Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

So thats my report on

I tamed The Razza, because he's the only model with this skin at the moment. He only has one spawn point in Feralas east of New Talanaar (the point on the wowhead map is wrong). He dont fly long ways around, he's only at that spot. Dead gnolls lay around him, maybe he killed them?

He's very big, so you can't overseen him there. Silverdragon goes crazy before i could see him myself.

After the tame was done, i turned back to SW, ran a bit around with him in Elwynn.
I really like the Effect of Frost Breath. A blue icy Lightning that slows the target for 5 secs.

And his other ability, Froststormbreath, a AoE attack that causing 8 secs damage to all enemies within 7yd. I think that attack also looks stylish and both abilities fits his chilly skin.

It seems he doesn't like swimming. He flaps his wings hasty, no smooth swim animation. Like he would said 'Wtf i'm a flying pet, not a fish, i want the hell out of here'

Now we went to MC with my boyfriend to farm the Thunderfury bindings. Ruan (the name i give him) had some fun with 2 Corehounds who attacked him both in front and behind. He killed the first one by himself, but i'm helped him with the second one, before he melts away

We also killed Garr with him, he has done a great job. But to make this post not to image heavy, i don't post more MC pictures.
All in all he's a very nice looking and conspicuous pet, but the only thing i dont like on chimeras are their wingspan. He constantly hit me with his wings

If my report are okay, i would try another pet:

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

I must say, it was not love at the first sight when i first saw a picture of him. I didn't found him very spectacular, just a lion. Yea he was a new model. but he was still just a lion, not that special like a spirit beast. But... one day, i feel like i want to tame something, i decided for a cat for my SV spec, because of Roar of Courage buff. First i tamed a Frostsaber, but i dont really clicked with him. I abandoned him, and thought i could fly a few rounds through the Twilight Highlands, maybe i have the luck and the rare lion was there? I search a cat, why not a unique, new cat? I do a few laps over his spawnpoints but nothing, logged off, logged in at the evening, and yay, there he was. He was smaller as i thought.

I have no infos about his spawntimer and on which point he spawns the most. For me he spawned over Thundermaar. I tamed him quick, freezing trap was not necessary because he dont hit hard while taming. And now, he was beside me, i named him Kovu, after Kovu from the second Lion King movie. I think he still not look like a very conspicious and special pet, despite that, or perhaps because of that he is some kind of special. Just a beautiful dark blonde - brown lion, no ghost / spirit pet, no color changer, just a beautiful, superb lion with a unique skin and a realisitic color.
Like all cats, he has the Roar of Courage, which increasing the strengh and agility of all group members by 549 within 100yd. I think this is a very usefull ability. Other abilities are Claw, which causes melee damage and Prowl, what the cat makes almost invisible and slows the movement speed by 50%. First attack from stealth receives a 20% bonus damage.

His swim animation is smooth, but he looks not amused while swimming. I think because of kitties are known for that they dont like water

In Uldum he can meets his brothers / twins, the Salhet Lions, they currently not tameable. And in SW he meets his daddy, the armored Alliance lion.

So that was my report on Sambas / Kovu. Hope you enjoy! I like him, he like me, although i think he's just not a absolutely extraordinary looking pet. Sometimes he stare at me as if he would said something like 'Look at you, there thousand spacegoats out there who look similar to you, and you think i'm not extraordinary? at least i'm unique!' ... Yea he really is, isn't he? *pets his kitty*

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

I was questing in Uldum when I got the call for a yellow hyena. I saw that there was an unconfirmed spawn at the end of an escort up in Desolace, and being on the same continent, I figured that'd be closest and started heading there. Then, getting stuck on a tree in Feralas, I realized that Dire Maul was a lot closer and abandoned my heroic impulse for the easier, guaranteed tame :P

I had a better taming screenshot but chose this one because it illustrates one of the many issues I have with the hyena model: Hyenas (in the real world) are known for their powerful jaws, whereas in-game, their jaws are just flat-out unhinged!

Choosing a name for a pet before getting to know them is quite difficult for me; their personality is likely to be influenced by their name if the one comes before the other, and a name I don't really like or which doesn't fit will affect how much I end up liking or not liking the pet. And with that in mind, meet Chell; named after the protagonist of the single-player portion of my current rabid fangirling, Portal 2 (gimmegimmegimmegimme!). It occurred to me later that the name sort of doubly-fit; back in Classic (and later in Wrath for a brief period of time), there was a rogue in my guild named Chellbin, nicknamed and later shortened to Chell. I try to avoid naming pets after actual people because it gets confusing, but as Chell-hyena is yellow and provides a bleed debuff, and Chell-rogue was, well, a rogue (with bleeds and a yellow-named class), it works (though I often found myself unsure of my hyena's gender)! Though the yellow hyena is not native to Uldum, the Vir'nal Oasis seems especially fitting for the breed.

