respec and BM pets

G'day folks,

This might have already been asked a multitude of times, but I'm going to be the annoying git who asks it again!

I play a BM hunter and won't change. I suffer from a chronic case of pixel lust with Arcturis and am not going to lose him. Not to mention that every time I pug I get 1 or 2 comments as to how cool he looks. Aaaaand another bonus is that playing on Caelestrasz/Oceania I've not seen anyone else with Arcturis before at all. I've read a post on at least 1 other person with Arcturis, but havent seen him.

...But I digress...

I'm wanting to respec my build, just to tweak a few things in my talent choices. However, in clicking the respec option means that, for a minute or so, I wont have the beastmaster talent! ...What happens to our wonderful beastmastery-required pets during that time? ...Are they instantly lost to the void? Or are they just temporarily unselectable?

You might suggest me going with a dualspec choice instead, but I'm thinking of the financial implications here - 1000 gold for dualspec versus 1 gold for a respec. I'd do the respec!

It may unfortunately mean that I either pay the small fortune and dualspec in order to not lose the BM pets I have in my stable, but I figure better to ask here first.

Well first off, you still keep Exotics, you just can't have them summoned/at your side until you regain the talent. Secondly, if you're still looking at specs and the like, may I suggest the Hell-Hole of Excellent Info?

As Gimlion said, when you click respec, your current pet is dismissed. If you spec back into the bottom BM talent, you just Call Pet and he'll come back. If you spec into another tree or forget to grab the exotics talent, you'll be stuck unable to call your exotic pet (and unable to stable it and grab a non-exotic) until you either respec again or dual spec and grab the BM talent.

If you spec into another tree or forget to grab the exotics talent, you'll be stuck unable to call your exotic pet (and unable to stable it and grab a non-exotic) until you either respec again or dual spec and grab the BM talent.

Actually you CAN stable it... you just can't remove it from the stable afterwards unless you spec back into the 51-point talent.

You won't lose your pet, it's just dismissed until you're qualified to summon it again, in other words until you grab the 51-point talent.

Think of it this way.

As a BM hunter, you have the 51 pt talent "Tame Exotics".
As an MM hunter, you have the 51 pt talent "Chimera Shot".

Switching from MM to BM, you don't still get to use the Chimera Shot. You still "know" it, you just don't have it in your arsenal. Exotic pets that you have tamed go to your stable.

In fact, WHENEVER you switch specs, your pet is automatically Dismissed (NOT to be confused with Abandoned) and must be re-summoned (using the whistle if you can use them in your current spec) OR going to a stable master OR for those of us who are 80, using "Call Stabled Pet".
