Pet Abuse: Why did Blizzard make me do this? :(

I'm sorry Loque'nahak! I would much rather have tamed you than killed you. I saw him dead around 4:30 AM on Friday so decided I'd get up at 4:00 AM on Monday to test my luck--and there he was (killed at 4:33 AM). Coincidentally, he was in the exact same spot each time (/way Sholazar 65.94 78.69). Maybe I'll switch my off-spec to BM and see if he's around 4:00 AM on Tuesday for a tame.

In my defense, I've been working on "Frostbitten" for the past two weeks. He was one of the last three I needed--the other two being Zul'Drak Sentinel and Aotona. It'll be difficult killing Aotona too. Why does Blizzard force hunter achievement whores to kill desired pets? :( I hope if they decide to make a Cataclysm Rare achievement they won't include Madexx, Terrorpene, Sambas, Jadefang, Karoma, or Ghostcrawler but you know they likely will. Makes me want to join a PETHP Group--People for the Ethical Treatment of Hunter Pets.

I feel your pain. I am one rare away from frostbitten....and that rare is King Krush. I hated killing the other two as well and killing KK...heartbreaking. But...My name is Teigan and I am an achievement addict.

I personally could never allow myself to kill any of them, despite how much I like to have shiny achievements.
I came close the second time Varethyn found Loque'nahak, then my Guild Master said he'd like him on his hunter alt. Also the third time, but by then my little brother's hunter was high enough to tame Loque too, so he did. Finally when Loque found Kwillix, my heart was breaking because I'd been set on getting Ghostcrawler instead, but tamed him anyway. I'd even freaked out when I'd accidentally hit serpent sting instead of my FRAPS keybind.
Jadefang is possibly the only rare pet I might kill, for the mini-pet. But even that will hurt.
Being a hunter who loves rare pets really brings out a new kind of appreciation for these beasts.

I didn't think of that. I did check to see if there was anyone else in Sholazar (mostly to gauge my competition) however I suppose I could have invited guildies to group so they could share the kill. How far is the range on rare kill shares? I noticed one time, in a raid, I had killed the rare spawn Rhino while flying to a Malygos raid and a few in the raid group mentioned getting the Northrend rare spawn kill achievement.

I am quite fond of rare pets myself--I have Sambas and Terrorpene--but I suppose when it comes down to it I'm more of an achievement driven hunter than pet-skin driven. If I were BM I'd probably get into the "gotta catch 'em all" kind of attitude however, being SV, the majority of the "rare" pets seem to be non-unique skinned or have what I would consider a bland appearance. I am excited about the "Olm the Wise" rare spawn skin--though I'd likely never use it due to it being cunning with a more PvP-based pet special.

On that note, I'd really enjoy a nice looking Wolf rare skin. I'm using Oil-Stained at the moment, which is amazing, but not really a rare (few people use it due to ignorance on how to get I presume). Blizzard should keep the Terrorpene fiery theme and use it on wolf, cat, fox, and raptor in my opinion.

Not sure about the range. I think it's pretty big for both Northrend AND Outland, considering we killed a Netherstorm rare once and ALL of us got it. We werent all in the same zone, we were off to do The Eye btw.

I'm pretty sure you can get it while in Sholazar or Icecrown, but maybe not as far as Howling Fjord

What I'd do is have a friend who will park his char in Sholazar, and me to do the searching. When I see Loque, have the friend login, you fly off, they kill, you get credit, and you don't feel as bad as personally killing. Plus you'd be helping a friend?

Saddens me to see him dead, he was my dream pet always, though got him now. But you had to do what you had to do, so its alright.

Sadly, this is why I cant do the achievement....I cant bring myself to kill any of the tameables....

Terror Spinner is an exception....XD But Loque, Aotona, and Krush? No way....

Yeah, exactly. :/ No one cares about them. People could care less if you have it....

How I got my Loque and Krush kill was by jerks coming along and killing them mid tame. Aotona was holding for a friend while she got there and a rogue jumped and killed it while it was tapped n trapped. I would do the group thing though, it seems sound and I can also say that the range is pretty decent. Not omg wow but it's good. (We had killed the mammoth north of Wyrmrest and a few guildies dinged the achievement)

if this will comfort you - if i met Loque myself i would've killed him straight away!!! for NOT SHOWING UP for my second hunter for 3 month! if you ask me - he's deserved it!;p

It's hardly 'pet abuse' since it's not your pet and an untamed mob. ;P

He'll respawn and make some hunter very happy, but if you see him, just kill him. If you want the acheivement, do what you have to do to get it. I don't think anyone here is going to hate you for it, and there's no Angry Fist of Har'Koa that slams down if you kill him - I'd be flat by now if that were the case.

He's just a cat, it's okay. <3

Awww I had to kill my first rare a few weeks ago Jadefang..because my hunter just had to have her baby mini pet..I felt bad..sad even that I had to kill her. I killed her quick looted her, and left..poor thing..my comfort was a week before I tamed her.

I can't kill rares..I can't do the frostbitten achievement..I felt sad killing one shale spider.. But that's me..

I got loque when someone came along and killed the one I had tagged and frozen, though luckily I hadn't had any luck finding a potential home for him when he was killed. Krush... I admit I killed in a fit of frustration when he refused my taming attempts seven times in a row.

I'm not sure I'll be able to kill Aotona, assuming I ever see her. It's not like I want her for a pet, but... you know how it is.

i have 11k achievement points on my main achieving character (thrawna on zul'jin for the curious and such) and despite having started frostbitten the FIRST WEEK wrath was out, i still have to kill loque and krush for my achievement. i just always have people on my friend list who really want the tames.

but if you find them and decide to kill them, i suggest making a raid group to do it. many rares i have killed have been with groups of around 8 people, and i had even more than that to kill aotona. everyone in the raid gets credit if they are there when the creature dies, and you have that many less people who will be looking to kill it in the future.

I'm an achievement whore as well. While it may be hard for me to camp and kill these guys, I have already tamed every pet I wish to. The only thing that would be hard now is knowing how long I camped them, how hard it was to see them dead, and knowing another hunter might be camping them as well. I might have to do a bad thing and just not /who to see who is around before I kill any of them. What they don't know won't hurt em! D: I'm a ninja killer...swoop in, do the dirty deed, gtfo.
