Mud - The origin of Syrenah's nickname

Unread post by Kylah »

Just in case my story goes on for more than one post, please do not post a comment until after the post which has a line in it (Like the one before someone's signature) with a few author's comments below. I'd rather not have my story chopped up in little chunkies throughout the post. Thanks! :D
________

Syrenah was hunting King Mosh of Un'goro Crater. Somehow, the great Devilsaur had managed to evade the young Blood Elf for nearly three days now. Now it was raining, and the ground was incredibly muddy, so she kept slipping. Seeing a giant wasp coming her way, she bolted around a tree, only to slip and fall face-first into a large mud puddle. Holding her breath, Syrenah waited for the wasp to pass before struggling to get up. As she tried this, she succeeded in coating her entire body in mud: face, hair, and quiver included. Hearing murmuring voices nearby, she stood still in the puddle, looking quite like a mudman. The rain had ceased, so the mud wasn't washing off. In fact, it was drying onto her.
"D'you suppose that th' rain'll start again? I don't like this heat much." Said a heavily Gilnean-accented voice.
"Oh no, lassie, I don' suppose it will. Why'd ya come ifn ye didn' like it, hrm?" Another voice replied, sounding much like a dwarf. The voices revealed that they were both female. 'Alliance! What am I going to do?' Syrenah thought, frightened. Around the corner came a ghost wolf, most likely the dwarf, and a large...trollish cat. Syrenah was utterly confused. Where was the Gilnean?
"Wha's this?" The ghost wolf asked, sitting down hard on the muddy grass.
"I'm not sure. i was just about to ask you, wot?" The cat replied, cocking her head to one side and looking at the shaman.
"It looks like mud ta me."
"No! Looks like a tree, eh?"
"No. I's mud."
"Mud? What has gotten into your head, Zaoh?" (At this point, Syrenah was completely confused. Zaoh wasn't a dwarf name, or at least she didn't think so)
"Listen here, lassie! I don' think ye knoo much aboot mud, now do ye?"
"Ehr, sure I do."
"Well, ye see, a dwarf-ey creature like me'll knoo mud when I see it."
"Ye aren't a dwarf, Zaoh! you're much to big!"
"I said dwarf-ey! And trust me. I's mud." The ghost wolf said, stomping one of her front paws on the ground. Syrenah spat out mud from her mouth and blinked.
"Oi! Look! See, Zay? It isn't mud no more than you're a dwarf! It has eyes n' a mouth!"
"Oh phooey! It's nay use tryin' ta reason witchye. Can't ye see it's still mud! I's just a mudman now."
"Fine. Lets try to talk to it, hey?"
"Ye can't talk to mud!"
"Sure I can! Just watch, wot?" The cat said, stepping forward with a dainty step and sitting at the edge of the mud pool Syrenah stood in.
"Ello, Mud! What do you want, hey? Sitting here in your little mud puddle all the time has got to be lonely, hey?" She asked, cocking her head to one side.
"My name isn't Mud! It's Syrenah, and I'm not a mudman." Syrenah said, slowly trying to move forward out of the puddle.
"Watch out, Zair! These mudlads are awefull devious critters!" The ghost wolf cried, scampering backwards.
"Oh, do hush, Zay! Mud's a friendly one, eh? Can't you see that, hey?" The cat said. Syrenah shook her head, spraying mud everywhere and clearing her head of mud.
"Oh lookie here, Zaoh! Mud is a Blood Elf!" The cat, called Zair apparently, cried.
"I s'pose you're right. Le's clean th' lassie off an' take 'er to our cave." The ghost wolf said. The two of them came to Syrenah and helped her out of the puddle, carrying her across their backs back to a little, cozy cave in the mountains around Un'goro. Zaoh came out of her Ghost Wolf form, revealing herself to be a green eyed, red-brown furred female tauren, and carrying water over to Syrenah. She dumped it over the elf, cleaning off the mud.
"Come now, Zairja, whaddo we do wi' a li'l elven lassie like Mud is?" Zaoh asked. The cat (Now in her trollish form) came over next to the tauren, looking at Syrenah curiously.
"Why, I don't know. Mud? Can you speak?" She asked in her prim little Gilnean accent.
"Yes, I can speak," Syrenah coughed, "And my name isn't Mud, it's Syrenah."
"Auch, we've gotten ourselves inta th' habit o' callin' ye Mud, so we'll still call ye Mud." Zaoh decided.
"All right then. Can I ask you two a question?" Syrenah asked, laughing quietly at the pair's antics.
"Go ahead, hey?" Zairja replied, plopping down on the cave floor.
"Why do you sound like a dwarf and Gilnean, when you're really a tauren and a troll?" Syrenah queried, looking up at Zaoh from her position on the floor.
"Auch, funny question, lassie." Zaoh smiled, "I was raised by an ol' Dwarf lad. He foun' me in th' snoo o' Win'erspring, don' knoo how ah was there, but anyhoo, he adopted me." _-cont. below-

"an' he raised me. When th' Cataclysm struck, he was workin' oot in our fields, an' a big ol' hole opened up, and swallowed me dad whole! 'twas tragic, it was. Then I foond Zairja here, an' now we live oot here, observin' th' beasts an' such." Zaoh finished.
"Yes, quite tragic indeed, Zay." Zairja smiled, "I was a similar story. I was found in Stranglethorn Vale by a human professor and adopted, wot. He went to Gilneas, but the gates closed behind us! I was raised there, and learned druidic ways from the Druids of the Harvest there, hey? My dad was swept away by waters swallowing, oh bother, Duskhaven, was it? Anyways, I ended up here, like Zaoh, eh? What's your story, Mud?" The troll asked. Syrenah sighed, and then told her story to them ((which will be written very soon. I would hate to spoil it for you ;) )) Shortly after, they ate a nice, cold dinner, with plenty of Zaoh and Zairja jabbering at each other about the discoveries of the day. After the dinner, they bid Syrenah, or "Mud" as they called her, farewell, and Syrenah returned to her hunt of King Mosh.

Oh, I loved the story! It was so cute and hilarious, you had me laughing out loud more than once  I am totally torn between a worgen or a tauren! I love the idea of both, but I’m torn between which I like more. A worgen opens up the Alliance issue, which is a fun story arc and a great opportunity for character development. I’m sure Rae is pretty prejudiced against the Alliance, too, so what would make her feel for this lad so much that she’d want to take him in? But then, I can also see a big ol’ boy tauren in a family of blood elves, and it’s an awesome mental image  I’m so torn!!!

Quiv, that picture is stunning. Rendir looks so amazing with that cat – with that whole environment, really. Him, Salaina, and Aylee just MUST live in Winterspring!!! It’s too perfect for him!

I’ve been playing a lot with Whitnee today, and she is up to level 30 :D I also took a moment to take some screenies, sadly sans-Const but screenies nonetheless…

Here she is, making a wish on the copper she just threw into the Stormwind fountain. Her wish is the same every time: for peace to be had all throughout the world, so no more families will be destroyed and she and her Constantyne can be together without opposition.

Having a moment in front of the wedding arch… missing her silly elf :(

On the outskirts of Stormwind, there is a small, abandoned old lighthouse. Before she and Constantyne married, this used to be their secret meeting spot. She would wait out to the lighthouse in the dark and cower behind its back wall, so no spotlights from the shore would spot her and send guards out to find out what she was doing. Here she is, waiting for him.
