Re: Long-Term Illness = Bored Hunter Challenge

Level 54, halfway to 55, and I'm just finished Swamp Of Sorrows. Fortunately, I'm high enough level to be able to enter Blasted Lands and start questing there. That should get me all the way to 58 (or close enough to clean it up in another land) and I should be in Outlands soon. A pity I can't get exotic pets yet; I'd get the Core Hound as my next pet. I guess I'll just have to wait and see which critter I'm closest to when it comes time to ding 55. There should be enough level 55 and under creatures that I can get one for my next pet.
.... I hope.

I'm curious so I can plan for that when Roxíe eventually gets there.

Re: Long-Term Illness = Bored Hunter Challenge
Not sure about Northrend yet (I could go either way, depending on how bored I get however fast), but for Outland, I'm definitely going to go to level 58 and hit Outland as soon as I can go through the portal.TygerDarkstorm wrote:How are you going to do Outlands and Northrend? Level 55, and it was... a bit hard. I had to do some hunting, but I finally managed to find a hyena that was level 55, and not too far from the city that I came in. So I'm still managing the 'no duplicate families' challenge with this! Had me sweating for a little bit, though.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Should take no time to get to 60 there and nab one of the felboars or carrion birds hanging around there (providing it doesn't double up).Kurasu wrote:Not sure about Northrend yet (I could go either way, depending on how bored I get however fast), but for Outland, I'm definitely going to go to level 58 and hit Outland as soon as I can go through the portal.TygerDarkstorm wrote:How are you going to do Outlands and Northrend? And congrats on 55. ^_^

Re: Long-Term Illness = Bored Hunter Challenge

Anyhow, as planned, I went to Outland at level 58 (about 3/4 to 59), and have been working my way through quests. As chance would have it, it was during the quest to purify Helboar meat that I dinged 60, so decided to take one step and grab a Helboar as my next pet, from 60 to 65. Now we're getting into the fun stretch!

Interesting findings, as well: unlike the other Helboars I tried on Kura, which have a deep, chesty growl-bellow sound effect, the Deranged Helboars (the grey and orange spikes) have a basic piggy squeal.
For my next 10 levels, I'm trying to engineer it a little bit to make sure that I can get pets I would normally be stuck on. I'm thinking I'll start in Terokkar and head to Zangarmarsh, which should ding me to 75 in the marsh, allowing me a nether ray, wasp, or sporebat for my 65-70 pet: three pets in very short supply everywhere else. From there, I'm going to try and hold out long enough to ding 70 in Shadowmoon, allowing me to pick up a chimera for my first exotic. Alternatively, I could work on getting to 70 in Blade's Edge, and get hold of a Ravager (or grab a Nethermine one).

Re: Long-Term Illness = Bored Hunter Challenge
Zangarmarsh is like a 62-63ish zone though, if you can ding 65 in there, kudos to you. I haven't quested through that zone since I was an Alliance though so maybe it's possible. It does have a unique selection of pets though that would make it worth it trying to hit 65 there....Hmmm...that's something I'll have to think about when Roxíe hits that level range.

He's level 71. Believe me: I thought of that!Sherbe wrote:You can get the Ironhide Devilsaur lookalike from Netherstorm instead of a chimera for your 70 pet can't you?

And while *technically* I could get King Krush, that would rather be against the spirit of the challenge, unless King Krush were already up when I ding 76.
Same with this. I considered the same thing.It would be really cool to make Nuramoc the 70 pet.

Re: Long-Term Illness = Bored Hunter Challenge

But like you said, the pet selection in Netherstorm is a bit limited (unless you don't have a warpie).

Re: Long-Term Illness = Bored Hunter Challenge
So far you've had...
* Crab
* Cat
* Tallstrider
* Vulture
* Bear
* Monkey
* Fox
* Beetle
* Wolf
* Owl
* Hyena
* Boar
That takes you to level 60.
From here, you could go...
62) Zangarmarsh - Wasp
64) Zangarmarsh - Nether Ray
66) Terokkar - Spider
68) Blade's Edge - Ravager
70) Netherstorm - Devilsaur
72) Howling Fjord - Dog (Beryl Hound)
74) Borean Tundra - Rhino
76) Grizzly Hills - Spirit Beast if you can get Arcturis, Wind Serpent if not
78) Sholazar Basin - Gorilla
80) Storm Peaks - Worm
81) Hyjal - Core Hound
82) I'm stumped here. Nothing else in Hyjal unless you can get the rare turtle, and Vashj'ir is all aquatic stuff. Deepholm is all level 83+, it seems. Seems we have to go with...Uldum - Crocolisk
83) Deepholm - Bat
84) back to Uldum - Scorpid
85) Twilight Headlands - Shale Spider
That's doable, I think.

Re: Long-Term Illness = Bored Hunter Challenge

Five levels still gives you a chance to bond with the pet and keeps it a challenge. It was a personal challenge he set for himself and I think that should be respected.

Re: Long-Term Illness = Bored Hunter Challenge

Reading back over comments, I actually hadn't considered the Warp Stalker option. It might be worth thinking about! But I've never leveled much with a Chimera, and it'd be nice to see just how much fun they are for leveling, rather than just as 'slowing' pets, too. Something to consider while I'm inching my way up, though!
I'm also finding increasingly that I'm really going to miss this piggie when it's time to move on to the next pet of the bunch. I haven't even named it for some reason, and yet I'm bonding really solidly with it. I'll be doing fuller reports on how I felt about various pets at the end, though, I think.

Re: Long-Term Illness = Bored Hunter Challenge

Pet for the day: definitely Sporebat. I want to make sure I can pwn rogues!
Also forgot to mention: once I finish the last of my quests, I'm thinking of poking around Nagrand. A lot of group quests there, which might be a problem for me, but the XP was always nice and high. And the atmosphere was (and is) gorgeous. Not to mention: plenty of high level quests for good XP.

Yes, doing Zangarmarsh and Nagrand has seen my alts through Outland, mostly. I usually stay in Azeroth until 60, because I hate Hellfire, and by the time I'm done with Nagrand I'm ready for Northrend.Kurasu wrote:I managed to get 65 in Zangarmarsh.