Hyena models have several problems. Overall, I quite like the look of their head from the upper jaw to the ear; the ears are slightly rounded and wide set, the eyes are black with a bright shine, and the fur texture on the eyebrows is quite nice. That's about all I can say that's nice about them, though. Their lower bodies are a dark, grey-brown that makes it look like they were swimming around in a mud-puddle (with the dirty reputation hyenas have earned over the millenia, maybe they have!) and, combined with the odd offset nature of their lower jaw and their 2D teeth (which, to be fair, aren't THAT bad on their own) reminds me of a stubbled, half-shaved, potbellied underworld dweller. The crest of hair along their backs is also a 2D texture, and suffers from some pretty savage pixellation. Finally, their paws are quite large, which I usually find entrancing, but in this case, they feel more like hooves, especially from the sides, and the wrists and ankles change sizes as the model goes through its various animations—sometimes normal, but often incredibly thin and flimsy looking.

Chell has both a distinct walking animation and a running animation, similar (identical?) to those of wolves, coyotes, and foxes. He couldn't seem to decide whether she wanted to walk by my side or jog ahead when I was walking, though thankfully she kept to her run animation when the run/walk toggle wasn't invoked. Her swimming animation is a doggy-paddle, and doesn't change much between idle and moving, though it was while swimming forward I first noticed her magical circumference-confused ankles. It's also worth mentioning that while swimming, Chell's jaw is in the right location! Hooray for swimming!

There are two distinct attack animations for hyenas, neither of which I was able to succesfully screencap, though you can see the direction via the remnants of Dash here. First, they lunge forward to bite, and second they jump... well I guess "lunge" works here too, but it's a much more vertical action, with their front two paws temporarily leaving the ground. I did not notice any additional animations for Tendon Rip.
Speaking of Tendon Rip, this is the ability they provide as their special. It's a 30% bleed damage increase for 15 seconds, with a 10 second cooldown. As BM with longevity, they can apply it to two targets with 100% uptime, though it does not appear that they do so without prompting. The three major classes that most rely on bleed damage for their DPS bring the Mangle debuff on their own (feral druids, arms warriors, subtlety rogues), though there are some classes (marksmen, fury warriors, prot warriors, am I missing one? Oh well :P) that do not, so if you don't have one of those three Mangle-classes—or yours has a nasty habit of standing in Optional Fire™—and you have other buffs/debuffs covered, a hyena would be a good choice in a dungeon or raid. There are two other pets that offer the bleed debuff—boars and rhinos—though these are both Tenacity pets so if you're really absolutely dead-set on eking out every single half-point of damage you can, hyenas are Ferocity and thus the "best choice."

I went Marksman for a brief period of time while testing Chell, to kite Myzerian around in circles so I could get my three free blue-quality gems from the quest he drops upon death. Chell got herself killed quite quickly, even without growl on (I think!), and I can't decide if this is because I'm bad at MM and wasn't pumping the deeps, if I actually forgot to turn Growl off, or because she relished watching me run around in circles for a good ten minutes in a spec I'm unfamiliar with, without her extra dps and without the time to rez her. (Pic partially unrelated; Chell's death here was the result of me not dismissing her to go sneak around and sabotage powder kegs, so the mobs all saw her and would body aggro. I did discover Myzerian a) can't be feigned off and b) can be frozen, which made me giggle uncontrollably.)

Overall, Chell and I didn't get along very well. Her colouring didn't impress me, nor begin to make up for the model flaws I couldn't get around. She was prone to dying, her special ability did nothing for me as BM hunter and nothing for her, and I found that even against single targets (she has no AoE threat ability), when she and I were both the same level I would occasionally pull aggro (to be fair to her, this might be because I'm now 84 and thus doing closer to "average 85 damage" compared to 82 and 83 where I was usually only 20% of my pet's threat on a mob, regardless of pet level equity or what-have-you). I thought she might enjoy romping about the fields of the Twilight Highlands, since it's so pretty there.

... I think I was wrong, because not two minutes after I released her back into the wilds, Darémyth and I got dogpiled (TEEHEE) by a bunch of Highland Worgs that came out of nowhere. Amongst the high-pitched squeakings of my shale spider and the growls of the pack, surely there was a snickering off in the distance D:

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

My slow butt has finally gotten Venjin's croc report done.

