Convalescence of Winds + Tames

Unread post by Acherontia »

I did some digging on the thermal updrafts outside Skarr/Karkin/Kirix/Skitterflame's areas.

Forgive me if this is already common knowledge--I have seen it mentioned in passing, but I think that more detailed information may help people with their tames.

The buff is called Convalescence of Winds, and can only be obtained from one specific updraft. It lasts for 2 minutes and gives you a 100% haste, meaning that tames can be completed in a couple seconds, or even instantly.

"Sidelsky18" on the Wowhead page for the spell gave details on which updraft gives it--which is good, 'cause I'd died about 20 times trying to find a pattern. >.>

Basically, you can stand on the rock that gives you the buff for the updraft; when your rare spawns (check Skitterflame & the second Karkin/Skarr point via Eagle Eye), simply jump into the air. You'll be deposited on a rock where you can run to tame all but Kirix, I think; for him, you can jump (be CAREFUL, you will jump HIGH) back to one of the other rocks or even down to him to tame.

This is how to get to the particular updraft:

And this is the updraft in action, with buff. I'm not sure what my Tame timer would be with it, but it'd be quick.

I suggest practicing with the updraft--perhaps naked for repair costs?--to see where exactly you need to start from to jump back to your place of choice with the jump height buff in advance.

Yaone and I spent a lot of time experimenting with that buff and jumping to Skarr/Karkin's original rock (The Rock for Kirix tames), but even though we managed to pull it off, the buff didn't always carry over, which was frustrating (especially since hitting that rock was sooooo satisfying when it worked).

That buff is basically a big tease if you're trying to tame anything other than Skitter and Skarr/Karkin at the one NE point, since it's highly risky. Just my two cents, though. :)

From what I can tell, it depends on where you jump to--too far from Fireplume and it dissipates. Could bear testing though!

I got the jump down great, but still only 50/50 on getting the buff to stick

Plus, if its on the lower rocks for skarr/karkin, buff won't stick

That's lame, I got it to work a couple times for me and figured it just *would* >.< At least it is still good for the other spawns, though--if I see Skarr up and nobody is around to tame him (fat chance of that, lol) I may give it a shot.

oh it does work

When I got my skarr, he spawned up in the back. And let me tell you, with core hound bloodlust and a speed pot, my tame was just under 3 seconds :D

Phew, I just tried Kirix. Three times. First two I died horribly; on the third, I grabbed the buff before the attempt.

The tame finished as he was mid-cast on the toxin, i.e. VERY FAST lol ^^ I actually deterranced as the cast finished, went to press tame again and was wondering why he was shrinking...

Anyway, I strongly suspect that the buff's in place mainly for Kirix, at the very least. HUGE help!!

In what direction are you people jumping in order to keep the buff? I've tried pretty much every general direction and every time the buff fades the moment I hit the ground outside the Fireplume Peak.

You don't need to leave Fireplume Peak to tame any of the rares up there--Kirix can be reached (and tamed successfully) at the edge of the Fireplume's ground, right where the other updraft is. I think you can (with practice) make it onto the rocks without losing the buff, but all three tames should be doable without leaving the mountain, I think.

You're saying Kirix doesn't evade if I tame him from Fireplume Peak? O_o That's good to know. Always assumed he would...

Nope, you want to be out of his melee range so the only attack he can do is his poison that he casts. Otherwise he hits quite hard and has a knockback

If you have the barspace, it might be a good idea to pull two gearsets on there for fast switching - stripped of everything with durability and full gear, just to avoid the repair bill. ;) Seeing as I play Alliance on a PVP server with way too much Horde, I'd rather not run around naked, unless I absolutely have to.
