My pets get a combination of food (if I have it) and mend pet to bring them up to happiness faster.

And yeah, the whole predator vs. prey thing...should think they would have that down now. Makes so I can't look at raptors from the front anymore, just looks too weird.

I will see about getting Fiona a green turtle in a bit.

I thought about trekking all the way to Quel'Thalas, but I was feeling lazy and used my hearthstone.

How convenient that I wind up right next to a field of Bobcats!

So, I tame that very bobcat.

I clamored on top of one of the nearby boulder-hills, and did a photoshoot.


Some of you who have been playing WoW for years may recognize this as the old druid cat form's model. While that doesn't include me, I can pull up an example from WoW Model Viewer.

It's a rare picture of Azunara as a kitten!

Now, to get a close-up of those interesting, green and yellow eyes.

Yikes! Never knew that about the brown lynx model. Well, that spot is hardly noticeable unless you zoom in that close, so let's ignore it.

This cat model, like the other cat models, has two idle animations.
Looking side-to-side:

...and stretching:

The lynx model cats use the same sound file as the tigers and riding tigers when it comes to their stretching animation. In other words, they do a yawn when they stretch, followed by a slobber-y sound when they shake their head immediately afterward. Seems that only the lion models will let out a roar when they do the stretch, and be silent when shaking their head afterward. One more quirk with this model is something that it inherited from the druid model it is based off of, like the stormcrow model for Birds of Prey; there are elf ears on a creature that typically would not have them.

They look oddly out of place, but at least you aren't seeing ears being slapped onto a creature that doesn't really have visible ears.

The benefit of the ears is that they give a funny little quirk to the head swivel idle animation; the ears go all askew at odd angles in an oddly charming way.


For all the flaws that I pointed out, I must say that this is a beauty of a model.

I was assigned:

While I haven't really bonded with the old world turtles much, I had a feeling this would be a good roll for Fiona. So from Org I took the zeppelin to Undercity and from there the transporter to Silvermoon.


I ran my little goblin legs all the way out to the lake these guys spawn in and tried to make friends with the first one I saw.


Named her Appletini in keeping with the sort of theme I have going on for Fiona and set up to take some screenshots. Both Appletini and I are low to the ground which makes taking screenshots a bit of a challenge.


The old world turtles do have a bit of a derpy look to their face, but I find it rather charming. I also like the green color of this turtle and the yellow shell seems to complement it well.

You can definitely tell these guys are vanilla models. The shell almost looks as if it was stitched together and there's a big piece on top that looks like a cork or something. Their claws are also low res, but on the bright side, they have real teeth and the scaling detail looks nice.

The yellow shell also gets very bright and shiny in bright lighting situations.


Turtle animations are very adorable. They may look a little derpy, but they try so very hard for you! ^_^ They're quiet by your side and stretch their neck as they idle, almost as if they're keeping a look out. Their run is very cute too.

Very waddly and dopey; suiting for them.

When it came to fighting, poor Appletini was three levels below me and tried very valiantly to keep aggro off of me, even though it didn't work so well. I know that as she levels up she will turn into a great tank and that she just needs some practice being a guard turtle.


Overall, I really love Appletini. She has a ton of personality and she looks really good with Fiona. She'll definitely be my solo pet for a while as I just hit 18 and can now carry an extra pet on me for dungeons. This little turtle is far too cute to give up and she has a ton of heart.

Part II of the Brown Lynx Pet Challenge!


The thing with Shorelfon is that he's a demon hunter, blindfold and all (the blindfold should be rather visible in the below screenshot. Hence, his stable is being filled with pets that are suitable towards that end.
So, we set off to do some nearby questing.


Err...

...are those explosives fading in and out of existence?

Yep. How odd. Much to my disappointment, the nearby dwarves didn't have a quest involving those explosives.

Finally, I decided upon a name. The green spec in the cat's otherwise yellow eyes reminds me of the fel corruption of the blood elves. I decided that this was a taint of fel magic in his eyes, and that it may somehow give him an edge over fel demons. I tend to pick pets that are slightly corrupted by fel magic, enough to 'inoculate' them in a sense without completely corrupting them. So, this cat fits right in (and even replaced my starting pet), but needed a name.
Never mind the squatter that took up residence in my vacant tent.
The antumbra is a region of a shadow. If you were in the antumbra cast by a planet or other celestial body, and were to face the light source, you would see a ring of light surrounding a shadow (the shadow being the celestial body). This reminds me of the eyes on this cat, hence the name.

Oh look, a new quest!

