Topic on Lobsters

Unread post by Griffley »

I have been over this "Issue" a couple of times, but I would like to openly discuss it now...

The Lobsters are all over the World of Warcraft, and for some reason, they are all "Humanoid", which doesn't really make sense to me. (I might be missing out on some groovy humanlobster lore here.)
They have always been "Humanoids", which is a big shame because I would love to tame one, even if they were simply marked as Crabs.
I have been craving for a lobster pet since day 1...

A standard Red Lobster:

A Blue minilobster in Orgrimmar, these are weirdly enouth, Beasts instead of humanoids. (Untameble though)

There are many lobster skins, Here is a list of what might be all of them. http://www.wowhead.com/npcs?filter=cr=34;crs=0;crv=172
They would make great pets, Do any other hunters feel this way too?

Happy Hunting

They are indeed a sentient humanoid race, hence their classification. They have a language, a city, a culture...I doubt they would become tameable beasts, but the possibility's always there I suppose for a beast version to be implemented.
The makrura are a race of humanoid lobsters (or more likely crayfish) from the capital city of Mak'aru that live primarily in the sea, but are capable of surviving on land for short periods of time.
Makrura speak Nerglish, and in fact they may have invented the language. They use a primitive but powerful form of magic that is related to the element of water. They are also incredibly hostile and will attempt to kill anybody that comes near them. They are often found underwater guarding shipwrecks.

And yet we have Delicacies like Lobster Stew, that seems rather Beastly.
Even though I see you have a big point, its not like they equal Taurens, I did not come across any "Tauren Stew".

Thanks for the heads up on the lore though, I was afraid that something like that might pop up.

They're certainly far more primitive than other beastly races, probably just below Murlocs really. Still, they've been in lore since the early Warcraft games so they have a well established history in the storyline.

Funny, I added them to the untameable skins list with a note about a week ago. Yes, the model is almost entirely used for the humanoid race, but there are two beasts that use it now... crawdads in Org and lobsters in SW. But maybe if there were more beast versions in the game it'd only confuse things. :/

Ants and silithids made cities and languages too, yet we can tame all of them.

Just because they know how to converse with eachother doesnt mean they cant use a bit of hunter love ;D

No, they didn't really :) The silithids are the beasts that the Qiraji were made from, but they themselves are just smart beasts :)

Yeah, the two makrura/lobster models DO make complete sense for beasts. It's just because they're also used for humanoids I wonder if they'd worry about confusing things if they used them frequently for both. But we can hope :) Maybe if they could modify the model just a little so the humanoid ones look somehow more sophisticated then it could be less confused... put dresses on them? :D

I'd love to have these as pets.

If we can tame game developers, we should be able to tame makruras :)

I'd love to have a pet lobster ... but I'm afraid it would make me terribly hungry. :D

I love arthropods -- but while I wouldn't mind taming a lobster myself, the problem is that they're built to function in or at least near water. Sure, they can function out of water, but not as effectively. Except for our old friend Mr. Pinchy. Say, that's an idea for a new tameable rare, right there! Wouldn't it be great if Furious Mr. Pinchy were? He's treated as a Makura though. And Benevolent Mr. Pinchy only lasts 10 minutes, after which he gets tired of defending us and needs to head back to the water.

Speaking of the Makura, think of them as an aquatic equivalent of the Yeti, which we can't tame either although we have minipet versions of both.

In the meantime I'm really happy with my land arthropods (got brown and black Maddex this week, and named them "Frood" and "Agrajag" respectively. Sambas is "Zaphod" :D)