Looks:

This little guy actually looks pretty decent, color-wise next to Venjin (top left). The old world crocs sit low to the ground (as a croc should), this guy is a mix of various greens, yellows, and white (top right). His belly is white, his legs are a yellow-green, the yellow-green blends upwards into a darker, aqua tinted green, and his tail is striped green and white (bottom right). He has yellow eyes and teeth and the chinese dragon-esque whiskers.
The croc skeleton seems to have some skeletal issues on the back feet (bottom left two). A closer look at the head of this guy shows that where it meets the body is a little blurry and low res looking (bottom middle). The teeth are 3-D but the whiskers are very 2-D and flat textured. They're also static and don't move independently of the body.
Animations and Sounds:

The old world crocs are very noisy, they make hissing noises while idle and they make loud hissing and snapping sounds in combat. Crocs have a couple of idle animations; they spend most of their time wagging their tail and shifting their body weight (top left) and sometimes they snap their heads from side to side (top middle). When they run they sort of wriggle quickly, which causes their back to look like it's breaking (top right, bottom left). They look at home in the water though, using that big tail like a rudder in the water (bottom right).
Combat:

Crocolisks have a couple of different attack animations. They lunge and bite (middle right) and they swing and bite (middle left). They're tenacity pets so they won't kill your DPS, but they won't do as much damage as a ferocity or cunning pet. They also have access to Thunderstomp (top right).
The crocolisk special is Ankle Crack (reduced movement speed by 50%) (bottom). This ability is fabulous for soloing, chasing down runners, and in PvP. I don't go far without my crocs anymore, especially on SV hunters. Ankle Crack lets you unload all you want into your target with the reassurance that it'll be dead before it reaches you. It's also a handy ability to have around to keep runners from getting too far in a dungeon, or to kite that pesky melee in PvP.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

These guy can only be found in Maraudon (Desolace), but they're NOT inside of Maraudon, they're actually found outside. My boyfriend helped me to get one because i never had found them myself lol, because i'm not familiar with this Instance. Took us a while to realize that they are not inside the instance where wowhead says. Some of the worms are look more greenish, but this is because of the incidence of light there, they're all the same color. I'd never tamed a worm before, because i never really bond with them. As tank-pet i use a turtle, and most of the time i'm SV too. But... this little guy has such a cute face, he smiles all the time, he gives you the feeling he's really happy to be your comrade and being on your side. Very charming!

He's not that much detailed like the northrend jormungars... but, can you stand that friendly face?

He's a good tank-pet, i took him with me to Kara, and he can / could easily doing a group of enemies solo, without taking much damage (and sometimes it looks he taking 0 damage

His swim animation is very elegant. He swims like a eel or something. I think he likes swimming and his bluish color fits the water.

So thats my report on that guy. Now i think i will get a worm for me, not sure of the color, but they just cute

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]

Looks:

Although this guy's colors match Daliah, I just really don't like the demon dogs because their model is so flawed (top left). Plus, I don't think he's very suiting to a night elf.
It's sort of weird how muscular these guys are and how they don't seem to have fur, despite being called dogs. Looking at them from the front, they look kind of boxy in the chest area and their face is meh (top right). The other thing that bugs me with them is how big their feet look compared to their body and legs.
Those horns on the top of their head look pretty tacky as well. Their ears also look strange as does their painted on, paper thin mane of hair (bottom left). All in all, a lot of low res texturing. And perhaps one of the goofiest things about these guys is how their hock is terribly skinny compared to the rest of their muscular bodies (middle left) and how thick their front legs are (top middle).
Animations and Sounds:

And so here's one of the biggest flaws in the demon dogs--when they go to do their idle, the puppy hop, their faces distort into the ugliest of animations (left). I'm truly baffled as to how Blizzard could let something so gross looking make it through.
At least the demon dog run is really cute to watch (bottom right), and their swim is to be desired since they just walk underwater (top right). As for sounds, these guys make a demonic like growling noise while they're in combat.
Combat:

Dogs have three basic attack animations, and as you can see, their models do some pretty ugly contortioning. First is the jump and bite (top right), the duck and bite (bottom right), and the paw swipe (top left).
Dog's special ability, Lock Jaw, is a channeled snare (or is it a root? I get them confused sometimes). Lock Jaw can be useful in both PvE and PvP although it's a burden for BM hunters as Kill Command will override the channel of the ability. Now this doesn't mean I'm saying it's useless or unusuable, I'm just saying that it requires micro-managing and a lot more prep. For MM and SV hunters, while soloing, Lock Jaw will allow you to unload on an enemy without having to worry about it attacking you (providing it's a melee). I'm still not a huge fan of the ability just because it's channeled, but Cialbi made a report on either these guys or a crab that made me rethink the way the ability works. Also, these guys are ferocity pets so that means they'll do great damage while they're not channeling Lock Jaw--which is another thing to keep in mind. If you're actually trying to keep aggro on your pet, the dog will not cast anything else while using Lock Jaw which also means they're not generating threat.
More please.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
Anyway, the gorilla was very easy to find. There are tons of them in Stranglethorn.

