The first one is as the subject says I guess a lucky one.
Last week I had just read about the new "fire" turtle. (Terrorpene) My hunter who is one of my many alts had just dinged 82 and was questing in Hyjal. I had come so far in the questline that I was about to start doing quests in the area around the big pools of fire. As I was flying towards a point of interest for a quest, it occured to me that I had heard something about this new turtle. So I diverted my path abit and flew in over the lava pools. Literally 10 seconds after I got close...Bingo. There he was, a fiery turtle. I couldn't believe my luck. I even started to look around to see if he was a regular mob until I saw the name. I certainly didn't expect him to be around.
So as I drop close I recalled something I read about him doing alot of fire damage etc, and decided that my aspect of the wild will do. (Yea I know... /facepalm. Don't think fire equals nature damage.).
I quickly settle myself on a rock nearby and dropped an icetrap, even knowing that he would be immune, and started taming. WHOA, had I miscalculated the damage. As I saw the huge 10 ticks, my 47k health suddenly seemed irrelevant. But for some reason I must have resisted some of it because I died literally 1 second before the taming was completed. Frantically releasing and ghostrunning to my corpse I rezzed and went off to see where he went. Finding him a but further on I switched some gear around and got a whooping 49k health. (You have to understand my reasoning here, even though it was totally off. Since I almost got him the first time i thought 2k more health would do.) Boy, was I wrong.
This time I took the full ticks of his fire attacks and died barely halfway through the tame.
So once again.
- Ghost run - Rez - Eat up - Tame - Dead. (sigh)
After this third death and about 10 minutes since I first saw him I realized that I need to reconsider my approach. Expecting to see another hunter swoop in I started looking for a healer in general chat. Basically anyone with healing spells. (Another miscalculation). After a minute I found a questing shaman that hurried over. Trying to buy some time I told her to stay in whatever spec she was in, no resto needed. I just wanted a heal or two.
That was another of my many mistakes.
- find turtle - start taming - bam dead before the first healing spell went off - bam healer died as well.
New approach.
- Shammy respec to resto - find turtle - start taming - got heals - healer grabbed aggro - bam healer dead, hunter dead.
(sigh)
At this point I felt that I would waste the healers time, since I had so low total health that I acutally thought he couldn't heal through the intense damage. I died to quickly. But she persisted and we would try again.
To cut is short, after our 4-5th attempt I finally managed to finish the tame. And overall it had basically taken around 30 minutes to get it done.
So I guess I was not only lucky to find terrorpene but also lucky enough to have him for myself for over 30 minutes.
Anyways. The burning turtle is mine.

I'll shorten the next tame story I was thinking of. That is the day I tamed Loque.
Basically I had camped him on and off since wrath released and I heard there was a spirit cat in sholazar. I camped for weeks and never saw any trace of him or any of the other rares there. Not even a dead body. In the end I gave up. Then one evening a few months later I decided to just give it a shot again. I knew that I had logged out in one of the spawn places in basin. Literally 10 seconds after I log in, the NPC scan (which I had at that time) started blaring. At first I didn't understand what was happening, but suddenly I saw him. I couldn't believe it. So I did what most hunters would do at that point. I panicked.
- First dropped flight. (Of course from quite some height, luckily I survived the fall).
- Desperately looked for my frost trap on my bars. Couldn't find it. (Sudden blindness I guess)

- When I finally found it I dropped it at my feet then backed away a few steps. (You know where this is going...

- Started taming which resultet Loque doing his big jump, over my trap, and starts to hit me.
- Realizing my health couldn't cope with it, I FD.
- Get back up and during a few stressful seconds try to eat and pray.
- Next tame went according to plan.
The feeling I got when I saw him shrink as the tame finished, was amazing. I remember me trying to tell myself, as my heart raced, it is only a few pixels. But oh it is so much more when you have waited so long.

Oh I almost forgot. I don't think there was a coincidence that I found him when I did. It was around 23:45 on december 31 2009. Guess there weren't that many ppl online that close to the new year. ^^
