I know that, but as with the wolf, he will scratch or sniff the ground, but he will also just stand there. With a cat he will stretch and yawn or look side to side, and then go back to standing there. On the Gorilla, it seems they are constantly beating their chest or scratching their rears-there is little or no pause were you can just look at their model to study them.TygerDarkstorm wrote:It's called an "idle animation" because it's something they do when you're just standing around, it doesn't mean that they just stand there doing little to nothing.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
I decided to grab the one from TB since it is easy to find even with people killing them for the quest...I was kinda wrong with that at the moment though...

As you can see it says Alliance controlled and I never would have thought they would take it from us at this one time I tried to do this. It took me a good bit of time trying to pry one away from the alliance peeps doin their daily, that they haven't had in almost a week mind you, but I managed to snag him when the coast was clear.

I wasn't sure what to name him and nothing would come to me that sounded great so I sat there for a minute deciding. Finally a name came to me like it usually does and that's what I finally went with. The names aren't usually the greatest but meh I like it.

Swim animation is interesting. I tried to take a shot of it but they just use their tail as propulsion, swishing it back and forth while not moving their feet at all. Pretty fun to watch.
I decided to take him out for some dailies and man was he great! Few things about them: They like meat and fish for food, their ability reduces movement speed on the target by 50% for 6 sec on a 10 sec cooldown. I tend to grab aggro off my pet a lot and I found this to be wonderful especially on a tenacity pet. If his ability wasn't up I could Concussive shot the mob and be fine. Their sounds are also very Crocodile like, hisses and growls when sent to attack and loud chomps and bites while attacking. About the only thing I didn't like about them is their run animation. It's almost looks like their body is breaking in half while going back and forth.
I quite like the color scheme on this one also, it seems to match my undead well. I think I'll be keeping him around as I've grown quite fond of him at this point. I highly recommend one as a tanking pet.

I haven't gotten to my other hunter yet. Will probably work on that tonight or tomorrow when i get time. Expect a report though as I've been wanting to play around with a raptor for awhile just like the crocs.

Kormai: I guess the lesson would be... ...that you want to make it as hard as possible for me to tame stuff? (just kidding, no offence, it's actually kind of fun to run around, being chased by lvl ???
)
And I'll get to taming that snake soon, just gotta level up a bit!

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
Alrighty, so here's my report on the Tan Bat model.

To make the challenge more interesting I chose to go after the Shadowbat from Karazhan.

Since I'm lazy and still haven't bothered to complete the questchain for the key, I simply flew up and dropped from my mount to die on the doorsteps. Much easier than before when you'd usually have to aggro a bunch of the ghosts and stand there while they slowly knocked off your health. x)

A quick run to my corpse later...

I slipped through the bars...

Rezzed on the other side...

And was in! I made my way to the room off to the side and Camouflaged. I tiptoed around the spider mobs and made my way to the bat area.

There was a group of them just through a doorway, but there was a single mob that would occassionally patrol out. That was the bat I was after.

I dropped my freezing trap and waited for him to venture back out.

He flew right into the trap...

And the tame completed with ease.

Bat acquired!

Let's get the bad stuff over with. One of the worst texturing details is on the bat wings, at the tip of their claws. They resemble a poorly enlarged jpeg image, full of pixelly goodness. >< It's very obvious once you're aware of it, though at least the constant wing movement makes it easier to ignore.

At a glance I suppose they don't look too bad. I was actually surprised how much I liked the colour scheme of this model in particular. Usually I would say my favourite would be the dark ones with the blood red wings, but this guy looked pretty nice.

Next pet peeve....the damn holes through the wings! Argh these annoy me so much, and are one of the major reasons I can't stand having a bat pet. They're just so obvious and horrible looking. =(

I'll admit I think the face could be kind of cute (in that ugly-cute sort of way).

Though the large fangs seem to be growing out of the cheek rather than inside the mouth.

The body is very bizarrely proportioned. The back legs fold into each other during the idle flapping. The feet also seem to bend whichever way they want to.

I decided to take my new friend out for some fight practice against some mobs.

He held his own pretty well, and I was surprised by aggro management. I never pulled off of him. He was definitely a bit 'flimsy' though. If I left him on his own too long his health would rapidly decrease. The stun was pretty handy however, even for PvE. It could be manually cast to interrupt an enemy spell, or just left on auto if you want occasional brief reprieves while fighting.

There was one moment that really took me by surprise. My bat was clever! At one point we were fighting these dragon mobs who would occasionally cast this pillar of fire in front of them on their target. There would be a moment's notice in the form of a rune circle on the ground where the fire was about to appear. As my bat was solo-fighting against one of these dragons, they cast the rune circle and suddenly the bat moved away so that he was not in the fire and continued fighting without any interference from me at all. I was stunned. He didn't exhibit this again after, but that one brief moment was really surprising.