First things first, this gorilla is HUGE. Almost as tall as my troll! He's very solidly built and actually somewhat appealing at first glance. His colors are a soft off-white and an orange-pink, with pretty ice blue eyes.
I was put off by a few things, though. First off, his fingers. They're very thick and blocky, the back ones completely flattened, the front ones broken strangely so they'll curl into fists. The back feet remind me of thinly stuffed felt toys, flat with features just stuck on top.
His face is pretty ugly, but I can live with that. His teeth are 2D however, and his facial hair looks odd. Who knew gorillas had half a goatee and stringy mutton chops? Bleh, it's really not well animated and looks very nasty.
His idles are played extremely often. There are three of them - one where he just shifts his weight, which is fine. The other two are much larger and more often used. He rears up and pounds on his chest for one, which would be fine if he didn't have a Beer Belly To End All Beer Bellies. His other is to scratch his butt, which has a very large and obvious crack. Luckily fur covers it up pretty well. Still, the buttscratch really isn't that great, especially with his expression of relief that he takes on whenever he uses that idle. >.<
I noticed that his hands cut through his fur when he uses the chest pound idle, too. It's not terribly obvious, but it's there.

His animations are fairly nice overall. Running is well done, with a bit of a sideways gait. He has three different attacks, one to rear up and hit the enemy with both fists, one to backhand the enemy, and one to punch the enemy. I assume enemies wouldn't like him, because being backhanded by a gorilla can't be fun.
His swim animations are... not so nice. They're kind of disturbing. He hovers in the water all splayed out, and swims by moving his limbs in some strange way that looks just wrong. I don't know how to explain it other than strange.
Anyway. In battle, he's a good tank (Tenacity) and a fairly good DPS pet. His special is an interrupt/silence. I did a bit of experimenting and he does in fact smartcast, so you can leave that ability on. A pretty good pet, really.
Overall, I do kind of like Gorillas, but this skin is a little lackluster to me and I won't keep him. Some day I might get a red or silver gorilla, but not at the moment.

Re: Random Pet Challenge [v3.0]
I'll have my report on the white turtle done soon.
I have to say, this girl was a pain to get. My other option was a beetle, which I didn't particularly like, so I took the journey out to Bloodmyst Isle to get a ravager.
I named her Iliad, after Homer's epic poem. After nearly dying to fatigue, almost being shot down by Darnassus sentinels, and playing dead on a boat, I thought the name suited her.
I didn't think I'd end up getting too attached to Iliad, but she's grown on me. :3 Ravager models are clean and have no flaws that I noticed, and are brightly coloured, exotic looking critters.
They're not as loud as a tallstrider, but have a unique call. It almost sounds like a mix between a hiss and a roar, and while attacking, they remind me of an alien disguised as a woman shrieking as she tears away the human disguise. :'D
They're clearly insects, but I think they could possibly be reptillian as well. Ravagers only eat meat, though based on how they look, I think that's pretty obvious.
Ravagers are in the cunning family and have a pretty unique special ability. It's called Ravage, ironically, and it increases physical damage taken by an enemy by 4% for 25 seconds. I'm not sure if hunter abilities count as "physical" damage, but Iliad's utility was much appreciated by the warrior and paladin DPS in my group.
I didn't notice much of a change in dps between her and my raptor, Lakkari, though I think even before she had caught up to me in level, Iliad was doing slightly higher damage.
Ravager idle animations are pretty standard. Iliad sways a little bit while she's standing, and occasionally turns her head to raise her quills and growl at something. Most likely a squirrel or a leaf, as my guess would be that ravagers don't have the best eyesight, judging by the size of them. They seem like a creature that relies more on smell and perhaps feeling around with her legs.
Ravagers are quick on their feet and lean forward while running, though keep themselves upright when they're walking normally. Their quills also lay a little flatter while running, presumably to increase speed. She makes a small noise when she runs as well, I can't put my finger on what to call it, but it's a bit squeaky and reminds me strongly of insects.
Almost like an alien raptor, ravagers are cunning and ruthless in battle, biting and tearing at foes with their powerful clawed feet and fangs.
I noticed three distinct attack animations for Iliad- a lunging bite, clawing with her front legs, and a jumping attack where she does a flip midair. I assume this attack is relating to stabbing enemies with her quills, but I could be wrong.
Though their swim animation is pretty clean too, ravagers look a bit out of place in the water, In my opinion at least, they clearly weren't built for water travel. (I also don't think I've ever seen wild ravagers living near water).
It's a very cute animation, though.

Overall, I'm glad I chose Iliad over the beetle, and I'll definitely be keeping her. 8D
I'm not sure how much actual use she'll see, but I'll probably end up keeping her with me when I'm doing dungeons, and use her if the group has more physical than spellcaster dps.
