Name changing hunter

Unread post by Miyon »

I am not even sure if this is the right place for this topic, if so, just move it. ;)

Anyway, I racechanged my hunter from a belf to a troll, and I do not regret this even once. However, I don't think Yuukì seems too fitting to a troll, and the weird ì's are bugging me out, so I'd kinda like a new name for her. I recently changed my troll druids name from Raìkiri (which is fits a shaman better anyway) to Hakuen (meaning 'white smoke'.) I have three options so far:
- Rayhna (I already have that name in use on a draenei hunter on another server, and I kinda feel weird using the same name twice)
- Thyell (I feel this is more of a blood elf name than a troll one, so I don't feel like it fits, but I still like it.)
- Kitsune/Mitsune, (means fox in japanese, and Yuukì is quite sly, but it's already taken, and I am not sure it fits.)

So what I was wondering, if any of you lovely people on petopia have any better suggestion for a suitable name for my troll hunter? Armory link to what she looks like and pets in my sig, btw.

A friend suggested Raihna as opposed to Rayhna, but I am not sure about that either.

To me, all three of those names don't sound very trollish to me. You might wanna look at this page for info on zandali language.

Most Japanese words do not sound very trollish, but you can definitively find some that work. A good number of Wassa's pets have Japanese words for names (Hahadori, Hayawaza, Mimizuku, Sakki, Jinai, etc). The key is to use lots of vowels, especially A's, I's and U's. Other real life languages that I find work out for troll names are Maori, Spanish, Haitian Creole, and various African languages.

Yuukì does sound trollish, but maybe spell it differently like Yukee?

Thanks for the sites provided so far. I really suck at trolling, I mean, figuring out troll-ish names. Since Yuukì is my first troll anyway. Why I chose Yuukì for her is something I am not entirely sure of. I will look into the sites and see if I can figure out something. After a while, I kinda noticed that "hey, Yuukì isn't really a troll name.." and had no idea of what to do.

Hum.. I figured I would want a name that is perhaps 4 letters long.. Argh, I suck at researhing.. x(

Edit: I got two suggestion from my friends, whereas the first is "Naji" which sounds cool enough, but upon googling is an arabic male name pronounced Naci, which we figured would sounds like Nazi, even if we ourselves would pronounce it with a sharp J. Even though it sounded very fun, and we had a great laugh. The other suggestion is Senji, which I personally thinks sounds too much like Sen'jin village.. I think I want a short name though, no more than 4-5 letters, perhaps less..

Since you said your hunter is shy, I looked up names that mean shy and got the Arabic name Lawahiz. Shorting it to Lawa is 4 letters long and sounds trollish to me.

EDIT: Oops you are right I misread "sly" as "shy." >.>

But Lawa could actually sounds nice.. got another suggestion here, Arya, meaning honourable or noble.. I'm not sure how a name ending with a vowel would be.. I'd have to think about it.

Edit: My options so far seems to be Dévi, Cáel, Arya, and Naji.. Although I think Cáel would fit a male belf more.

I love Cáel, but I agree that it sounds like the name of a male blood elf - especially taking Kael'thas into consideration. So far, I like Arya and Naji the best. I'm horrible with troll names, but here are a couple more suggestions:

Akemi
Ayumu
Chiyo
Kaede
Kazue
Raija
Ubaki
Yasu
Yuri

Zephania sounds kinda trollish to me. It's actually derived from the Hebrew name Tzefanyah, which means "hidden". I couldn't find too many names meaning "shy" so "hidden" was alternative meaning I explored. You could shorten it to Zepha if you still prefer something shorter.

Zuri, Zhuri, and Zhure all mean "beautiful" in Swahili if you wish to explore a different option.

Imo, Hebrew, Arabic, and African names seem to work very well for Troll characters.

One of my original female troll alts was Zendi. I don't think it means anything, was just a random name I thought sounded suiting. Anyways, feel free to use it if you wish!

I think I must have settled on Dévi, for some reason. I might do another change in a month or two if I feel like it. Now, when I think of it, Dévil would be something I would have named a succubus.. >.<
And as far as japanese names goes for trolls, they are kind of too cute.

But thanks again, everyone, for all the nice suggestions. I will come back to this thread in a months time and see how I feel about it. :D

Just as a note, for future incase you every wanted to change again, troll names tend to be 1 silable such as Vol or Sen or Zul. The "Jin" bit is added to show power such as a voodoo master or a shadow hunter - it's more of a title.

Devi sounds like a very cute name.

But if you are really stuck, why not just hit the randomize button for names? I found that the goblin females have some very neat short names that pop up at times. I got Luk and Riz on my alt server that way-I also got Bunny and Amy as names from the gnome random name generator. *shrug* Play around finding names that way, and usually they are all without accents and such. Might find something you really like.

And my BE hunter protests that Kitsune is not a troll name. O_o
