I agree with this 100%. I really wish the tame beast would tag it and put a bubble around it where it cant be hit by outside people or things for 10 seconds.Royi wrote:yeah, to go with Talu's post, I still am a firm believer that they should implement that a hunter also "tags" a mob by hitting Tame Beast.
So many times I've heard of a hunter forgetting to hit the mob once before taming (because of the rush/ NPCSCAN drums/ flash/ screen glowing crazyness that happens when a rare is spotted.
It would all be solved by having "Tame Beast" tagging the mob. I wouldn't think that it would be too hard to implement either.

Re: loque killed/stolen on zul'jin
I agree with those that refer to the "if its gray, walk away" policy.. and of course if someone is in the process of taming, grats to them. Simple as that.
As for holding a tame.. its a thin, very messy line. If its a pet I've been searching for, and they respond genuinely with kind words and explain the situation, I'd probably even help them hold it. If they are rude and foul and act like a child, I'd probably go for the tame to be quite honest.. knowing well in advance they'd probably kill it before letting someone else tame it. I dont like seeing rare, proud animals be taken into an abusive home.
I think Vetiver and their significant other are just disappointed in the lack of respect that was displayed, which many of us (myself included) understand because alot of us have experienced it as well.
Edit: Either way, I wouldn't jump in and tame it without talking to them first to get some insight on the situation.

What that guy did was just total crap. His "for the horde" excuse was lame and he just didn't want anyone else to have Loque if he couldn't, imo. I'm really sorry that happened to you. My main is an orc hunter on Zul'jin as well and I go to the basin to look for Krush from time to time. Would you like me to have an ally alt give you a holler if I stumble upon Loque? That's how I tamed mine... a complete accident, lol. Anyway, send me a PM with your character name if you would like. I will definitely keep an eye out for Loque for you! I love his model and would love to help your boyfriend get it too!
If it helps, I found mine at the gorilla spawn point in the evening (don't have a specific spawn/tame time unfortunately).

I'd go with that as long as tame beast also received either 1) a cooldown (maybe 15-20 seconds) or 2) cost focus (the way it used to cost mana), e.g. something to prevent a hunter from "tame locking" a mob by taming it, canceling and recasting at second 9, over and over.Taluwen wrote:I agree with this 100%. Re: loque killed/stolen on zul'jin
It really is a grey area. I managed to hold Karoma for about 10 minutes before I called another friend over. She was very grateful, although I began to sweat when I saw another night elf hunter run up. He was very understanding about it and I thanked him for his kindness. That said, I think killing a tagged rare especially with someone by it is really just bad manners.

you are sweet! i jump from character to character pretty often, but if you can't find me on vetiver then anyone in blood red moon will direct you to me. or if you see him, there is a little hunter named aleksander who has been chasing loque for a few weeks who i know would love to give her a new home. Re: loque killed/stolen on zul'jin
I fully agree he was doing it to be an ass. I am referring to the fact that he probably helped you to kill it off so it would be faster than waiting it out and seeing if you had a hunter coming to tame. He probably figured that if you weren't going to kill it, and he couldn't tame it, that he was in full right to kill it off so no one else could have it either.Vetiver wrote: i guess i just don't understand how someone can be so nasty? i seriously doubt the guy was so thick that he assumed the fully raid geared paladin with well over 100k health needed any help killing the 5 levels lower mob she had tagged...so he was doing it to be an ass.
Again, it's not faction based (horde only vs alliance only) that does this.
As for it being your tag, thus your decision - well, theoretically yes, it should be. But again, that only lasts until someone else decides to effect it. He clearly did not like being told /sorry in an emote, so he killed it off. While I'm not saying it's right, you have to try to put yourself in his shoes. How long was he camping for Loque before he encountered you kiting him? You don't know if he was out there for 5 minutes or hours and hours over days. Regardless of the total search time, he was a hunter yearning for a rare pet too. Just because you tag it does not mean that it is permanently yours to do with what you please. Sorry. You have to remember that there are millions of other people that play this game- they have a right to it too.