In any case, I certainly didn't hate the bat, but until they have a bit of an update I can't see myself being able to own one permanently.
I wish I could, because I love bats, and I think one would be a great pet for Veph, but they just have too many issues right now that would irk at me.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
So i got the red devilsaur.. and well first off i had NO luck finding one in ungoro... SO i went for the king in northrend. I went after king dred. I camoed my way to him killed a few mobs and this is how it went:
I finally got to him and tamed him, he then turned on raptors who aggroed onto me

we went on to kill the last boss and enojoy our kill ( he tried taking a bone xD )

We then decided to chill in org, i even came up with a outfit for him, his name is Zatarra

and then we were in a bg owning some faces off

So all in all i love devilsaurs! they are a great pet they do wonderful in bgs and in PvE. I have king krush ( HER name is DuilwenShanu) so i have done questing with devilsaurs and they are def. a pet to get when you can and give them a shot! i love them a recommend them to any BM hunter who can tame them, SO
Devilsaurs

DPS: Good
PvP: Good
Model: in my opinion very nice, big bold scarey but sweet ( kinda like im nice but dont mess with my master)

I'll probably start tonight, may or may not post, we'll see. Knowing myself, I'll probably hold off til tomorrow before I go to work so I can get a good report up. ^_^

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
The brown scorpid. Another one of those in the newbie zones! .... which is the one I actually presently have. That's why I'm doing Aloicious' report before I do Kurasu's report this time: because it's already there and on-hand.
This is Timothy:

Timothy is one of the Scorpid Workers from the orc newbie lands, and he is a 'brown' scorpid. I put that word in quotes, because honestly the color of them, I discovered to my great surprise, is anything but a basic brown. It's a creamy beige, with some black spotting and light blue accents. It's an amazingly complex color.

But my favorite part of Timothy is actually the coloring in between the chitin. It's not something you can see from the front, so you'll never notice it when they're attacking you. However, once tamed, from behind, you get to see this:

I'm not sure the picture does it justice: the light blue is a very subtle shimmering color, looking almost iridescent with the 'shine' effect of the shell. Really, it's absolutely a *gorgeous* color. It really deepens the entire effect of the model.
Now, in the realm of 'useful abilities', the scorpid ability is very much one that I've come to love: disarming. While its real usefulness shows in PvP, in PvE, a humanoid without its weapon is extremely lowered in damage, and often can't perform a lot of the special abilities. This *really* does a number on their attack. Something that people don't mention is that this ability is used intelligently. I have had Timothy tanking beasts, had a humanoid run in, and without turning his attention from the critters that I'd told him to focus on, Timothy will use the disarm on that new attacker.
As a tenacity pet, Timothy is both good at holding aggro (although not as good as when he gets Guard Dog; he's still low level!) and taking the hits. He's specced for being a full-on tank, and I've never regretted it! He's one of those pets that I've really bonded with on Aloicious. They're a really under-appreciated mob skin.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
My new challenge was the orange spotted cat: http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/tigerskinyellow.html This skin is found on cats all over in the Badlands as well as on the rare spawn Dishu in the Barrens. I headed for the Badlands and nabbed a Ridge Stalker Patriarch.
We all know what cats are like, they do great DPS and have two awesome special abilities, Prowl and Roar of Courage. I do really like this skin however and have always wanted this cat since back when they were only found in Swamp of Sorrows (I believe). They look just like the druid travel form, yellow with black spots and markings.
We did a little archaeology but he wasn't interested.
The only problem I have with cats is their yawning idle animation because they do it ALL THE TIME and it drives me nuts! Otherwise cats make awesome pets. Now I just have to decide if I want to keep this guy or my orange tiger, because I don't need 3 cats and I'm not giving up my red lynx!
Again, again! Tydarus, lvl 64, almost 65, no exotics yet and no monkeys

@Tydarus: Try taming a Dreadsaber from Sholazar Basin once you get there. Same skin, different model. It won't do anything about the incessant yawning, but that can't be helped really.
@Kormai: Glad I have the flypoint at Honor's Stand already (that was a challenging corpserun, having to deal with the funky rules on Nesingwary). Stupid me neglected to swing by Ratchet, so it won't be a total cakewalk.
I may be able to do this tonight, but no promises. Thanks again!

Wanted to update. Matti went out and tamed a brown tallstrider and ended up loving that bird. I refused to name him at first, but then he grew on me so much that he became Scaffold. I'll do a complete report later on.
