A Tank for my Troll?
With 4.1's change to his hydra, however, he won't be a tank for long. At the moment he still has all his Tenacity talents, oddly, but they will inevitably be removed. This means that I will need another tank!
Here's my problem - I have no idea what kind of pet to tame. He's level 82, and his armory here shows his appearance.
Thoughts on the different Tenacity pets -
Bears are nice. I don't really like how they move, but they're... well, nice. I usually reserve bears for small races, though, as they seem too small on the larger races.
Beetles... I've always had trouble bonding with beetles. They seem a little less alive to me.
Boars are very nice, and quite appealing appearance wise. Flaming boars and ghost boars are always a possibility.
Crabs have a pretty nice appearance, though the new ones seem dead to me. I find their special to be useless.
Crocolisks are a bit boring to me, and I never could make use of their special, as a BM hunter at least.
Gorillas are unappealing after a while. Their constant butt-scratching is a bit gross. They are a very nice solid pet otherwise, though.
Rhinos are adorable, but my other hunter has one. I'm not sure if I really want two.
Scorpids... Most of the old world ones are unappealing to me and I have almost all the new ones on my other hunter. However, there are a few old ones that stand out as very pretty.
I haven't given Shale Spiders enough of a chance. I have Jadefang on my other hunter, but he's collecting dust.
I have enough turtles. Terrorpene on one hunter, an orange one on another. They're cute, but two is enough for me.
Warp stalkers are possible, but they have the same problem that turtles have - I have three, on three different hunters. I could pick one up, but something new might be nice. (I have the purple and white ones.)
And lastly, worms. I like worms. They look very happy. I don't like their special, though. Still, this is a option I like, as I haven't tamed enough worms, especially the old world ones.
Anyway! Family and/or skin suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated. ^.^; Feel free to suggest one from a family I didn't show particular interest in.

I can also see him with one of the armored boars...most likely the black one. <3 my hordie's boar.
Not sure that was helpful, it's just kind of what I see >_>
Re: A Tank for my Troll?
Also, although you said gorillas aren't your favorite, I think this would also be a nice choice.
Good luck!

Hmm,
-Shale Spiders make for great tanks; I think that's your best choice.
-Beetles are a good alternative to turtles, and I assure you that their animations are quite lively.
-Worms' special ability (Acid Spit) is actually a great tanking tool, since it disproportionally affects your pet's DPS relative to your own. If you don't bother with Burrow Attack, then you'll have a great, wiggly tank
-Boars are awesome; you really need to give them a try at least. You can't judge them based on looks alone, because their animations are such an important part of their character. I just wish Gore was actually a useful tanking ability.
-Bears make for great all-around tanks, although they could really use some better models for sure. As for the size difference, couldn't you consider the bear to be a juvenile? I'm not talking some baby bear cub, but a rowdy adolescent bear.

Cute doesn't need an explanation.

Re: A Tank for my Troll?
You could go bear. I've never noticed them feeling small beside my characters, and that is the kind of thing that would definitely bother me as well. If I were you I would go tame a few and try them out; they have a great ability & a nice variety of skins. I'm surprised you haven't ever really liked them. I honestly like almost all the bear skins, though my favorite bear is still Bjarn, the pretty polar bear wandering outside ironforge just waiting to be returned to its rightful Horde home
Turtle:
You also say you have enough turtles, but I really like their ability as well, so I would say give them a second chance. You say you have Terrorpene, but I would look at the other 'Ancient' turtle skin ~ Ghamoo-Ra's Skin ~ sagely turtle is very cute
Scarab:
I think it is worth noting that the armored scarabs are pretty cool looking as well, and this blue, gold & green one matches the T11 hunter armor to a T. If I were you I would maybe make my troll have rockin' aqua hair & use this scarab when you get your welfare epic boots, and he will look like your soulmate who just crawled out of Uldum desert to fight alongside you
Boars:
I would also look at some of the brightly colored boars that could match your character; Black & Green Felboar, Yellow & Black Felboar, Blue & White Felboar, Orange & Grey, & Red & Black Felboar.
With the bright tribal colors on trolls I just think the brighter the pet the more it looks like it was meant to go with your character

Re: A Tank for my Troll?
shale: very pretty looking, nice buff good choice of color. (i love shale spiders but since im 70 i cant say too much about them x.X)
Beetle: great for hard core soloing. i used a turtle to solo just about everything in heroic sethekk halls at lvl 70 (killed the end boss =D) and the beetle has all the same perks/spels as a turtle but would probably match your troll much better. a green, light blue or one of the scarab skins would probably work quite well =)

Re: A Tank for my Troll?
Your armory doesn't want to load for me, but if I remember right, Vallrok has red hair, so on to my choices!
Personally, I feel that as a BM hunter, I don't really need a tenacity pet for out soloing because a single KC is enough for all of my pets to keep aggro (even at level 85). And I find the crocolisk/warpstalker special useful for any of my hunters, especially if you PvP at all. Just my two cents.

Re: A Tank for my Troll?
Leveling up with quite a few different hunters, even my tank pets have trouble holding aggro sometimes in multi-mob situations so I find that I do a lot of kiting, trapping, feigning, etc. /shrug I was just trying to provide a different outlook on it.

Re: A Tank for my Troll?
I used to think the same thing, and then I was rolled the blue Cata croc for a random pet challenge. I think they actually have a lot of personality, and are very nice to look at. I'd give one a shotCrocolisks are a bit boring to me, and I never could make use of their special, as a BM hunter at least.
Well, that's if you just want A tank, and not the BEST (turtle/beetle) tank pet, ofc. Then again, why limit yourself?! I have Gorebite, some scorpids, a beetle, a warp stalker...
