Darkonis whase assigned the black Gorilla
Image

As she herself had no need for one, she delegated the task to one of her younger silbings:

Meet Archis

Image

So our little huntress went to the Cape of Stranglehorn to find one black Gorilla

From here it was pretty much the standart "freeze n grab"

Image

And here she is taking her new friend to his annual bath

Image

I later named him Kronk

The black skin is rather easy on the eyes

The Gorilla handles pretty much like all tanacity pets. It's racial provides an additional interupt and can be left on autocast during solo PvE or random inis. For raids or PvP it should be taken under manual control.
The diet bread, fruit and fungus is unfortunatly not easy to optain in the wildernes and requires shopping from Vendors for a reliable supply.

Next one please

Char: Darkonis (Main)
Lvl: 85
Exotics: hell yes
restrictions no overcemped pets or those that require an group to get.

There are no boats from Lor'danel, and as far as I know I need to run through Stormwind to the docks there and take the boat to Rut'theran village and take the boat further from there.
Corpserunning through stormwind doesnt seem to work now anymore, does it? Last I tried I was ported back to the wrong graveyard.

But just you wait, I will not give up! :D
I used an elixir of water walking to go from Darkshore to Rut'theran, and jumped right on the boat without attracting any guards. You still get fatigue but you can go fast enough so that it doesn't kill you.
Thank you :) I actually haven't thought about that, and as my hunter is only 42 I don't have flying yet either. That would've made it so much easier, but hey, who doesn't like a nice little challenge. I'll see what the AH has to offer and then I'm off xD

@Zero: The gorilla's special ability is actually one that can be left on autocast all the time because they're the only interrupt pet that will actually use their interrupt ability when the enemy is actually casting a spell. :)
If you really wanted to, you could take it off auto and micro manage it to interrupt a specific spell, but I think for a basic BGer, leaving it on auto would serve you just fine.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. ^_^

Anywho, on to complete my challenge.

So, Kurasu's random pet was the yellow beetle. And I had just happened to do an AQ40 run with a friend, thus was in Silithus when I looked at the listing. So the nearest one is in Silithus? Handy! Thus, off to Hive'Zora.... where I soon realized that they were all underground, and not on the surface. HATE SO MUCH! .... but I finally managed to track my way down to one and snag it up.

Image

As you can see, he brought along a whole swarm of his friends while I was taming him, and he had to fend them all off. Fortunately, he won. My hero! A quick teleport out, some yummy Tundra Berries purchased from the Stormwind inn, and Goldiebug here was ready for showing off.

Image

I have to admit that I am quite impressed with the color. The picture leads one to believe it's a fairly bland 'yellow with blue-grey'. However, while there aren't a lot of nuances to the color, I did find it quite a lot more intense when up close. In addition, it was quite shiny. I'm not sure if the picture does it justice, but let's try:

Image

Rather like a crab, the movement on these leaves a pleasant and relaxing 'click click click' sound. As for their combat sound effects, they seem to share sound effects with the crabs. Soft sounds which I find relaxing and pleasant their own selves. And of course, they share the beetle attack of shoving its butt in the enemy's face.

Image

Now, I do have a beetle already. One of the gorgeous violet-red ones from Hall Of Origins. As it is one of the pets that I am considering releasing when it comes time to 'tidy things up', Goldie didn't get to stay long with me. After testing, I released him into the wilds of Twilight Highlands in order to resume his reign of terror on the locals. However, I can thoroughly state that as tank pets, beetles are some of the best. And for pure looks, they come in a wider variety of colors than turtles, and often much more dramatic.

Now that that's done, time to go catch Aloicious' pet and give it a run-through!
Come see Kurasu's stables!

I too really liked that screenshot. Although, my reaction wasn't a laugh but rather having "A Whole New World" start playing in my mind. That expression was one of gleeful curiosity.

My pet-of-the-day was a golden eagle from Loch Modan, and after leveling to 16, I set off to find one.

I must say, I liked the model a lot, the sounds and attack animations are fine, though the idle animation doesn't seem right for a bird... I mean, since when did eagles hover? Unfortunately, he used his idle hovering animation as his flight animation as well! He was fairly good for soloing, and I was able to down the mobs quickly without too much aggro. Aside from the flight/idle animation I liked him a lot, but I think I will say goodbye to "Hummingbird", as I decided to call him, soon.

