And they can twist it to something extremely over the top. People hide behind the anonymity of the web.

You should have just let it go when he left the group. But whats the saying, hindsight is 20/20 huh? =P Believe me, I like to fuel people's rage - but the other way around. Replying back is never a good choice.

The other day while I was mining in Uldum, something I usually do when I'm hunting for Madexx. I was just finishing off this Pyrite node when I saw this shaman standing on top of the mine. I didn't even see him land. But doesn't matter, I got there first. Hence why I got the loot from the mine. I flew off. Then came the hate tell - "#$@# you you #$%@#$%^ piece of #$% #%@#." (blip out!) =D

That took me back a bit. Over one little node that I had gotten there first? I wasn't going to apologize for that. I probably would've given him the ores if he had ask, just because I'm a nice person. But I have little consideration for anyone that blantently abusive. I replied back with, "rage more." Knowing full well that's what he was going to do. He sent me back a bunch of more name callings and lewd suggestions of what I should do with his private parts. I typed back that if he didn't stop harassing me, I was going to report him. But he had put me on ignore. Amused, I told my guildies about it. One of them ask for his name, I absentmindly gave it to him.

A few minutes later, the shaman msg me again with a wall of insults telling me I must be lonely to go and make an alt just so that I could talk to him. Took me a second to realize my guildie must've sent him a msg. So I ask in gchat what he said. He told me didn't say anything profane, just a short msg "rage more, mine faster."

I just laughed it off and put the guy on ignore since he wants to bombard me with text and I couldn't even reply back. But see how easy it is to fuel the fire? I didn't even say anything other than "rage more" to the guy.

I really don't get in depth harassment. I'm usually pretty aloof ingame, I try my best not to let things bother me.
Hmm. I agree the guy overreacted, but I seem to recall at least at one point haste made mining go faster - think it was when 3.0 came out; I remember some guy swooped in and started mining a node I'd already started mining - and he got the ore. A few days later on a different toon who was higher level and wearing a lot of +haste gear, I ended up racing someone to a node (this was on quel danas, the island with all the lvl 70 dailies aka BC precursor to argent tourney)... he got there a step ahead of me, but it was so close and I wasn't feeling charitable that day so I figured "what the hell might as well try" and lo and behold, I got the ore - and I could actually see my bar complete faster than I'd been used to in past.

Not sure if that's still the case, as it's been a long time since I was in competition for someone for ore nodes (esp nowadays that resource nodes are super common at least in Azeroth), but that could have been a factor. Another factor is that lag can cause people to get there first but not appear on another player's screen for 1-2 seconds, in which case both players are seeing red and 100% certain they are right.

In the end though... sh*t happens. ;)
I don't know if haste makes a difference or not, I never heard of that. But I wouldn't be surprise. Don't tauren druids have something like that? Faster herbalism? Still though, it didn't even matter that much to me. If he wasn't such a jerk, I would've given him the ore. So trivial!

@Royi - Oh my god. Is that a real vacuum cleaner? It is CUTE.

Faster to the point that they can steal herbs right out from under you after you've started picking them. :/ It's mostly limited to Uldum and whiptail, but it has the potential to become a particularly nasty bit of abuse for any zone.

In their defense, sometimes players don't load as fast as the herbs do, but you shouldn't be able to drop down, start picking while someone else is picking, and fly away with the herb.

There's a similar issue with worgen skinners following/stealing skins from people in Tol Barad, as well.

I was mining on my little level 52 orc earlier while looking for Deathmaw (FOUND HIM! :D) and I found a truesilver, so I start to mine it, just as a 63 goblin shammy swoops down and starts mining it. I had a similar experience with him calling me a racial slur (that really does not apply to me- lol) in /say before he flew off. I whisper him and said, "I got there first, I got the ore. No reason to be hostile about it." and put him on ignore.

I just don't get people. lol

As for Henry, he will be missed. ;-)

i think thats probably the best thing to do. say one comment briefly and /ignore. then never respond to anything from them ever again. trolls and wanks only have fun cussing you out if you appear to be taking it personal or getting upset.

Poor Henry.

I've had the same problem with a few people on my server. I had one person repeatedly make toons to contact me and I've had to put them all on ignore, but they're lowbies so he'll just make more and keep trying. I finally opened a ticket and had a few friends help me out since they were witnessing it. He was suspended for a bit. He came back and I run into him occasionally in Org. He'll stand by me and I know he's trying to talk to me in /say but I can't see it so a couple people around us will whisper me and tell me he's talking to me. I relay the situation and usually they say they'll report him as well.

Another time I had to open a ticket against someone for harassment was they not only made several alts to talk to me, but they threatened to kill themselves if I didn't let them join my guild. Blizzard definitely takes these things very seriously and I haven't heard anymore from this person thankfully.

Yep, they definitely take it seriously. I got a four hour suspension for kicking a piece of shit rogue from a DM HC run. He sucked, simply, and when we told him to do some damage he started going off about how everyone else sucked. I made the mistake of telling him to go fuck himself, and then he said "reporting u idoit" and left. Ten minutes later I got kicked from the server with a suspension. -.- I guess they didn't look into it. -.-

Anyhow, random rant aside, REPORT IT. They will definitely do something!

Aye, it really pissed me off. When I could get back in I sent in a ticket starting with "hacked" just so it'd get past their filters, and then wrote that I was very disappointed by how they showed absolutely no respect for their customers, and that I had lost a lot of faith in the GMs. Got a chat with a GM a little bit later, and he seemed way sorry, so it turned out okay-ish. Hope they don't do anything too vile to the first lazy-ass GM.

Meh. Sorry to hear that. I once got a 24 hour forum ban. Why?

OP: "I just want to thank all of you GMs on behalf of all us players for what a great job you are doing" :D  :D

Me: "How bout you just speak for yourself, mk?"*

I kid you not.

This is why, when people snicker and say "Reporting is a waste of time - GMs can't do anything about that", I just have to sadly shake my head and sigh. In fact GMs can do just about anything they feel like to you - mainly it just depends on one criteria: whether you've done something to personally piss them off.

*Normally I have a pretty positive attitude about GMs, but A) at the time we were in the middle of a big chunk of unscheduled maintenance, B) I was having a bad day and C) I really don't like it when other people presume to speak for me.

Happens more often than you'd think. A friend tried to argue with a GM over having to do a name change on her main just because some jerk had reported her (that wasn't made him a jerk; his previous actions had already accomplished that), and simply was disconnected by the GM. It's like it never occurs to them that they're being used by jerks.
