know they weren't flying down to grab a herb/ore and something attacked them?

What did you do before getting a rare finding addon? Try to do that again... and I bet you'll see that at least having an addon that can be "broke" but easily fixed in a matter of minutes is still better.

Btw... get Silver Dragon too... I use it as a safety net just in case NPCScan has been set off Silver Dragon usually tells me if it targets another mob/pet.

So much of this. I also run around with a /tar macro as well just so I have all my bases covered. Or, as is more usual the case for me, I'm OCD and am constantly hovering over all of the little dots that pop up on my mini map. That was actually how I found Madexx.

My guildmate did this to me a few times when I was desperately searching for Loque, he camo'd and hid in a bush and moved his Loque out right on top of one of his spawn points! I wanted to kill him, he nearly gave me a heart attack!

On Ravencrest people don't usually do this though, and he was just messing with me since he knew I had been looking for months! Sorry people are griefing you though. :(

Happened to me with Jadefang. A belf came to me while I was camping (Im a draenei), called Jadefang and it set off my NPCScan, then called the minipet, laughed at me and left.

Just stay persistent with your hunt, don't rely too much on your addons and be the bigger person if you get griefed. :)

While it wasn't on purpose, I happened to have someone trigger my NPCscan recently as well. I was doing CoC (crucible) in Twilight HL, and one of my groupmates was a Hunter. She either recently tamed Sambas, or maybe had him for a while, but landed and unmounted, leading to my NPCscan going nuts. At first I was flipping, b/c I thought he was nearby, then I realized none of his spawns were close, and looked over to see the pet. Luckily, it's not really a cat I want (Much prefer my OW lion, Humar. :D), so I didn't really mind, but I made a joke to her, and we had a decent discussion about pets while we kicked the shit outta some gladiator behinds. xD

Meh, he was just showing off.

I WISH all of Cataclysm rare pets were like Jadefang and only spawned in one place... even if I had to wait weeks before actually getting them I wouldn't be flying around nonstop for days on end and hoping that I see a soon-to-be pet come into view.

You really don't need NPCScan for Jadefang unless you are not watching the screen at all times.. and even then just get Silver Dragon and put you mouse cursor where Jadefang spawns and it will let you know when the mouse hovers over him.

I would honestly name my kid "Ghost Crawler" if Blizzard implemented a static spawn color/time/point(s) for Madexx. I am not even lying.
