the reason why I registered and stopped lurking for months
not sure why this hasn't been listed for so long, but I suppose not many have bothered with it
as I've had this guy since 4.0.3

Jeweled Scarab

I'm referring to the ones that spawn during the Earthrager Ptah encounter in Halls of Origination
and not the ones in the hallway leading to him

should you happen to tame this little roach during the encounter, you'll be rewarded with a beetle that suffers a severe identity crisis

That's a great find! It's interesting that there are two entirely different NPCs (with different ids) in the same instance called Jeweled Scarab. The one in the hallway prior to Ptah is colour-stable and is the one that appears on Petopia. The ones that appear during his fight are different. I don't think anyone's reported that before

Ah, nice catch! Yeah, I find a lot of little summoned adds during boss fights don't get checked too carefully for their pet status-- most people are too focused on killing the boss and moving on!

I've always wanted to try that, but a prior situation where I got blasted through a wall and to my death from a long fall prevented me from trying. Awesome to know they can be tamed, but BAH, color changers suck IMO.

how I came about taming it was pretty unusual
I had no initial intentions of taming it

originally I wanted to tame the Purple-Red - Venomous Skitterer in the hall leading to the boss
but as I'm sure you all know, that's much easier said than done for several reasons
-it can't really be cc'd
-it randomly charges every few seconds
-it hits pretty hard
-most pugs are ignorant about what it takes to tame a beast
...or not cooperative
...or don't care

so I'd just decided to stop wasting my time and try to tame the one in the encounter with the same skin
...the color changing seems to be a mood ring of sorts

not sure how, but it's really charmed it's way to being my favorite
and its hard to out-charm a wolf with a sword in its head that made me miss [stood in the fire] by a second because of the petdismiss/log out

Excellent catch! This will make things easier for hunters who absolutely cannot choose between the scarab models.
