Giving Eve Online another go...

Unread post by Epicfail »

Since I'm taking a break from WoW, and several people have shown interest in playing Eve, I figured I'd ask for advice about what race/ship/weapon/"role" you guys enjoy most. I'm not asking for "the best" and I'll make my own decisions, but I'd sure like any general advice anyone can give.

I'm starting a new char as my one from over 4 years ago showed up "banned" when I tried to reactivate. Its probably just been deleted for lack of use. It sucks kinda, because Eve was so "time" based and I had learned quite a few skills on that char, but a fresh start might be exactly what I need. I was a Caldari/missle-craft guy but before the end I completely swapped to Galante ships/drones because they were awesome looking and super effective. I loved the way the battle cruiser/ships looked, especially the Brutix.

One of the reasons I left before was that I never got involved with a Corp. I just played combat missions up to IIIs with my battleship and got tired of clearing a mission, heading all the way back to base to turn in, swap ships to a cargo ship, track all the way back and bring in all the loot, then track all the way back to sell... It just seemed like a broken system to have to do all that. Eventually, I got to the point it took 2 hours to do 1 mission, with like 30 minute missions and an hour 30 for travel and looting. Is the system similar nowadays? Is there a better way to make money (as that was pretty much my only reason for the missions).

I kinda liked mining before, but the combat ships looked way more fun at the time. If combat is much the same, I might go the mining route this time... or trade... /shrug. Ideas?
I don't really feel like this is so much the "Post-Modern" era as much as its the "Pre-Zombie-Apocalpse" era. I consider myself more of a forward thinking guy and an era that just won't die is just as feasible as a coming era, where the dead come back.

Mining = Boring

I like Gallente ships, droneboats are fun. :D I also like the whole Caldari missileships and their way of playing.
And the system is largely the same. Salvaging is probably one of the largest incomesources, tough nothing beats trading in my experience.Try asking your newbie corp, since rookiechannel is just too... Yeah... Let's not speak of it...

Minmatar ships = the coolest tough.
Since, you know, duct tape and chewing gum are cheaper than welding.

Couple of things...

Can you recommend a racial? I think I remember something called Bloodlines came out right as I was leaving before... /shrug
What is salvaging? Not sure I did any of that before (which is probably why I was poor).
Armour tank or shield tank, in your opinion?
If you could re-do anything, having the ability to start over, what would you do different?

I do remember loving the missile boat Caldari way of playing, but missiles got pretty expensive after a while and jetting into a mission without replenishing once was kind of a "rutroh" moment. I liked drones, but it got boring after a while. I may start minmatar as the rifter was the most fun ship I've ever flown. That or Amarr ships as I don't think I've ever flown one, but lazers are flippin sweet lookin :P

Racials don't matter anymore, we got "Neural remaps", allowing us to change the attribute's around. Just go for the one you like most.
Salvaging is done by using a module on a wreck. After several tries you get stuff you can make glyph-like modules with. They also sell well.
Shield tank, tough most people armor tank.
I would probably give Saturo a new hairdo...

Archangel Kairos if anyone cares...

Epicfail was taken :P

Went with Minmatar, but I'll probably swap over to a different racial ship type. I'm mission running right now... Not sure what else I can do with no starter money :P I did alright with missions first time around. Just level 1s till I find a playstyle that really pulls at me.

Thanks for the help.
