[New Hunter Here... ^.^ ] Pet Help: Diet Choice?
(First post here... ^.^')
I tend to base my pet choices on the diet that all of them can share, and I use Petopia heavily for this, which helps.
But, I'm a bit in a rut.... I always either go with pets that can eat Meat, or Fish: since I find those 2 easy to get...
I do love some pets, but despise others.
I guess I'm just worried about trying a different "diet path" as I call it. <.<
Does anyone have any suggestions as to help me?
EDIT: Cleaned it up.

Meat and Fish are certainly the most easy food types you can obtain on your own. Boars and Bears are both very handy due to their preferences for eating just about anything.
Fruit actually isn't too bad to get though, most cities or towns will have at least one vendor that carries fruit, and it drops often in jungley sort of locations.
Another thing to consider is the Mend Pet glyph that increased a pet's happiness. You can pretty much spam that and hardly ever have to worry about feeding them directly.
It's definitely worth it in my opinion, it cuts down on so much food.

meat is the easiest to come by.. Cheese and bread and fruit are harder to get.. But it all depends on what pet your happiest with as to what diet you'll provide them.. Good Luck

For Vephriel : I already know about the Mend Pet gylph, since my other troll on Burning Blade is an Scribe. ^.^ and it does cut down on food... just a pain to use when I forget to bring any with me... @.@
EDIT: Cleaned, again.

I would say that bread is also pretty easy to come by, most general goods/food vendors seem to sell bread. Also, conjured mage bread is edible for your pets. The bread families are:
Cunning
- Sporebats
- Wind Serpents
Ferocity
- Moths
- Tallstriders
- Wasps
Tenacity
- Bears
- Boars
- Crabs
- Gorillas
- Rhinos (BM only)
- Turtles
- Worms (BM only)
Those tanks like their bread!

Bread does seem interesting. Might try that, or even fungus, since I tend to slay most things around Brill for training... xD

Tbh the only time you need to bother with buying food is if you're a lowbie- or if your pet is cunning. Or if in a dungeon with a tank. Also, I wouldn't try and trust in the kindness of mages. I've seen/had mages who refused to make anything or a table.
And the mend pet glyph is broken, if you have imp mend pet, remember that. But if you don't then grab it. Anyways.
Meat is really the cheapest to get food, since it just drops everywhere, seriously even zombies drop it [ew]. If you do the brunhilder daily, you could get yeti cheese. I think the cheese also drops from other things, or it's just milk, bleh.

Cunning Pets get Carrion Feeder (if you spend for it) ... : http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=54044
It helps, even though I've seen it only give 6 happiness for it, helps healing too.

Re: [New Hunter Here... ^.^ ] Pet Help: Diet Choice?
My Wind Serpent is willing to eat anything now, so I never have to worry about her (Carrion Feeder).
When I first started, I tried to stick around pets with the easy (and free) food supplies, meat and fish. That was back when pets still have loyalty though, so it was very important to always keep them well fed. Didn't want them to run away on you. No adays though, I get the Glyph, and spec most of my pets for their happiness increasing talent. Diet doesn't matter much to me anymore. ^-^

Fungus is the rarest food to obtain, although you can find plenty of the low level ones at Wailing Caverns and the Ghost Mushroom doesn't count.
For Tenacity pets, as long as they have the talent Guard Dog, you don't have to worry too much about feeding them when Growl is in big favor. Not to confuse it with Silverback which only heals the pet, not give it happiness.

I have that glyph seems to work well for the happiness,Vephriel wrote:Another thing to consider is the Mend Pet glyph that increased a pet's happiness. My First pet liked his fish witch was cool since I never ever EVER did fishing so it has made me level it, So the meat and fish eaters are IMO cheaper since It cost me nothing to feed my pet till I got a gorilla then I feed him bread but you can find a vendor easy enough so I would just pick a pet you like and worry about the diet as and when you have too,
I have to second the Glyph Idea works a treat