Uh. You contradicted yourself there. If it's not your tag, it's not yours. He has no right to it if the little nameplate is grey to him. What he did was crappy and rude. Does it suck to wait? Absolutely. Does it suck to miss a tame by moments? Oh yeah, for sure.Araela wrote:I fully agree he was doing it to be an ass. Even putting myself in his shoes, it's still a colossal douche move. And it's still lousy to justify what he did with 'well, you tagged it and weren't taming it within an arbitrarily short amount of time so it's OK for him to kill it!'.
Sorry. I disagree. Even if he was out there for ages.

i will restate that if i had ever seen him camping, i would have given him the mob with no problems and explained patiently to my boyfriend why. but i spend a ton of time in sholazar/chasing rare mobs in general, lots of times for people i have found by /who-ing there (both factions)...never seen this guy before.
oh well, we will most assuredly find loque again, it just made me extremely mad that after me trying and failing to get him into rare hunting with me, he finally decides to give it a try and this was his first experience with one of the biggies. sigh.

Again, I agree, he was being an ass, and it sucks. It was just a bad situation for the OP's boyfriend's hunter, who was not camped in the area thus he lost the chance to tame. If he had been quicker to get there to tame, he probably would not have gotten much of a fight from the Orc is all I'm saying.
I'm not saying it's right at all - just that you don't know anything about his history either, and he should have been more considerate of the fact that someone was attempting to hold it for someone else.

Re: loque killed/stolen on zul'jin
Unless you mean nothing stops someone from stepping in and killing it, which I think is kind of a lousy mechanic... Few classes can get griefed that way (Spirit beasts are a unique brand of painful because they're -all- rare spawns). I'm not even sure WHY the orc would kill it because he gets 0 loot, 0 XP and 0 achievement from it aside from griefing purposes. What do you get from killing something someone else has tagged? 0. Sure, I've saved peeps who've pulled elites or one too many mobs but.Araela wrote:

I'm not saying it's right at all - just that you don't know anything about his history either, and he should have been more considerate of the fact that someone was attempting to hold it for someone else.
And the orc's history shouldn't factor in. Like I said - I've been heartbroken over landing just to see NPCscan had gone off on a new tame (Missed Krush a few times). I've seen dead rares in the wild. And heck, there's the story of the guild that held Gondria or Skoll for like 7 hours so their pal could tame it.
As an example, my own story: I saw Skoll ONCE alive in the wild for about 30 seconds until the paladin finished splattering him across the mountaintops. I was heartbroken. Even more so when the paladin was like 'oh lol killed him about 7 times. Love killing Skoll!' The only other time I saw Skoll before my computer crashed. I logged in and - well, no Skoll. Does that give me a right to go kill it beneath someone else? Absolutely -not-. Yes, I have my Skoll now. I still wouldn't kill it beneath someone, even if I didn't have him. Or if I saw someone holding him. Can camping a long time do strange things to your temper/mood? Oh yeah. I get kinda grumpy, frustrated, territorial, irritable - I'm sure if you hit a thesaurus for 'pouty' there's a few more you could string on while camping. Some of the words you could apply to me shouldn't be mentioned in polite company, I'm sure. And I looked for Skoll since 3.2, which August of ... last year. Yeah. It took me awhile! But that's still no excuse to be a griefer or a brat. That orc should put on his big boy pants and be grateful he has a timer/no one rubbed his face in it like the folks who name their spirit beasts ENVY or NOTYOURS or MINE and waltz around you or spawn points. In the end, I can kind of see your point - maybe he acted out of frustration or grief.
Edit: Wow, that got rambly. I hope it more came off as a story instead of Ranty McRantingpants. Isn't it amazing what nostalgia and long hauls can do to your sanity? The peaks drive you LOOPY. Loopy! And congratulations on your spectral hooter!

Reportedly the orc did initially try to tame it; from the sounds of it, he didn't interpret Vetiver's /sorry emote the way she intended it, and things just went downhill from there.Novikova wrote:I'm not even sure WHY the orc would kill it because he gets 0 loot, 0 XP and 0 achievement from it aside from griefing purposes.
