Always the wrong one...
Always the wrong one...
Just a bit of venting...
Way back in Vanilla, my hunter was like a magnet for rares. I remember heading out to start camping for Broken Tooth (back when he was a terror in PvP). I went out to the central spot where you could use Eagle Eye to check all 3 of his spawn points. I wasn't sure if I was looking in quite the right spot for one of the spawns, so I went on over to check the cooridinates and, poof, he spawned right next to me.
That sort of luck seems to have abandoned me, though. I end up searching and camping, which I don't mind. Gotta put in some effort to get the rare pets, after all. But the hunt for Krush is really starting to demoralize me. It seems as though, now that Krush is the only rare left on my list, every other rare that I either have or don't particularly want spawns.
For example:
Doing my rounds for Krush a few weeks back, my heart raced when NPC_Scan went off. But it was Loque. Okay, I've already got 2 spirit beasts (Arcturis and Skoll) and don't have stable space to spare, plus I've never really been enamored of Loque's skin. So I call out in guild, and another channel to any hunters who might want 'im. One of my guildies responds that he'd like to tame the fella, so I keep an eye on him til the guildie shows up and gets his first spirit beast. yay!
A day or two later, I'm flying around the Northern Barrens. One of my lower level alts is kind of behind in leveling alchemy, so I'm farming herbs. Hey look! It's Humar! Okay, announced it in a couple channels as well as Local. A young Orc hunter in the zone heads on over, tames the kitty and thanks me. Yay!
Not long after, I head down into Deepholm on my warrior to do dailies and a bit of mining. Jadefang is up! Okay, I already tamed her on the hunter. I wouldn't mind getting the companion pet, but figure I should let a hunter get first dibs. Having the bomb quest, I blast myself over to her cave. As usual, I call out in various channels to any hunters who might want her. Unfortunately an Alliance pally came over and killed her before anyone responded. Ah well.
Last night, I was taking advantage of the recent bot-banwave to actually farm some Twilight Jasmine in the Highlands. As I'm flying along....Sambas. Okay, same old thing: tell folks a rare is up. Didn't hear anything for a while so I went down and tamed the fella just for the heck of it. Of course it means deciding which of my two other cats I may have to let go. Having gotten a few stacks of jasmine, I left the zone for fear I'd come across Karoma.
Thing is, the only rare I'm really hunting now is Krush. I've seen him exactly once since WotLK and that was a couple months ago when I came across his corpse. It's as if I'm doomed to run across every rare spawn in Azeroth before the one I actually want will show up.
Oh, Krush. Whatever did I do to make you hide from me?

Re: Always the wrong one...
I feel your pain.
It took me nearly 40 hours of camping over a period of 2 weeks, after I had already been searching for him off and on for a month. I finally got him and he is COMPLETELY worth it- so keep trying!!!
/casts rare spawn Krush luck goodness dust on you!
Or something like that.

Re: Always the wrong one...
I think part of the problem is that WOW has become such a big place...with so many people. Competition for rares has grown.
Re: Always the wrong one...
There is hardly anyone in Northrend other than TLPD campers and alt levelers though. You might try the TLPD hunter's 'only 4 rares up at once' theory and clean out all the rare spawns up... you never know if it might trigger him to spawn if it's true.
Worthless anecdotal evidence: Krush spawned for me either out of complete blind luck or from me just killing off the 4 rares I'd seen doing a sweep of the other zones.

Awwww! That's nice of you to find homes for all of those rares. You've got some good karma built up!
Just keep at your Krush hunt. Park yourself in Sholazar when you log and check back at random times. You'll get him!

Wishing you some luck in your search for King Krush!
I had the same problem when I was after Peekachoo (my Loque'nahak)... every rare I wasn't actively after showed up, but not the one I wanted most.

Re: Always the wrong one...
Still no Krush. Of course after a long round of hunting the devilsaur on Friday night, I cut across the basin to log out in the 'inn' at Nesingwary's camp and...Aotona. Jeez. I didn't see any hunter friends online so I tamed 'im and did a few more rounds, just in case it caused Krush to spawn. No luck. Um, so now I need a name for the bird. Oh, and it's probably been mentioned somewhere here long ago, but I noticed that Aotona's 'trick' is to...do a whole lot of nothing other than maybe bobbing his head. I kinda expected a loop like the seagulls do.
Saturday, I started taking a break now and then. I'd do a sweep for Krush, then head down to the icebergs in Borean and shoot some penguins then head back up to the basin. Doing the icebergs from one end to the other nets about 200 penguins. After knocking off 1100 or so of the birds, I mentioned my tally in guild chat. That prompted one of our DK's to head to the snake boss area in ZG to join in the fun. At the end of the night, I'd killed over 3000 penguins and my guild now has our cute armadillo pup companions.
But still no Krush for me.

*sends you some Krush lovin*
I farm SB every single day, and I have seen and homed 3 Krushes over the past 3 weeks.
That guy seems to love me.
Maybe it's because the first time I ever saw him he knocked me off my mount and killed me while I was tabbed out working.
I swear I can almost see him snickering at me to this day.

Oh heck, I've seen 3 Loque's now. One I found a home for, one had just been killed, and one was in the process of being tamed by another hunter.Pawtrack wrote:WTT Krush luck for Loque luck plz!

Re: Always the wrong one...
Make that four Loques, and a myriad of the more 'common' rares around the world (Humar, The Rake, Takk, etc.). I swear I can probably fly around the Basin checking his patrol areas with my eyes closed now.
Perhaps I'm just using the wrong strategy. I generally wait at one end of one of his spawn/patrol areas and then make a round over all 3 every 5 or 10 minutes. Lately, though, I've been circling them almost continuously so that I can load up on the herbs that are on or near 'em. At least that lets me make anywhere from 200 to 500 gold a night by dumping them dirt cheap on the auction house.
