Ghostpaw 'spirit' wolf - seeking clarification

Unread post by Juzelle »

Seeking clarification/information regarding the ashenvale ghostpaws:

I was just recently (as in a few minutes ago) out in ashenvale on one of my
baby hunters, with the intention of heading north into darkshore to pick up a
ghost saber for her growing collection.

I was contemplating picking up a corrupted thistle bear for the glowing purple
aura, too, and as I was riding along I passed a ghostpaw wolf fighting with a deer.
The ghostpaw was in its transformed 'grimtotem' form, and I was thinking "Hmm
I wonder if the abandon-macro taming method will work on these guys". So i did
the deed, tried a few times, and managed to tame on of the little buggers while
still in the transformed 'spirit' state.

However, I'm under the impression from what I'd previously heard that unlike the
oil stained pets, if the ghostpaw dies, when it resurrects, it loses its skin and
becomes the old white-wolf again. I have yet to try actually killing my new pet
to see if she keeps her skin, but so far the ghost-skin has survived a few random
disconnects, stable swaps, etc.

Has anyone picked up one of these since the patch last week and found the skin to
be permanent? Or do the same issues apply as previously?

I'm not an expert on this sort of of 'glitch taming' but I'm pretty sure it's considered against the rules/ "a cheat" to have a pet with a glitched permanent buff because it makes the pet stronger as a result and not just look different, so you might want to be careful with having one. Also on the topic of the appearance being a buff; it will most likely be wiped when entering an arena at least.

I didn't tame it to gain any unfair advantage, I just collect weird/unique
skinned pets. Croco-slime, ghost hydra, etc etc.

it doesn't retain any special buff/abilities from what I've seen, so it's about
as much of a cheat as sword-in-the-face puppy. It's just a regular wolf,
SSDD crit buff, but with a really swanky skin.

I don't arena, so I'm not concerned about that particular issue (last I heard
that affects the oil stained wolves as well). I'm just curious to see if the skin
will survive through death, as does the thistle bears, flaming boars, etc.

Won't be able to check again till I get off of work, so thought I'd pick some
people's brains and see what the collective has to say :3

There's nothing explicitly 'against the rules' with pets like these provided they don't have a buff that does damage/increases damage/could be seen as an advantage.

Ghostpaw wolves lose the buff upon death, so your wolf will still lose her ghost form if she dies.

Yeah, I didn't suggest that you would have tried to cheat on purpose but I just thought I'd point it out as a heads-up if you didn't know/think about the whole perma-buff scenario. :) Sorry if it came off like that!

What comes to mind for me is the ancient hysteria perma-buffing on Core Hounds that you sometimes get when you stable them while the buff is still active and it will stick on them permanently once you pull them out again. It won't show any tags on your pet but it still lashes out higher damage than normally.

Ah well, so much for that! At least I have something pretty to look

Yep. I have had that pet since the /abandonpet macro was "discovered".

I've loved it ever since. And yes I can confirm that it does lose its buff when dying. ( I tamed a second one to test it )

Shame though. But I only use it for -potential- roleplay. Not for combat :)

What you're talking about is different than taming a pet with an appearance buff.

The ghostpaw's ghostly form that they turn into at low health is nothing more than an appearance effect they take and in no way related to the bug that happens when you stable a pet under the effects of a buff they get in battle (or that we click).

And as a side note: We got word from Noah (and it's linked in the stickies here) that the appearance buff pets are fine to have so long as you're not trying to use them for malicious means and no one reports you with having one.
