You need to watch that, then you can understand that it is the...... SPOREBAT!!!!!

O_o

(It all really depends on what your raid is made up of. And sorry I couldn't resist, someone shared that vid before and I still cackle every time I see it. XD

To be clear, there isn't one. All depends on raid makeup.

And if I had to pick one, I'd pick a Spirit Beast (sorry..) as the self-heal is unique and might allow your healers some breathing room. Every other buff could be brought by another class.

If you want the best self-buff, cat or wolf, for non exotics.

Malazee's Pet Usage Flowchart and Ability Spreadsheet thread should help you determine which pet you need to bring and will be the "best" one for your raid.

Answer: Deathwing!
Slickrock wrote:To be clear, there isn't one. All depends on raid makeup.
OK, this is the actual answer, since they made Deathwing untamable. No pet has a special ability providing a buff or debuff that stacks with like abilities provided by other classes in a raid. If your raid has every buff & debuff covered that you could cover with one of your pets, and your group has enough interrupts for boss fights, then there really is no best raiding pet. At that point, it's a question of Ferocity or Cunning, since all the pet classes are equal. Well, cats still have Prowl, and spirit beasts have Spirit Walk, which is a 25% damage increase on their first attack...

Side-comment: This was a design goal for Cataclysm, actually. The developers wanted there to be no #1 DPS pet that everyone had to rid with. It's the reason why pet buffs and debuffs from special abilities don't stack, and why special attacks don't deal damage (Froststorm Breath and Burrow Attack are technically exotic abilities, and they're channeled AoE attacks anyways).

I'm currently using Humar. Might not mean much, but I've compared his damage to my other pets and he does the most (I'm Surv so exotic's aren't an option for me.) I'm happy with my 12-18k single target deeps. :hugs Humar:

Sorry, couldn't resist the reminder of the video. I stand at the stable master and see what the make up of the raid is and pull pets to compliment the raid that isnt covered.
Crit buff
damage buff

This thread really has made me chuckle, seeing how down I am at the moment that's really an achievement. Most well built raids cover all the buffs leaving you free to bring any pet you like. However, I would recommend talenting the pet for DPS if it's a cunning or even a tank pet.

Sporebats...once they get buffz0red x)

Can't wait tehe!

On the other hand, wolves do it for me. Using Luna (ghost worg) atm on one hunter, and Ironjaw on another. Seems to work the best, idk D:

If you are interested in bringing a missing *and* the most beneficial buff, there is one thing about the flowchart. Lets take the left side for example, I get the impression that it is saying that you check for the armor reduction debuff first, and fill it if its missing. It is at the top of the list, and top says priority to me. So if my impression is correct (and I could be wrong about the whole top = priority thing), then it is saying that the armor reduction is a higher priority debuff to fill over 5% crit, magic damage increase etc. However there cant be a one size fits all priority list like that because every group composition is going to be different, and each group will have a buff/debuff that is better for them.

In my usual groups, I am missing the armor reduction, however I am missing the increased magical damage increase as well, and my group is full of casters and magic damagers. Because of my makeup, the magic damage is better for the group than the armor, despite it being fourth on the flowchart.

You have to look at each group you are in to evaluate what is missing, but also look who is there to see what is most beneficial. My personal philosophy is when I am playing with others and we are working toward a common and challenging goal (like taking out bosses), I expect them to do what they can to make sure that happens. I likewise take the time to see which of my buffs best suit our groups need. Every bit helps and we, as hunters, have been given the honor of having all sorts of buffs/debuffs available. That power brings a responsibility that I take seriously. While one buff/debuff wont make or break a group, it would still be bad of me as a paladin if I refused to give out blessings, or druid marks, so I take the same personal philosophy with my hunter. I do what I can to help the group as a whole first and foremost, even if it means shelving my use of a pet I may like for moment.

just as there is more then one good pet for pvp, there is more then one good pet for pve and it depends on how you like to play. personaly i like to roll with a wolf, cat, corehound and chimera and will often switch between all four of them during the raid depending on what boss/trash we are pulling. Chimeras have the crazy aoe without a cooldown, cat and wolf are obvious of the roar they have, and core hound for when we need hero and we are shot on mages/shammys or they are so focused on "zomg dragonz i keel it nowz!11oneoneone" that they never pop it >.> i know you said no BM pets but thats just what my pve set looks like >.>

Raid makeup, ugh, 5 pets is never enough to make sure you have your buffs covered! A hunter buddy of mine recommended "Raid Checklist" addon, shows all available raid buffs and who can provide them, so it will show u if someone is providing the same buff as your pet and what is missing.

Lately I tend to use a windserpent to fill a gap, tho my preference is Ghostcrawler.

Because this question hasn't been asked and answered five million times already. :P

There is no #1 pet for raiding. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. It depends entirely on your raid makeup, what buffs you are required to bring, and your personal preference. If you are not required to bring buffs, bring a pet you like the most or are particularly attached to, be it spirit beast, wolf or boar. If you are required to bring a buff, see the bazillion-and-one pet buff guides on the Internet to find out what you need to bring.

*takes off serious hat*

Edit: The #1 pet for everything is a pet you love.