Weird flying animation(Do all birds of prey do this? Do all eagles do this? Do all birds period do this? I'd tame an eagle in a heartbeat if there was one without the annoying running animation.) :

Image this time.

Nether rays are another one of those families that I kind of want, but never really got around to taming one.

A quick portal from Org to Blasted Lands, a flight through the Dark Portal and then to Zangarmarsh took Rufus (my Rak'Shiri) and I out to find one of these pretty green beasties.
Image

I actually quite like the appearance of these guys. They're very alienesque (I had trouble determining if the glowie things above their mouth are eyes >_>), and the colors of this guy are quite gorgeous next to my orc.
Image
Image
I love the yellow of their...eyes...and underbelly and the white with green and blue tints of the rest of their skin is very nice and very pretty. I named this handsome fellow Jetsam in keeping with Vitani's basic theme and set off to Org to see how his skin changed in different lighting. It does change depending on the lighting and looks beautiful in all settings. It's very shiny and shimmery.

This guy's animations are very cute. I love the little squish squish flap they do when idle and flying. When fighting, they do a basic bite motion, as well as smacking things with their tail. I tried to get a good screenie of it, but sadly none of them came out looking good. :(

These guys are quiet when idle (good if you dislike loud pets) and make this funny little squish-roar noise when they go in combat (I'm not sure how else to describe it).

Their special ability is a spell interrupt with a two second school silence on a 40 second cooldown. Leaving it on autocast unfortunately means that the nether ray will use it as it's opening ability and completely waste it. If you're into micro-managing pet abilities, I could totally seeing this being a very useful pet. They put out great damage and he even managed to hold aggro at 81 against 84 mobs without a MD.

I'm not a big fan of micro-managing because of my playstyle, and in a hectic BG, I'd rather have my pets' abilities be where I can set it and forget about it knowing the pet can use it intelligently. I'm not very good at PvP anyway and have trouble multi-tasking so I think if I got a pet for spellcasters, I'd probably get a gorilla or a pet with a cast slow ability.

Jetsam decided that he really liked Twilight Highlands and so we parted ways there by the riverside.

 Those are stunning! If you don't mind, I'd like to make avatar-sized pictures out of them, available for others to use.

Anyways, the ground-sweeping run animation is really unfortunate. Once the 'flying' pets were fixed (used to be that some pets could fly straight through the air), I've noticed that a lot with the birds that were affected by said hotfix. I may just have to start a thread, cataloging all the Birds of Prey (I'll check Carrion Birds as well, but I don't think they're having issues) that drag their tail feathers. Hopefully a bald eagle that has a normal run animation will be found :)

Sadly, I don't have one.
There's not many eel looking pets in the game and this guy seemed to kind of fit the bill. If I kept him I would go find something else (or another nether ray) to tame and name it Flotsam, but my stables are too full to keep around a pet I'll never use just for name value. :(

Mmkay! My challenge was to tame the Pink Tallstrider. I'd like to start off by stating my general distaste for these awkward birds. When I had signed up for this I put a restriction on a couple of pets, but not the Tallstrider for whatever reason. After doing this I've decided that all pet types deserve a little love!

After being assigned I ran right out to Mulgore to tame Mazzranache. On the flight there from Orgrimmar I had forgotten I had my Gorilla, Reagan, still out. Went to click the tame button and immediately broke out into a fit of laughter as I watched Reagan do what he does best; Smash..
Image
Mazz has her own little clutch that follows her around now and it was a little heartbreaking watching them run around frantically as I slew their mother! D: I decided to kill them off also. Cruel, I know. But how were they going to survive on their own without Mama Mazz? The funny thing was that they took much longer to despawn than Mazz had >.<

So, because I was dead set on taming this rare I stuck around and waited for the respawn. Mazzranache has quite a long spawn timer for such a low level rare. When I tamed Shadowclaw on this same Hunter I waited around for only fifteen minutes before he respawned after arriving to find him dead. Mazz took at least an hour! Thankfully, he popped up just before I was called in to raid. For anyone who may be looking for this rascal in the future, the wowhead coordinates are almost dead on and he patrols in a circle around one of the wells. You'll see it on your map easily.
Image