Ahem...back to the random pet challenge!
A funny little quirk that sometimes pops up with the kitty swimming animation!

Well, this ought to be good practice, at least.


It turns out that the Loch Monster is anything but a pushover at this level!

As you can see, Antumbra gave it his all, and I was barely able to avenge him.

Leave no cat behind!

...shut up. It was a two-man raid, and we almost didn't make it. You try this at level 21!

So, Antumbra has earned a place in my stables. Once I get a Glyph of Mend Pet, I'll start using pets other than my sleepy bear. For now, Antumbra gets some well-earned R&R.

After this screenshot, I then decided to level him to 20, but forgot to take another symbolic screenshot. Besides, this screenshot coincidentally has a double entente! Don't look at me; it was a clear upgrade that would have been silly to not choose.

Cats are great DPS pets, providing a buff equivalent to a shaman's Strength of Earth totem, a death knight's Horn of Winter, or a warrior's Battle Shout. Like all pet-provided buffs and debuffs, Roar of Courage will not stack with equivalent abilities provided by other players. Prowl provides mixed benefits, giving your pet a powerful opener but delaying their arrival in combat. Putting a talent point into Boar's Speed will negate the movement speed lost when in Prowl, if you are willing to pick what is otherwise a useless talent. If you're a BM hunter and manage to tame a Spirit Beast, then having a Cat will be redundant unless you have a non-BM offspec. Not much more to be said about this pet family, really, save that they have the greatest number of different skins of any pet family.

I have this worgen. She needs a new companion. I love Darius, my dog, but eh...he's not the most clicky pet. The problem is, I haven't found a pet that says, "Oi. I will be your leveling partner through hell and back." I'm one of those people who find a pet I adore and level only with it. Moonlight for Firewing, Blackjack for Terania, Maxwell the Felguard for Ravynira....

So Ivika, my worgen, needs a friend. And I figured this would be a great place to try.

So, Ivy made the easy travel to Teldrassil to pick up a grey owl.

First owl I saw, I tamed. Simple, easy, ta-da. I fed him, (I decided it was a guy owl. Just because.) and checked out trick. He, not surprisingly, refused to do so. I called him lazy. I named him Strix, because that's the earless owl family, and I don't see ears on him.

I've always loved the owls' idle animation. Just the lazy flap, flap, flap, riiise, descend makes me go aw. And the head shake, too. Sweet.

He's got beautiful colors, actually. From that angle, he has dark blue feathers near the base of his wings. He has beautiful golden eyes and a pretty beak.

Sounds aren't an issue, I never play with sound.

He eats meat, same as Darius, so food isn't an issue.

Qued up for an instance. He had some body pulling issues, but I took care of that. He was pretty awesome once he got to my level. When the tank pulled Hogger and everyone else, Strix ended up tanking one or two to try and spare the healer. We wiped, but that bird give it his all.

I think the best part was when one of the group members actually RPed, trying to carefully pet Strix. The overall group was awesome. I got new pants, new cloak, and a new hat. (I'll miss the top hat.)

He holds aggro fairly well. I miss Lock Jaw, but mobs die before they can get to me and say hi. No useful test elites nearby, so I can't quite put Strix to the full test.

All in all, I really like this bird. I've never actually used an owl, so it's new for me. I think I'll hold onto him and level with him for now. I'm not sure if he's -completely- sold me, I've worked with cunning in the past and there comes a point where they just can't keep up to me. (Heirloom gear doesn't help.) so I end up getting really hurt. I won't question a new roll for further experimenting.

@Kormai: I hope I didn't throw your sleep schedule out of sync the other day (stayed up kinda late leveling alts on Nesingwary; time flies when having fun). I'm afraid there isn't much to be done when you wake up too early and can't get back to sleep; taking a sleeping aid like melatonin isn't such a good idea when you only want an hour or two of sleep, and some people seem to get 'stuck' awake if they wake up during the night (my mother has that problem).

@TygerDarkstorm: It's great when you pitch in like that. If you are afraid of stepping on toes, maybe you can come up with an unofficial rule that after 3 days (pulled that number out of a hat) of a roll request and no response from Kormai, you'll provide some rolls yourself. Or, figure out a system with Kormai over PMs.

I think I'll opt for the crab, since I don't really feel like waiting out a low-level DPS queue for a dungeon.

On a slightly different topic, do you guys and gals think I should spend less time with screenshots/adventures/silliness, and more time actually giving a critique? I guess I'm just asking whether or not my posts are particularly useful. Just getting the feeling that you have to go digging through my posts to find out useful info such as my impressions of the pet's special ability, and exotic or bonus ability if applicable.

