Old apperance buff pets.

Unread post by Huntard »

I've made a new hunter alt ( ran out of stables ) and wanted to get a few of these. Having an issue with my macro tho, did the method change? Or is it now fully fixed? Thanks in advance.

To my knowledge it hasnt been fixed since its the computer generated command to abandon a pet. Did you make sure its typed right? I believe its /Script PetAbandon ()

It can take you one try or a hundred tries to be honest and you need to exit and re-enter the game to see and use the pet. Ive had the trouble where i tame the pet and i can still keep taming pets (in reality the tame was a success, it just remained in my Call Pet and didnt show its little thumbnail showing it in its slot).. i ended up with a few Oil-Stained Wolfs by the time i was done that way lol

It will take many, many, many tries, with hours spent doing nothing but taming and mashing a button. Or, it may take one try (I'm not exaggerating; I have had both excellent luck and abysmal luck). It's just a matter of finally managing to cause the game to glitch; if you try enough times, then the odds are that one of those times will finally work.

I don't know if there's a clear correlation between lag and ease of pulling off one of these tames. I wouldn't bother trying to tweak it; just take a break and try later if you are getting frustrated.

Just spam the macro when taming is almost done, and I mean SPAM. I always get the tame after one try like that. Tame a pet normally, dismiss (NOT abandon), then do the macro on what you want to tame. Afterwards, abandon the junk pet. Doable, but you just gotta hit it at the right time. Spamming the button makes it so much more likely.

Two pet slots.

Tame the pet normally in the first slot, DISMISS (not abandon) it.

Tame the second using abandon-macro.

Buff pet get!

I had trouble getting it to work at first, then I found out how to make it work 9/10 tries.

All you have to do is make a successful, normal, tame first. Doesn't have to be the same pet you want, just tame anything then dismiss it (not abandon).
Then go tame the appearance buff pet you want, spam the macro when the tame is nearly finished.

If the pet vanishes upon taming without any sort of flying/running/slithering animations as it fades then congratulations. Log out and back in to recieve your pet.

Note that you do not need to only have the last two empty slots or any other of the things I've seen suggested. You can even tame multiple with no problems.
I only had three slots when I went touring the world collecting what I could, but I could tame two special pets each time. With 'Call Pet 5' you could tame up four before having to drop off at the stables.
Just make sure that you dismiss your normal tame pet and re-tame something before each attempt at an appearence buff pet. Logging out and back in will make all the pets appear at once.

I've heard that repeatedly, but it's *never* made a difference for me (taming a 'normal' pet first).

Please correct me if I am mistaken, but isn't it now a permaban-able violation of Blizzard's ToS to use the /script petabandon macro to keep buff skins?

I just reactivated my Hunter on Saturday after ~7 months of inactivity and have been researching new rare pets to add to my collection, stumbling across the link to The Lone Hunter via Wowhead ( http://www.wowhead.com/npc=45450#comments ) in the process; I followed a link in the comments to http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7082 (Griffley's guide to buff skin tamable mobs on this very forum) and read through it. There was a great deal of debate about the legitimacy of using the macro-tame method and culminated in posts by zedxrgal stating that "Using this taming method is now against Blizzard's TOS and if you're caught Blizzard will take action against you which could include a permanent ban." (See the last post on Page 7) and by Griffley stating that

"I am reviving this thread for a Reason,
Appearently the fix only fixed the Macro taming method. the others are still intact.
we tamed oil birds and ghost carrions today successfully with their original methods."

That was posted on January 13, 2011, but the posts in this thread are all from yesterday and today. Has something changed in the interim that makes it OK to use the macro to tame pets with buff skins, or what?

Thanks in advance for clarifying!