A funny thing happened while I was taming her. Now, remember how I said the chicks ran around like crazy when I killed her? They just kept on their usual patrol even after I had finished the tame! It was pretty funny to see.
Image
Like I said, I'm not a huge fan of Tallstrider. I had tamed the Strider Clutchmother awhile back and named it Kevin just because of my love of Up! This strider is actually really pretty. The pink really pops, especially with the plume of black feathers trailing down its back. This pet looks great next to Ero. It has a really simple idle animation, which I also like. Don't care much for creatures that twitch all around my screen. It's also worth it to say that Striders are easy to feed. You can generally find all the foods in its diet off of Humanoid creatures, or buy it cheap off of any vendor. Oh yeah! I named her Challenger, for the sake of this thread!

I was called off to Obsidian Sanctum literally seconds after the tame. Normally I'd raid with my ever faithful Hyena, Grim. But this was a perfect chance to just play around with this pet! It was super fun to watch a strider run in, guns blazing to attack a group of dragonkin and make it out of it in one piece. I can't honestly say if there was any solid damage. Things were dying before I could get even a couple shots off!
Image

I do believe I'll be keeping Challenger and release Kevin and I'll also be dragging her off to some dungeons!
Is it just me or do you not see a lot of Hunters walking around with this funky little guys?

Again again!

Aloicious' pet was the red boar. I already have a boar in my stack (a lovely little yellow one courtesy of the Night Elves), but figured that it couldn't hurt to make sure I get the appropriate boar. A scan over the list revealed that there were boars all over the place! Most of them in really easy places to get, and thus it shouldn't be too bad to fetch. So where did I choose to grab it?

The boar in the troll newbie lands, of course. Where else? After all, this *is* Aloicious we're talking about here!

Image

They're so cute when they're small!

I took a flight out to The Barrens in order to get a better photograph of his color, since the darkness that is Dustwallow (my hearth location) at night still washed it out rather badly.

Image

Now, as usual, color is my first thought. And my first thought here is: I quite like it. A rusty red, with some yellow tinting, dark striping, and a little black on feet and in mane. Unfortunately, up close the 'old pixelation' of the mane's dark spots can be seen all too clearly, making it look stiff and artificial. That's a real pity, because the color itself I just love.

Image

After the photo opportunities, I named the little guy 'Red' (sometimes the simple ones are the ones that stick) and got back to work leveling. And into frantic giggle attacks at the delightful boar 'war cry' as he dashed toward the enemies. "*grunt*, SQUEEEEEEE!" It's a very 'happy-maker' sound. Aggro-holding wasn't an issue, though there is a big problem with his special ability. Namely the fact that I have no bleed abilities, and thus no need for an ability that increases bleed damage. Particularly when I already have one in my other little boar.

Presently, with Red and my other, presently unnamed yellow boar, I believe there will have to be a face-off. And with the yellow boar being my representitive from the Night Elf lands, I have a pretty fair idea which of the pair is likely to win. Still, Red made me look at that shade of boar a lot differently!
Come see Kurasu's stables!

Sorry for going off-topic like this, but I did some cropping (and sloppy editing to take care of that annoying -25), and have results!

Image Image Image

I did a gazillion resizings of the eagle silhouette, since I couldn't decide upon how much background to have! Each file that I've attached should fit the parameters for avatars here on Petopia. If you want to, by all means use one; that's why I went to all this work!

Also included a couple larger pics of the flying eagle, in case anyone has something in mind for a signature.

Again no screenshots. I took them this time, they just weren't particularly great.

I had the green catacrab:

Image

Easy enough to find - travel to Orgrimmar, take the portal to Blasted Lands and fly off to the coast.

The first thing I noticed were the animations - they're the same as the shale spiders. Or rather, the shale spiders are the same as the crabs: I checked later with a vanilla crab (my starter crab, Stupidface) and they're identical. I leveled 1-10 with the starter crab and never noticed it. Shows how much I usually pay attention to these things

The swimming animation is quite nice and realistic, in my opinion - the crab will use both its legs and its pincers to push forward in the water. Looks very smooth and natural.