Mmk, starting this with Fiona. Also opting to be incredibly lazy and go for the boar because Fiona was already in Orgrimmar.

So I ran out to Durotar and hooked a right toward the farm where I saw a piggly wandering all on his own.


I decided to make friends with him since he seemed kind of lonely.


I named him Rocky and we posed for a pic.


I'm not quite sure this guy matches Fiona, but he sure is cute. I really like boars, so cute and full of personality. I like the grey color on this boar, it's a nice, muted color that almost looks silvery.

The greys are also varying shades across his body, and he has little spots on his flanks. His mane is a dark grey and looks a little low res.
Rocky also has a really cute face. Say cheese!


We went for a visit to his local piggies before heading out to Ashenvale.


All right, before I keep rambling, piggy animations are adorable. They are very active by your side, either looking from side to side or sniffing the ground and wiggling their butts in the air. It's especially amusing to see on the demon pig models. Their run is insanely adorable. They stretch those little legs out and run as fast as their little legs will carry them.


And when they swim, they piggy paddle!


With me being survival, poor Rocky doesn't have the best aggro control yet, but he sure tried his darndest.

Also, being tenacity means that he doesn't do the most damage, however, my explosive shot makes up for it.

Overall, I like Rocky, he's very cute and I've been planning on getting a boar pet for Fiona. I'll keep Rocky for now until I decide on a color I like to match Fiona.

I do a mix of both. I try to use quite a few screenshots for interest in between what I hope is a decent amount of critique.

Nimae here to (finally) report on the Brown Horde Scorpion, . Pesky real life demands attention, sorry for the late write-up!

•Model: Horde Scorpion
•Skin: Brown (Venomscale Spitter)
•Animations: Wavey idle animation, heyooo!
•Sound effects: Fun fierce chitter and screech.
•Food requirements: Meat.
•Tanking ability: Holds excellent aggro.
•Pet family abilities: Clench (10 sec. melee and ranged disarm).
•Utility: Amazing pet for both PvE tanking and PvP. When in PvP, even with multiple people beating him up (and limited number of heals), he just doesn't die! The disarm is priceless. One of my favorite PvP pets.

I made my way to Uldum and began to scan the area for Venomscale Spitters. I've done my fair share of Madexx camping / rehoming, and wanted to see the newbie critters. They seem to fit in well with their new territories:


My guy protested quite a bit to the whole taming thing:



...but became a sweetheart once all was said and done...although he did try to scare away his own shadow. So fierce!


I took Tucker up north into Madexx's stomping grounds, to test his hand (claw?) at pewpewing:


I love the attack animation on this model, and he runs very smoothly. It's mesmerizing to watch him skitter alongside you. A beautifully done model, and each skin color emphasizes different parts of the carapace / fangs / stinger / eyes...which explains why I still can't decide between my Black Madexx (MadMadexx) and my Red Madexx (still trying to find an appropriate name...any suggestions? Or does anyone think one is better suited to my char versus the other?):

While I adored Tucker, mainly due to my love of the model, I didn't connect as much with the Brown skin. I released him shortly after, where I'd previously seen Brown Madexx spawn. Maybe he'll grow up to be big and strong like him someday.

@Kormai: I hope I didn't throw your sleep schedule out of sync the other day (stayed up kinda late leveling alts on Nesingwary; time flies when having fun). I'm afraid there isn't much to be done when you wake up too early and can't get back to sleep; taking a sleeping aid like melatonin isn't such a good idea when you only want an hour or two of sleep, and some people seem to get 'stuck' awake if they wake up during the night (my mother has that problem).

No worries about the sleep schedule it's been like that for a looong time now and every time I try to fix it (like last night) it doesn't work. I tried to do it gradually but that didn't work either. Oh well! As for the bad sleep, I'm used to it, been an insomniac for as long as I can remember. Tried melatonin, velarian, and many others but the problem isn't getting to sleep it's staying asleep. Talked at length with my doctors; I know why it happens but there isn't much of a solution. I have sleeping pills that are non-addictive but I don't like taking them very often. I think I'll take one tonight.

About your posts, ummmm maybe make them one post long? Otherwise it's fine. I find it interesting to read the different types of reports people give and from their different perspectives.

Tyger: heh don't worry about it, I really don't mind.

Concussion: mmmmm red Madexx is so sexy! I like him/her the best with you really. What to name it? hmmmm, Blade? Simitar? I don't know.

Actually, I personally think that brown Madexx skin looks absolutely lovely with your character. He really meshes well with your hair color and eyes.
