Name Reserved?

I try and rename my pet who I have not named yet and it comes up with a thing saying name reserved? Wtf is that? I thought you could name your pet anything?

It varies, but it's basically to prevent copyright infringement and/or offensive names. Things like brand names and swear words, even names that contain these within, are often restricted ("reserved").

Sometimes the names make little sense, like Ragnarok or Jade, but I'm sure Blizz has some vast plan. Still ticked a guy can name his cat P*nis but I can't have Jade.

Quicksilver is one I was going to use. Sure it's a comic duded name but it's a common name for the element mercury.....

Yes, I was upset when I realized I couldn't name my green wind serpent Jade. Finally broke down and named it Jãde. What? It's a li'l mini wind serpent, that's all.
