Question about the oil-covered hawk/wolf

Unread post by Gulnarr »

From what I've heard, taming "glitch pets" like the flaming boar is fine, and not bannable, because they don't bring any bonus stats or abilities, as opposed to blighthounds. Well, I recently tamed both oil-covered pets, and I heard that they have some kind of debuff placed on their target, called something like, "covered in oil." I sent my wolf at a nearby robot to see if the debuff would be applied, and it looked like the robot had it for a short moment, but I lost target by mistake, so wasn't sure if I actually saw it. I sent the wolf at several other enemies after that one, and never saw the debuff come up again. Do the oily pets keep this extra ability, and could I get banned for using one?

the oil 'debuff' to which you refer is what gives the oil stained wolf and hawk its black and smoking color. the ability applies to the pet only, although the effect IS lost upon entering arena, but NOT lost upon entering a battleground, raid or instance. as far as i know, they are not a bannable offense due to the fact they do not give you an advantage over another player. i am not positive, but from what i understand the way they are obtained is up for debate.

I'm not talking about the debuff on the wolf itself, I'm talking about the debuff that the wolf places on its target called Oily Coat, which reduces its hit by 20%. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=50280. I doubt it would work on bosses of any kind, but still, it's technically an advantage over other wolves because they don't have the ability. Assuming the oily wolf can still use it after being glitch-tamed, which is what I'm trying to find out.

Don't think they use that debuff when they are tamed.

I have one and I never noticed it using that ability after tame. Not sure how to confirm it though. Maybe someone can help?

in months, my hawk and wolf never used that ability.
Im just saying.

It seems really unlikely to me though :/ since their appearence is not washed off so they keep the buff after dissapearing, but their abilities are changed though, they get the wolf abilities, and the bird gets its birdy stuff.

If yours really does, maybe screenshot it? Id love to see it :O
good luck!

oh and PS: you wont get banned, its a visual we all used for ages and we spoke to alot of GMs.

My Wolf has never applied this buff that I have noticed and I have used him a fair amount for questing and dungeons. I will make it a point to pay closer attention however. Just in case.

it may have been a left-over from the original coding of the npc that didnt 'erase' when it was tamed. i have 3 of the critters on toons. 1 tamed via alliance way, 1 via death, 1 via 'pet abandon macro' and none of them have ever displayed this ability that you describe. and i have quested, raided, instanced and battleground with them extensively.
be wary of yours if it does, as it gives you an advantage over other players and that i think can get you into trouble.

be careful how you word this to new hunters! rated battlegrounds DO remove the effects, just as if you went into an arena. regular battlegrounds are the ones that do not remove appearance buffs. :)
