Oh, hey. This actually benefits me. I can harvest heirlooms off characters my parents don't play. Steal their tasty, tasy heirlooms. And really, we only have to buy heirlooms between all of us to make sure we have all the classes.

Assuming I'm reading that right. Yay for different accounts.

Boo, still have to level my baby priest over on Nesingwary sans heirlooms. :C

Ah well, I did it with a hunter, I can do it with a priest...and then a warlock...and then a druid. /shakefist

oh you crazy kids.

Its somewhat funny that I refuse to level a character without having heirlooms for it now (have a plate set, have dps leather set, have caster cloth set (all you basically need). I dont know what I did before heirlooms existed. Anyone else like this?

Provided your parents' accounts are on the same battle.net as yours and their characters on the same server, feel free to harvest away.

Royi: I only prefer heirlooms mostly for the Outlands and Northrend content as I find it a bit tedious now that they've revamped the 1-60 stuff. If I have em, I'll wear em for 1-60 as well just because of the boosted stats you gain, but I haven't minded too much about leveling my non-heirloom characters.

I dont mind WOTLK areas of leveling, but yeah I'll agree Outland is tedious. I like the Mag'har Questline and also I dont mind....... yeah.....um........ the Mag'har Questline... wait.. did I say that already? :)

drats, and here I was hoping that the stockpile of heirlooms that I am getting with extra JP would finally be able to get sent over to Nessingwary without having to fork over money for a character transfer...

I've been running two accounts for quite a while now (since when they first announced the revamped RAF with the mount reward). I'm really happy about this change; I've been wanting this to happen for some time. I guess I'm in the weird minority, but...
Pent wrote:The only reason to EVER have another account that has characters on your main account's servers is for the RAF program... everything else is just stupid. (Well...unless I am not thinking of something that is "cool" about doing it...) :P
There are many reasons to have multiple accounts with characters on the same server, actually, among which:
  • You're out of character space on a specific server on the one account (for whatever reason)
  • You want to be able to run your own alts through difficult quests, instances, whatever (any decently modern computer can run two WoW clients at the same time)
  • You play the AH a lot, and you want to be able to keep monitoring the AH no matter what you're doing on your main (raiding, instancing, whatever)
  • And speaking of the AH - if you play both factions on the same server, or you're simply buying things cheap on the lower-populated faction to resell them for more gold on the higher-populated faction, you can move things cross-faction by yourself, without needing to bug a friend (again, running two WoW clients at the same time)
Personally, I run two accounts, set up like so:

(Account 1) Main [85 feral druid tank], alt#1 [83+ tankadin], alt#2 [85 disc priest], secondary bank alt, other-faction purchaser alt
(Account 2) Alt#3 [85 hunter], alt#4 [70+ hunter], alt#5 [85 warlock], alt#6 [80+ mage], alt#7 [80+ death knight], primary bank alt (runs my storage guildbank, does most of my AHing, etc), plus a bunch of sub-60 alts.

The tankadin is on my main account because I leveled her through RAF with my boyfriend as a tank/healer pair in instances (and I did RAF from my main account for obvious mount-for-my-main reasons); after we hit 60 and the extra RAF xp went byebye, he moved his RAF'd character to his main account and kitted it out with heirlooms - at which point I did the same, and we carried on leveling together at the same pace.

The priest is there because I wanted to level 1-85 purely as a healer, mostly through instances, and I wanted heirlooms to make my life easier. She might get moved to the second account at some point, simply so I can heal myself through various old content when my boyfriend (whose main is a healer) is not available.

Neither character needed a runthrough at any point, unlike my DPS alts, so they never got moved.

For me, this change means (among other things):
  • I can buy heirlooms with my main (who is drowning in JP and, as a tank, can very quickly farm up more, as opposed to my lone 85 on the second account) and send them to characters on the second account (in other words, I no longer have to choose between having heirlooms and being able to run myself through quests and instances on my DPS alts)
  • I can send the heirloom ring I won from the Northrend fishing competition to the second account (would be kinda hard to re-get on the other account, as it's very RNG)
  • I can free up a character slot for my main account, as I no longer need a bank alt in the storage guild to be able to instantly send myself items
  • If I'm raiding and I'm running out of consumables, I don't need to relog twice anymore to buy extras from the AH - I can just launch a second copy of WoW, buy stuff with my bank alt, drop it in the mail to my main and ask somebody for an engineering mailbox.
I'm really hoping they do something similar for Archaeology-based account-bound items. I dig on my main (for achievement reasons), but so many of the items I dig up could be very useful for a baby alt... but they're account bound, and again I'd have to pick between having the items and being unable to run myself through stuff.

