Re: Guild Wars 2 Pet Class
how different is the game from WoW? (in play style I mean)
Also (probably a stupid question but) when is this Guildwars2 supposed to be released?
If it truly DOES have a hunter-style class, this might interest me as an alternate game (for those times I feel like taking a short break from WoW). In Final Fantasy, the pet classes were my only real favourite classes.

Re: Guild Wars 2 Pet Class
Does GW2 also have pet taming?
EDIT: I've been skimming through the video (looking for bears) ... one thing that did stick out for me though was the narrator's comments about auto-attack and how GW2 doesn't have it; that's nice and all, and I'm sure their combat system is cool, but saying auto-attack "lets players sit back with their hands off the keyboard" is a gross over-simplification - yes in wow you *can* rely just on auto-attack, but doing so (obviously) will generate crappy results that get you killed, kicked, or both. HERP. DEE. DERP.
EDIT2: The bears do indeed look pretty good - as with all pets in GW2 they have normal looking idle poses instead of the dated wow "perma-crouch" Blizzard uses to minimize amount of animations needed. Score one for GW2...

Ah... I suppose so? I am probably too easy on animation styles, I'll admit, but it didn't much bother me there, so I didn't notice anything too strange this time.Sukurachi wrote:so, the videos I've watched of Guildwars2 have a rather peculiar animation style. Is this the way Guildwars1 was also?
Couldn't tell you for sure, aside from what you can see in the videos. They claim they're more or less doing away with mindless questing and grinding in favor of events that change size and scope depending on the quantity of people involved in them. They have promises about so many aspects of the play-style, but until there's more than videos and the very occasional trade show demo, nothing for sure.how different is the game from WoW? No idea! We're missing two profession releases, and one of the races is apparently in the middle of a redesign, so my completely uninformed opinion is we won't see it until next year. Also (probably a stupid question but) when is this Guildwars2 supposed to be released?

Re: Guild Wars 2 Pet Class
I rather enjoy quests. I've never found them "mindless".
Grinding = mindless, yes.
But questing?
It's what I love about PLAYING an mmoRPG... the whole idea is that you are ON a "quest".
Oh well, maybe there's something they mean that I'm not catching? Maybe a kind of quest in other games that I have not played?

....Did I really...? Oh, I did say mindless questing, didn't I? Well that's embarrassing, considering I do loves me some nice quest lines.Sukurachi wrote:interesting way to put it: "mindless questing".

By "mindless questing", I meant to say "filler questing." "Go forth and kill ten rats because galdang it there's a lot of rats around here" type questing. Though between you and me, I'm not entirely sure you can get rid of quests entirely, but if they can cut out the fetch/bodycount/#$(&(%-poor drop rate collect quests that rarely give you any sense of accomplishment in favor of things that push the story along or feel important or what have you, it'd be pretty okay with me.

LOL, no problem, I thought it was the makers of GuildWars who called them "mindless quests".Daranara wrote:....Did I really...? Oh, I did say mindless questing, didn't I? Well that's embarrassing, considering I do loves me some nice quest lines.

Re: Guild Wars 2 Pet Class
And while I think some could be improved, I think in terms of cleverness or plot that there's only so many original or quasi-original storylines to be had.
The main problem I have with solo'ing is that for the most part they don't even try to make it *challenging*.
Back in the day I really liked TBC mainly because it had outdoor bosses. Nowadays TBC is crazy easy - the stuff that used to be hella hard now can be solo'ed with crappy gear and little to no variation of tactics (serp sting, kill shot, steady x2 will wipe out nearly anything now). And for the most part they haven't done anything else like that - one of the few notable exceptions was Durnholde. That place rocks. But otherwise solo quests are like jello sandwiches.
I like grouping sometimes, but I shouldn't have to do it just to get a challenge.
