I'd say to get either a rpator or a wolf. I would prefer the wolf, thouhg, I've always used wolves

I would go for a wolf for it's furious howl.

Ferocity pets level 25-30 (I figured the level range would limit the choices somewhat. You can change that, of course!)

I have a soft spot for raptors, myself. They're great buddies. :)

I'd suggest a raptor too, got an MM cow alt with the green one and he's really lovely <3

Tho I also have a wolf. But they do somewhat have a long CD for their racial abilities, and if a raptor doesn't crit with its then that's kinda eeeh... Though atleast at this level it won't really matter.

I suggest picking two skins/models you like most, one of each, and giving them both a test run to see which one feels the most right for you.

Guh. Another one of these threads.

Dragonhawks and Wind Serpents have good DPS at that level too, since their familyskills bypass armor.

I also exist on DeviantArt.

Use a couple of different pets.. Why limit yourself to just one?

At level 30 it isn't going to matter much which pet you dps with, as furious howl won't add that much to make a noticeable difference, and you aren't deep enough into the pet tree for any of the super-damage buffs that ferocity provides. So really, just about anything from the ferocity or cunning tree will do fine. Heck, even boars could probably be pretty decent with the charge+gore double damage. Don't worry your pretty little belf head so much about ZOMGDPSPWNAGE, just pick a pet you like and have fun with it. There will be plenty of time to nitpick later once you hit 80. :)

Aye,

Would have to agree with that one personally... At 30ish, a Boar would make a well balanced pet. Tenacity won't win any DPS contests, but with Gore+charge it'll still pull it's weight no doubt. The meager benefits available in the tree will also help the Boar out as well starting off to survive a wee longer in a pinch... If I just hadn't grew up on a farm I would be using one myself. Those squeals just get to me and I ain't explaining that one either except, ham anyone..?

The really nice thing about Charge+Gore is that it front-loads a bunch of pet damage. Even if other pets do more sustained DPS, having a pet that does a lot of damage up-front helps him hold aggro and allows you to open up with a good, powerful shot without stealing the aggro from him at the start. With other pets, you have to wait a little bit longer for them to cement the aggro before you start using your heavier nuke-shots.

That's one thing that is so fun about being a lowbie hunter...you can run around with almost anything that strikes your fancy and it doesn't matter that much. The real differentiating abilities don't kick in till later. Though I second (third?) the vote for boar, especially if you play solo at all. They are a good, sturdy pet with a little extra kick. You could tame one of the armored ones now, but you might need a little help. I got one solo at lvl 33, but it got a little hairy in a couple spots!

So far I have had: Ghost saber, raptor, Spider, scorpid, core hound, spirit bear, wasp and skoll the spirit wolf.
I have just ditched the lot of them, keeping only skoll for raiding, due to me heading into the pvp section.
If you are looking to PvP then do not get any elite pets and do not use beastmastery spec in BG's as I found out the hard way, most of the time the pet is either chasing butterflies or dead OR lagged out and about half a mile beind you which is no good.

Out of all the the pets I have had though, ghost sabre is the one I keep going back to, yes the wolf is an awesome pet, and so is raptor, but its the cats crowd control that does it for me, on top of that with him spec'd right his dps is up there with the best. Raptor was good for lower lvls but i found him slow and kinda weak at the higher lvls.
So personal preference btween wold and cat, I personally think cat is faster though and that counts for a lot.