Come to think of that, I'd love it if they did this for account-bound pets, too. My main account has Tyrael's Hilt, my second account doesn't...

I would assume they count, since there's nothing in the original post that specifically states that it's only the heirlooms, just "specific bind on account items." I don't have a second account tied to my bnet account (don't have the money), but the major reason I've never really taken to other servers is because all my BoA items from the Beforehand Days™ (that is, before they decided to just mail new characters a new copy of a BoA item—Murky, Tyrael, the Big Blizzard Bear, the Murloc Suit, plus the anniversary pets like the Baby Blizzard Bear or the Onyxian Whelpling or whatever) are stuck on Bloodscalp, and it's a double-edged sword; if I could find the money to transfer all those items to a new server, I'd have them for the characters on the new server, but I'd ALSO have a new character slot back on Bloodscalp that wouldn't! And I know for a fact that I would never ever play that extra character slot, because I love my BoA pets and vanity items too much :(

This is completely worthless to me and probably the bulk of players who only have one account but feel trapped on one server.

I understand everything said in that post but my question is though, why would one person want 2 active accounts at the same time? I mean this for average people who cant pay blizz a few hundred dollars for a 6month subscript to keep those two-- or more running lol..

i also question why two different people would want to merge their accounts to the same battle.net.. like, what happens if you and your partner merge accounts but then something happens and your no longer together? Emails may be different but passwords are the same, to my knowledge at least and so the one who controls the battle.net can thus control both accounts and the person who doesnt have that control just lost their account, all their characters, and a buncha money since they gotta re-buy all the games and hope that an attempted char transfer of all their characters from their old account works and he can get them all back.

This switching heirlooms across battle.nets is pretty nice but i fail to see its usefulness. Like, your not going to spend a months subscription on an account just to grab a piece or two of BoA gear on your expired account so you can trade them over to your currently running account unless you are really desparete for that gear or you feel quite comfortable financialy to spend that money for an account you arent even using rather then using that money to do something or buy something in the real world.

And yes i have had 3 accounts, two are bound to my battle.net and one i gave to a close friend since i didnt have any toons of interest on it and wasnt using.. i did have a lingering subscript on the two accounts i kept which i used to my advantage so i can see why for those of you who do spend tons of money keeping your accounts alive but it still fails to register with me for the majority of blizz players who probably dont keep more then one account going at once.

There are people out there who pay for five or more accounts at once, and they don't feel it's wasted. Whatever your feelings on dual/quad boxing, there are people who have the money and can justify spending it.

On a lot of servers, there are also people who sell time cards for gold (and people who get time cards for free/"free"/discounted/"discounted"). I wouldn't ever pay for gold (and not only because I can't afford it, lol) but I've got guildies who would/do, and at least I know that they're getting legitimate gold by buying it from guildies for time, and not hacking other people's accounts or whatever :x So I mean, if you play the AH well enough to make lots of gold, and then give that gold to someone who's willing to pay for your account(s) for you, you're really only spending the time you're playing the AH, which you'd have been doing anyway.

I think, as was said earlier, this is just a precursor to cross-realm BoAs. I'm still not sure if heirlooms will happen, but I think the vanity items will. We'll see when the patch comes out, though.

I just hope that they will take this to the next step and impliment cross server BoA transfers for items. Maybe they are taking this as the first step to see how it works before preperation for the mass BoA migration of 2012.

Someone asked if they ever planned on adding in something to allowe heirlooms to be sent cross server for the "ask the devs" thing they do! The response was basically they want to do it and are planning on it but it takes a lot of work. Hopefully we seen this sooner rather than later :) If someone could link the source I would be grateful! I cant copy/paste on my phone. You should be able to find it on the official foirums or MMO Champ using their blue post tracker. I swear I'm not crazy! :D

Currently on blizzards website their post on saying they're now Bound on Battle.net or whatever is in Red which means its most likley going to change so its unknown if this is actually going to happen or not... off note, almost everything new for the hunters is also Red (faaak you blizz dont you pull back and continue to let the players who dont know how to play ruin our good name).
