A friend of mine tamed The Beast the other day, and we started to wonder "Hey, his ?? level display shows up on Beast Lore as well, not just on hit portrait... I wonder if it affects his chance to be hit?"
So, we tested it (perhaps sloppily, but you be the judge.) The pet had been leveled to 80, my weapon skill was maxed out for the bow I was using, etc.
If we were correct in assuming that a level 80 hunter's pet would require 5% hit rating to be hit capped against it as a fellow level 80, then maintaining a hit rating between 5% and 8% (raid boss hit cap) would be required to test this.
Trying to keep as close to 5% as possible, I stripped off my gear until I was at 5.37% hit chance, turned on my recount, and fired 1600 auto shots into Bob (he took it like a champ).
6 were misses. This would imply that Bob requires MORE than the standard 5% PvP hit cap.
Neither my friend or Bob were specced into anything that would reduce their chance to be hit. HOWEVER, he is a Night Elf, and thusly has [Quickness] (reduces the chance melee and ranged attacks will hit you by 2%). We are unsure if this transferes to the pet for some reason.
Tried the exact same test with a level 80 Bat, no misses. With only 6 misses out of 1600 shots for The Beast, it could have been terrible RNG. If anyone else would be willing to add data to this, we may have in interesting find here! The testing with the bat implies that [Quickness] does not transfer to the pet, and that the hit rating needed for the level 80 bat was 5%, as per usual, unlike what we saw with Bob.
TOTAL THE BEAST DATA:
5.37% hit rating, 1600 shots fired, 6 misses.
TOTAL BAT DATA:
5.37% hit rating, 1600 shots fired, 0 misses.
Any additional testing or input by other hunters would be great. Just get yourself AS CLOSE to 5% hit rating as possible without being UNDER 5%, and go duel your subject- pet on passive, use Viper so they can keep it alive with Mend Pet during the test. Buy some cheap ammo and use the stacks of it to track your shots- buy a stack of 1000 and just shoot til it's all gone. Run Recount, which can track the hits/misses of your auto shot. I also HIGHLY reccomend picking up a very fast ranged weapon for this, even if it's only white quality.
Interesting find on "The Beast" pet
