Jumping drakes

Unread post by erwil »

I'm not sure if there's a similar thread to this already out there, but I just went through the drake mount animations files on WMV for a photshop project, and.

They've got proper jumping animations now. o.O If I don't remember terribly wrong, the animations were not in the files before this patch. Could this mean they're going to let us use our drakes in places where flying is not allowed (instances, BC starting areas) some time in the future?

thats neat, but it would overall KILL every ground mount :( I miss the ground mount only places without seeing roflcoptors hovering on the ground.

granted I like flying around in Azeroth now, but part of me "enjoyed" the scenery with using the ground mount.

Yeah, I can relate to that, and I agree with what you said about the scenery. I'd like to see Bliz add more different mounts in the future, instead of.. Well, drakes with new skins. >.>

The drakes do look quite comical when they jump though. I'd like to be able to "jump" with them normally even in areas where you CAN fly. xD

I've noticed my epic engineering gyrocopter had an actual 'jump' animation the other day actually.
It's no longer just a failed take off animation. It's an actual 'jump'. So it's not just the drakes. :)

Ooh? Haven't noticed that at all. *logs her engineer* Oh damn, that's actually quite neat. :D

They also seem to have changed the way horses walk (they look more natural now), as well as the way the drakes' winds fold and they look like they're shaking their "hips" when they walk. xD
The stone drakes though, still have those extra pieces of gray on their wings. :<

Yeah, starting to get fed up with all drakes invading the citie areas and standing on the damn AH/trainer npc´s...>.>
Blizzard should try make tinier flying mounts who arn´t drakes. o/ And more groundmounts so ppl will be more interested in riding them instead of the flying mounts all the time.

*drifting away into the land of mounts*

I think I know the reason :)

When you are this drake, you ARE this drake. If you get cycloned while standing on the ground in drake form, this is the animation used.

If it isn't "the" reason, it's still quite cool :P

Also, during Cataclysm Beta, I think for awhile flyers were useable in WSG etc--but not flying. So the mounts simply jumped rather than flying--I definitely remember seeing gryphon mounts jumping about in there!

For your own drake jumping hilarity, grab a Potion of Illusion and stand under/target one of the five million Vial users in your Orgrimmar/Stormwind. Be sure to fully abuse/use your hunter abilities to your best extent for those glorious two minutes - Bestial Wrath, Feign Death, even shoot some arrows/bullets out of your...er...neck. Other potential targets: Druids in any form, ghost wolves, your best friend(with a mage, you can have a whole party of clones).

As for non-drake flyers - Cenarion Hippogryph or bust. ;P I love my Killinger, she's like a sleek sports car among the drake minibuses. I made my friend's epic 'copter too and I'm quite fond of that as well - not fond enough to grind out the Khorium again, but...

For ground mounts, ICly Veeka has a talbuk, but hearing everyone's voice jerk up several pitches in a piteous whine when I use my Raven Lord is pretty awesometerrible, so I rarely use it for showing off purposes.

Yup! I originally picked up the grind for the ground animations, but I've grown to love my hippogryph not only for that but also because she's a lot smaller than the protodrakes/stone drakes/whatever it is those kids are riding nowadays. Even on a tauren the Hippogryph isn't obnoxiously huge, which is more than anyone can say for the drakes.

I'm seeing them a lot more now than I did during Wrath, and while it makes me a little sad on the inside, I know mine is special because she has her own personality/art. :B
