I think it has to do with the sense of being unable to discern between up and down, forwards and backwards, which usually mean that you're horribly lost.Felidire wrote:That's funny, I feel pretty comfortable swimming in the dark fatigue zones but out of place swimming around vashj'irPawtrack wrote:In WoW dark water or just deep water freak me out, though Vash'jir isn't too creepy for me, just very confusing because it's 3D, with mobs on the seafloor, above you and to the sides.

Re: Am I the only one who feels this way?
I have a slight fear of dark, and most dark zones creep me out somewhat or just depress me. It depends though.... Darkshore is depressing, Duskwood is not, but a bit creepy. Hated Icecrown and Zul'drak, far too dark and creepy.
Icecrown and Dragonblight also suffer from my pet hate in WoW; snowy areas. I think it's because I'm from a dark, snowy country, really. Winterspring is bleh, unless it's daytime and extra sunny, Storm peaks is snowy, but I like the titan structures and quests.
I LOVE tropical areas in this game, give me palm trees and turquoise water and I'm fine, STV, Tanaris, Uldum, Un'goro, Sholazar Basin.... LOVE them.
Also, I dislike apes and don't like them in WoW either.

Re: Am I the only one who feels this way?

The only thing in game that really bothers me is swimming in the water with crocolisks. I have a healthy fear/respect of real life gators and such and on occasion I'll get that "I realllly don't like this" feeling when I see one while swimming. Though the new skins don't bother me as much because they're not as realistic.
That and some of the more disgusting undead creatures I can't eat and play around them at the same time.

Vashj-whatever it is written, is ok with me. Might be because I can see everything, but the giant whale shark scared me. However, one thing that made me panic was when doing some quests in Un'goro where you had to loot something in the black tar pit thingies. I couldn't for the life of me get up there as fast as I wanted to. :p

Re: Am I the only one who feels this way?
What scares me irl is HUGE objects. Buildings especially, idk. So, the whale shark, and the neutral shark attacked by tentacles (idk it's name) were enough to get me out of Vashj'ir for good.
Any particular zone no, but just seeing something extraordinary large ingame (old gods example) really makes me feel uneasy, so my zoom is always usualy maxed out so that they look as small as they can.
Example quest comes to mind: riding and hopping from one drake to another inm the Storm peaks around that huge..terrace was it?
Another place is Deathwing's scar in the Badlands. Just seeing it makes me imagine it and how it went, and ugh, horrible.
My fear, postz0red.

I also dislike things that eat you. C'thun and Yogg-Saron really really bother me. Having to fight your way out of their bellies *shudder*

Not necessarily linked but, I have severe mycophobia (irrational fear of mushrooms). When I saw Zangarmarsh, because of the low res they made the mushrooms (and the fact that they're too big for me to see on a normal screen), I was okay. If anyone remembers the mushroom boss in Old Kingdom...first time I went there, I had a panic attack. The better graphics, the dew hanging from each of them...just thinking about it is making my skin crawl. My boyfriend's sister was in the group and told me to do the fight looking down at the floor. I'm glad it was an optional boss; every time I went back, I made sure I would never do it.

Re: Am I the only one who feels this way?
As for zones that creep me out...man, pre-Shattering, Azshara used to give me the willies. So bad. Why? Well for starters, since there were so few quests there and only one usable flight path for either faction, it always felt really empty. Sometimes I would wander into Azshara long enough to grind up a level or two so I could move on to other zones, or to do some fishing to level cooking on one of my toons. Whenever I typed /who Azshara it ALWAYS came up with just me. Or maybe me and one other name. Not only that but I always had this bad feeling that I was constantly being watched by something following me, or that something really sinister and demonic was going on there. It probably didn't help that I would frequently stumble across those campsites up in the hills with lit fires and braziers and Horde/Alliance banners and watchtowers and such, but no people EVER. Like they just vanished out of thin air, with no word to anybody. It just really, really, REALLY creeped me out. I was always out of there ASAP.
By contrast I love new Azshara, the redesign was great.
I also tend to avoid certain places in zones, especially when I know they have things I don't want to see. Like giant spiders. Ew. And once I found a dead Whale Shark in Thousand Needles and was outta there like a bat out of hell, it scared me so bad.

I used to get that in City of Mist in EQ on the middle ramps behind the first hidden door. WoW bothers me less for some reason...not sure why.Rhapture wrote:There are a few things in wow that really weird me out but glass floors are the worst. I remember years ago Darkshore used to freak me out. Again, mainly just the deserted, dreary places. I quite enjoyed the quests in Zul Drak but the content depressed me so much, once I did it on my main I haven't done those quests since.

Re: Am I the only one who feels this way?
Oddly enough the scariest part wasn't seeing the big skeletons themselves, it was that brief period when I swam over the edge of the Abandoned Reef and got into the deep water. For an instant everything is hazy and you can't see a thing. Freaked me right out, but I managed to focus myself on the shapes of the bones and just kept swimming towards them. Once you lose the seahorse you realize how freaking far away and enormous the skeletons are. You don't seem to be moving forwards at all. Eventually I just used Eagle Eye to snap down to the sea floor where they were and take screenies since I wouldn't make it anywhere near them before fatigue got me.
They were pretty awesome to see, a little creepy, but I think my fascination overpowered my queasiness at giant bones at the depths of the ocean.
It's really hard to judge the magnitude of the bones from screenshots alone, but my character wouldn't even have been the size of one of the teeth in the large skulls.

Re: Am I the only one who feels this way?
Thank you for the screenshots. I thought that'd be enough to sate my curiosity, but now I want to see it for myself, so my friend has offered to accompany me out there on Skype along with his druid. I shall Eagle Eye down as far as I can go and see what I can see before chickening out/dying of fatigue.
But you can skyrocket away from me,
and never come back if you find another galaxy
far from here with more room to fly.
Just leave me your stardust to remember you by.
