Camo Warning Macro

Unread post by Acherontia »

Some of you might remember me looking for an addon that would play a sound when Camo was about to run out, and having no luck with the usual suspects (Power Auras etc) due to the dual-nature of Camo's buffs, even when using Spell IDs. I found a brilliantly simple macro workaround that I wanted to share. Just replace your Camouflage spell with the following macro!

#showtooltip Camouflage
/cast Camouflage
/in 55 /script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Spells\\Shaman_FeralSpiritImpact.ogg")

This will play a sound 55 seconds after you cast Camo, thus 5 seconds before it comes off cooldown/runs out, depending on whether it's still active of course. The sound I chose was the wolf howl of a shaman's Feral Spirit, but you could find all of the sounds in WoW and choose your own if you download this file and have a look through the notepad list.

Ooh, awesome find, but I can't get it to work. D: I've copied the macro exactly, and then I tried replacing .ogg with .wav since I couldn't get the script soundfile to play unless it ended in .wav, but using it in the full macro still won't produce a sound effect. Hmm.

Is it only on 3 lines, exactly as typed? The /script is in-line with the /in 55 :) It SHOULD play as an .ogg, as that's the original sound file type in the WoW folder, but I'm not sure why the macro overall wouldn't work regardless : /

It probably doesn't work because you don't have an addon that uses the /in command. Some older ace addons had /in build into the addon, otherwise you can download an addon like this: http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/i ... hInin.html

Keep the sound file as .ogg though. Blizzard changed all sound files to that format in 4.0.1 so .wav will not work.

Many addons have provided this feature -- so many that some users assume it's a built-in command.
Many apologies, I genuinely fell into this trap o.O A list of my addons, one of them must be providing it:

Aha, that must be it. ^^

I tried the .wav since testing the sound file on its own [/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Spells\\Shaman_FeralSpiritImpact.ogg")] produced nothing, but using [/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Spells\\Shaman_FeralSpiritImpact.wav")] played the sound effect for me.

Hrm, this isn't working for me either, even with the /in addon Wassa linked. Testing played both the .ogg and .wav files, though. Strange!

Totally not on topic ... but is .ogg Ogg Vorbis? I was an audio major and a bunch of us used that in college whenever we were forced to compress files, in protest to how terrible the mpeg algorithms were, but I lost it with some major PC crash or another and hadn't thought about it in years.

Yes. The main site is still http://www.xiph.org/, where you can get encoders and decoders and stuff.

Oh yeah, I should update - since I downloaded the addon Wassa linked and did a full WoW restart, this has worked for me. Thank you both! :D

PowerAuras actually works well for this if you want to use it. The key is to use the field that checks what is in the spell's tooltip before displaying the aura. My export is below:

Version:4.16; InvertAuraBelow:12; b:0; icon:ability_hunter_camouflage; buffname:Camouflage; r:0.3059; begin:1; texture:4; isResting:0; inVehicle:0; sound:23; tooltipCheck:Untargetable by ranged attack; size:1.7; ismounted:0; timer.h:1.93; timer.enabled:true; timer.Relative:TOP; timer.Transparent:true

That should display the aura with a timer and play a sound when there are 12 seconds until Camo (the one we care about) will expire.

Took me a little while to figure this out, so I hope it helps some people.
