Question regarding Npcscan...

Unread post by Jagden »

So, I hope this is the right thread. And I hope I can communicate my question clearly cause I'm not sure I can. So here goes: I cleared my cache several times today. And I understand that something is cached when you go into the NPCscan menu and there is a red "x" by the name. My question is, for instance, I deleted my cache but Arcturis has a red x by his name although I myself didn't see him. Does that mean someone else did since I deleted my cache? Do you basically get information from other people who are using NPCscan similar to Gatherer?

It means that you probably saw someone's pet at some point, since he is cached. Also, if you're not exiting WoW before clearing your cache, it won't work.

Info is only gathered from you, but if you go into a major city, you'll end up with the most popular rares cached, simply because hunters will have them out.

I've noticed that if you have these rares and view them in your stables (or pull em out), you cache them yourself. =/ Little disappointing but I'm pretty lazy about clearing my cache anyway since I use SilverDragon on top of _NPCScan.

As stated above. You were in the vacinity where another hunter had the pet out. NPCScan will not go off unless you are in the zone that the rare is suppose to be, but will cache because it is close.

yeah if you're about to start camping for a rare, i recommend log out quick, clear cache, then log back in to start.

running through SW / Org will basically cache most of the current / popular rares immediately (because of the hunter pets around). Just a heads up

Thanks for all the responses. That is pretty frustrating that it logs hunter pets but I guess there is no way to avoid that. I usually clear my cache at least once a day. I read somewhere how you can set it up to where it will clear your cache either every time you log in or every time you log out of WoW, maybe I'll give that a try. Thanks again!

SilverDragon usually only pays attention to the wild rares, even if you have them cached, so you may want to pick that one up too. :)

I <3 SilverDragon. It's never let me down. XD I just like it because I don't have to clear the cache like I do with _NPCScan since I"m lazy. :P

I've never gotten SilverDragon to do anything for me than alert me once I mouse over the rare I've already found. Am I missing something about SD?

It works both when mousing over a rare and being in its vicinity. It used to be the only way I hunted rares until I learned about _NPCScan, and when I would tab out while hunting Loque it would still go off.

Silver dragon never tells me a rare is up unless my mouse crosses over the actual rare. So to use Silver dragon I have to keep crossing my mouse over the area I'm flying. NPCScan instead searches a section of the area that I am flying over. It has caught rares that are just spawn behind me as I'm flying away.

Is there a way to set up Silver dragon to do the same kind of search as NPCScan does?

Thanks

If you don't have your nameplates turned on then SilverDragon will only pick up mobs when you mouse over them. It will pick up mobs without having to be moused over if you're within range to pick up its nameplate. This is why I now use it in conjunction with _NPCScan since _NPCScan has a little bit of a greater range.
