Re: Pets that you have never liked/never would tame
Gorillas - I always though they were ugly. The icy blue one, I'm okay with, but... I just don't like them.
Ravagers - Pretty colors, but I just don't like their model.
Crocolisks - No, no and no.
Bats - Never very fond of them.
Turtle - Boring.
Moths - Pretty, but don't fit me.
Crabs - Boring.
Nether Rays - Just... no.
I think that's about it. XD

Re: Pets that you have never liked/never would tame
Right now, there aren't actually any family of pets I wouldn't ever tame, just some specific skins in them. If I had the space, I'd probably have one of every family. I used to dislike spiders, but some of the tarantula and northrend models are growing on me. I never liked the blank look Hyenas had, but looking over them again, I'd give one the chance, had I the space. I really dislike the real looking vultures, but some of the outland models are interesting.
It all depends on what skin with me really. XD

Chimeras - Never cared for them. Sorry.
Dragonhawks - Something too illogical about them...
Ravagers - Never liked the model, although I love the colours.
Silthids - Same again
Snakes/worms - Same again, only I hate snakes with my gut. I have a phobia of snakes.

Great topic, btw. And I only have one "pet" that never stays with me for longer than 5 minutes...
Gorilla's. Nuff said.

P.S. Saturo, that pic of Mothra bitch-slapping Godzilla made me spit out my coffee!

Re: Pets that you have never liked/never would tame
I suppose I would consider myself an oddball when it comes to pets because I tend to "theme" each pet around my hunter in spite of my preference for them and their individual abilites. I have a dragonhawk (I agree that their lack of limbs is bothersome, but I still think they are beautiful) and a rhino. I also plan to tame a ravager for my Undead Hunter someday even though I am not particularily fond of their wicked appearance (the exact reason why I can envision such a pet for an Undead character).
There are some pets I find unappealing but regardless, if they somehow "fit in" with the concept I have developed for my hunter, I will give them an opportunity to shine in battle.

Re: Pets that you have never liked/never would tame
Oh my god, I do this too!! xD Sometimes when I start a new hunter I'll specifically go for pets that I normally would never tame just so that they match the character. For example, my newest Orc Hunter I've made to have brown hair and decided all of her pets will be earthy colours like brown or orange to match the Barrens sort of atmosphere. I hate orange and brown usually, but since it suits her I magically don't mind them. xD Often I've been surprised by finding myself liking a pet I had never given a chance before.Niabi wrote:I suppose I would consider myself an oddball when it comes to pets because I tend to "theme" each pet around my hunter in spite of my preference for them and their individual abilites.

Re: Pets that you have never liked/never would tame
My Dwarf Huntress has taken a similar route. All of her pets are brown/earthy/rock colors. Surprisingly, I don't see too many hunters going after the "plain jane skinned" pets, but it is because of that I believe it makes them all that more special.Vephriel wrote:Oh my god, I do this too!! xD Sometimes when I start a new hunter I'll specifically go for pets that I normally would never tame just so that they match the character. So much ravager hate :< I looooved mine! His offputting appearance became somewhat endearing... guess I'm odd... It was always fun to creep people out in low level dungeons. But I found him pretty great for lower levels and almost tamed one again recently. May just do that...

Re: Pets that you have never liked/never would tame
I won't say that there is any pet I wouldn't tame.
For me, the pet has to be fitting with the hunter.
My blood elf hunter still runs around with his lynx he tamed at level 10. They are bonded in friendship and I think I couldn't release him, even if I tried. Gerethay went 70 levels with me. The Old World, Outland and Northrend. Every Quest my hunter made, he made it with Gerethay. I only got me a wolf when people in raids kind of insisted on it.
Then tere is my two Trolls. One with a hyena, the other, as he worships Ula'tek, with a crocolisk.
My orc huntress has a backstory of being kidnapped and raised by those icetrolls in Dun Morogh, so she naturally has a polar bear that she found as a cub, when she ran away from the trolls.
Come Cata, I'll have a human hunter. He'll have a dog or wolf, if dogs aren't available.
I'd never play a worgen hunter as I couldn't think of any pet to fit a werewolf as a companion.
I'd never tame one of the undead pet skins unless I play an Forsaken hunter in Cata.
You see, I'll tame anything that fits my toon.

I've tried out lots of pets, and there are some, even skins within a pet family, that I just didn't "click" with.
As far as entire families..
Spiders. I am an arachnophobe, so these guys are right out. Back when Tahlian was a night elf, the baby hunter taming quest where you had to tame a spider was just...yeah. Ick.
Wasps. I am not a fan of flying pets...about the only one I could stand for any stretch of time was my Outland wind serpent, Nikola. Add to that the huge size of the Sholazar wasps and this is not a pet I think I'd get along with.

Re: Pets that you have never liked/never would tame
Very very interesting topic indeed!
I don't want to get specific with the colors, because there are PLENTY of ugly ducklings in this game haha.
-Flying Pets: obnoxious flapping..
-Warpstalkers: Their teleport thing is frustrating, and i've yet to find a decent use for them in anything really.. even though their waddle is adorable.
-Tallstriders: The game's true ugly duckling.. and has little if not, no use at all what-so-ever. Definitely the kind of pet that would be best suited as an interesting mount imo.
-Sporebats: Nope.. don't know why, just blecky looking.
-Crocolisks: /shiver.. the loud hissing has scared me for the last time, Croco!!
Damn alligatuhz..

Yeah, I like the gorillas too but you'll never ever see me with a turtle or pig. Unless they make a flying pig...mmmmm...pork wings...

Re: Pets that you have never liked/never would tame
Funny you should ask! I've been dragging this wind serpent around since Feralas. This is my first hunter, and even though I'm level 74, I've never really paid attention much to my pet. But ... today I got booted out of a dungeon party. I'm not sure why, exactly, except somewhere in the confusion of the battle I remember seeing these four line posted by the leader in the party chat:
"the stupidest pet..."
"ever trained..."
"by any hunter..."
"ever...!"
After that I found myself back at Conquest Hold! DOH & and a big lol to that one. Since I was the only hunter, I can only imagine they were talkin' about me! So now I'm camped out in Grizzly Hills lookin' for Arcturus. I'm looking forward to showing up in some dungeon with that dude. Then let 'em laugh!!!

Re: Pets that you have never liked/never would tame
I don't think it was because it was a Wind Serpent, is it possible that you did'nt have complete control over your pet? Most groups would allow a Wind Serpent, because it looks cool. Come with a moth and they'll say "lol what a bad pet", but something cool-looking like a WS I doubt they'd have a problem with.ebondfrancisco wrote:Funny you should ask! Everyone wants basilisks to be tamable, but, honestly, I'd never tame one. They're just.. bleh to me. Ugly in every singe way. xD

Just wish I didn't have to be BM to tame one -- That, or a silithid is probably the only thing I'd want out of the whole bunch.
I also dislike the diseased skins. The undead boars, I don't have so much of a problem with, but, see... a disease shouldn't be a permanent state. You're sick for a while, then you either get better or you die. Having your body literally rot off you like the diseased models do, I'm inclined to say you'll die. And I just don't like to think of my pet in be in such an agonizing, miserable existence. My hunter would have to be an evil bastard to allow that.
Re: Pets that you have never liked/never would tame
After some thinking I would have to choose ravegers and gorillas. Like someone else already said, the gorillas are just too human-like. As for the ravegers...no real reason, just don't like them.
Oh, and the outland raptors. This is going to sound very odd, but they look very fake to me. Almost like they are walking clay sculptures, and not "actual" beasts. Normal raptors on the other hand are awesome.
