Mistake? Glitch? Or Deep Dark Conspiracy?

I don't really think that Blizzard has it out for hunters. Well, besides the beautiful pets I can't tame and the lower DPS of Beastmaster. But I digress.

I've been dealing with an oddity today and it's really frustrating. I'm wondering if I'm overlooking something or there's anything I can do. I ran a few dungeons, and got a couple nice drops. These: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=27936

I'm level 65 right now. I know I'm a little low for the greaves. I asked the group and they said I could need them, though. The chestgaurd should have been no problem. The thing is, I couldn't need either of them. I double check the stats and what it is. Stamina, intellect, attack power, crit strike rating- all good hunter stats, right?

I know I'm a bit new to the game, and this is my first hunter. I could have made a mistake. But even in the Need Before Greed system, I should have been able to get those. Unless I'm missing something. Does anyone have any idea? I had to Greed both and I didn't get them. To add insult to injury, the person who won them both times left before they won so the loot just sat there. I kept checking the loot in vain hoping it might default to me. Strangely, it was red, indicating something I couldn't use.

Am I being noobish again or is this worth taking up with someone? I'm scared to go in dungeons now because it seems like I can't get loot anymore. Well, okay. I get a gazillion cloth pieces from Greed rolls when I go through. Maybe I should become a mage.

Sorry for the long post. I'd appreciate any advice. Keep on with the hunt!

That's weird...I've never had that problem before. The only thing I can think of is that maybe you didn't train the use of mail on your hunter? It doesn't default change you to using mail at 40..but if you're 65 you had to have been using mail for a while, right?

Yep, I'm decked out in mail. I've been steadily gaining mail pieces from dungeons, which is why I can't understand why I can't anymore. I've put a ticket in for a GM in vain hopes it'll be resolved. In the meantime... -puts on some Crystal Method-

It sounds like a glitch to me. If you have the details (day and time should do it) of the two dungeons, I'd say to open a ticket. It's possible the GM would be able to retrieve the loot for you. You'd also want to see if it's something you can fix, so that it won't happen again.

If what you're experiencing is being unable to Need on items that your character can equip and use and is a proper armor type for your class, then it's a known issue. Happens to cloth-wearing classes with trinkets quite a bit, if I recall.

Although they know about it, I have no idea when or how Blizz plans to fix it, though.

The pants you could not use till 68 but the chest is 2 levels below your level.

Yeah but it's still better than what I have. I hope they don't make it so you can only Need stuff spot on your level! As far as the one above my level, I can see why they'd prevent me from Needing that, but again, I talked to the group and they said it was okay.

I hope you're right, Sarayana. I'm a little nervous about the fact that there wasn't maintenance today but I can still hope for a good resolution. /crosses fingers

On a side note, I like being a hunter in a dungeon a lot more than a Death Knight in a dungeon. I'm almost always the only one, so getting gear isn't a problem. With my Death Knight, I was competing with the tank, and any warriors or Death Knights. You also rarely get feared.

No, they haven't and they won't. A blue will always have a better stats budget than a green, so it's always possible to have an upgrade be below your level. They are fully aware of that, so they'd never put that restriction in.

Just be patient and see what the GMs say. Alternatively, run more dungeons... as you're leveling, gear will fall from the sky through quests and dungeon runs, and in three levels you'll get something better. I really hardly ever sweat gear while leveling, and it always makes me wonder when I see gear drama at lower levels. Why would you ninja something you'll be replacing soon? You know?

Anyway, don't let me derail the thread (seems I'm good at that... lol!)

Is it called ninjaing if you actually do need it? I thought that was the point. I'm just worried I won't be able to get the gear I need at all. Some items are a rare drop, and if I don't get the chance to Need it for myself, it's just random chance and may be vendored.

I'm also having some performance anxiety so I might be focusing a bit too much on the gear. I feel my DPS is subpar and I'm the weak link in groups despite how much I work on crowd control.

Being DPS, it may take all day to successfully run four dungeons. Considering it may take over 15 runs of a dungeon for the piece I want to even drop, if I don't get a chance to Need on the right gear I may be working weeks on a single improvement. I try not to stress too much and I will hold off on Needing if someone else higher level needs it more, but I do want a chance.

It's your right to need on useful things, regardless if you can equip them right away or not. Take for example around level 35-45. Useful Mail should start dropping at about this level. Need on it. Even if it's a few levels ahead.

Nah, I was talking about that DK in Ramps the other night that needed on spell power plate because it was supposedly an upgrade, even though the holy pally wanted it... *rolls eyes*

If it's an upgrade for you (even if you can't equip it just yet) and it's appropriate for your class and spec, then go for it. That's not ninjaing.

I'm happy to say there was resolution and I got both of the items I wasn't able to loot. That surprised me, because I was sure Blizz never gave out loot after the fact. Anyway, hopefully that glitch never happens again and my only problem with loot form now on is it not dropping when I want it to! Thanks for the replies.

Good to hear! I actually figured it was just a matter of finding a GM that wasn't too lazy to look back through the logs, cause it definitely sounded like a glitch to me. I'm glad the GM you got for the ticket was so helpful! And congrats on the gear upgrades.