As for the model... it tames quite large, at least by goblin standards. It was almost as tall as I am, although that might be an impression helped by the large spikes on its head. It's a nice, forest-y green - blends in quite well in grassy areas, such as Nagrand. And it's quite ugly, actually, in a cute, endearing sort of way. I'd never tamed one of these before (with the exception of Ghostcrawler, but he's all transparent and stuff). They look old to me - probably because of the spikes around the mouth. Kind of like old, wise, annoyed sages, all :| at being constantly sent into battle by clueless young whippernsappers. (Whereas the vanilla crabs, to me, look like they're always saying, "butbutbut... butbutbut... why me?" - although that might be an impression I get just from looking at Stupidface and pondering abandoning him, but feeling too guilty to.)

I specced the critter for pure tanking and went to kill a few things around my level to test the aggro-holding. It's as good as your average tenacity pet, if you take the family special off of autocast. If you don't, it'll channel Pin first thing rather than building threat, and if you haven't killed your enemy by the time the channel's over it'll come over and eat your face. (The enemy, not the crab.)

This is annoying. I don't mind tenacity pets with non-survival family specials (I love my green catacroc as much as I love my beetles and turtles), but I'd like to at least be able to use the damn special rather than take it off autocast and forget it exists. Mind you, I don't PVP, so I don't know if the skill might be more useful there.

In the end, I let this one go. I already have one crab I don't want to abandon but never use due to the special being godawful, I don't need a second one. If it had a more useful special, I might've kept it, though - I liked how it looked with my character.

When I got the Brown Condor, I honestly was very saddened. Despite my lower level I was hoping for something a little more odd and hard to track down, but isn't that how most of these turn out? You never think you'll like it then it grows on you?

Brown Condor
Tracking down the vulture was not difficult, there in a pretty congested spot
in Red Ridge. They fly overhead and the only trick was really getting in range
of one so you don’t have to shoot it down and potentially kill it.
Image

Finally finding a ledge that worked well and aloud for a nice screenshot,
I tamed the carrion bird.
Image

I used to think that their wings looked a bit floppy… But I'm just OCD.
It eventually grew on me, the wing animation is nice and fluid.
Image

One thing that jumped out to me was the golden feathers on the back.
I always thought of them as a filthy white.
But in the game they hold a much richer hue in many areas.
The flow of gold to brown to white tipped feathers was nice.
Image

As with any new tame the first instinct is to find food for them to eat.
Just nearby there was a dead fox in the road from some quester, but sadly
the vulture was too young to understand the concept of eating a carcass yet,
and has to be hand fed.
Image

Don’t worry though; these birds will eat any kind of meat and thus
are easy to feed. And by any kind of meat? It means he even ate this happily.
Image

Zerö was just as shocked as I.
Nonetheless I named him Scavenger due to the discovery.
Image

In combat I took it to the plague lands, where it was both a good level for me,
and fit well with the animal. Upon first attack command, he made a loud 'Skraaak'.
But it wasn't that bothersome...
Image

The second sound?... not so much… Demoralizing screech, while it did help,
was pretty loud and could become obnoxious if it was spammed. However it has an
'ok' timer on it to avoid this, but could be abrasive to some.
It also applied a nifty purple swirl on use.
Image

Overall agro wasn't kept too well, but I am also a fool that spams every button
before the pet even gets there, so that’s not Scavenger's fault. The few times I let
him get the first swing he did quite well.
Image

While questing this ugly 'fear nobody' bird got feared and actually made a cry
in terror. I do not know if this was the bird, or the fear itself actually used a
scared bird sound that matched perfectly, all I know is it added more character

Swimming he does the same animations at the same speed, no slowing down for him.

Overall he is a good pet if you like carrion birds, and holds a nice rich color.
Subtle sounds, ((ignoring Demo)) not too flappy, and eats well. While I don’t know
if I'll keep him forever, I do know he will have a home in my stables
for as long as I have room.

I quite enjoyed doing this review, and likely used far too many pictures than was deemed necessary, but I had a lot of fun, and if aloud would love to do another.

Nice Pictures Zercon.
btw if they charge (talent) they get a chance to knockback there target. My own white condor (FockeWulf) can attest to that.
