RIP Suki: Now you'll live forever

Unread post by CrystalKitten »

So, I typed the story up elsewhere... Some of you may remember, if so, you can skip to the end :).

Last year.. or the year before that (time.. means very little in my head when it comes to extreme memories)... I found out my first cat, back living with my mom, had died. She was a bit older.. but with proper care.. could have had a few more years...

I had raised her from just a few weeks old, we aren't sure how old as she had become the runt, and was quite ill when we found her. She was small enough to fit in my.. probably around 5-7 at the time year old sister's hands... Her eyes were glued shut with discharge... She looked so bad that my mom refused to let my dad take her to the vet, for fear they'd just put her down. So, we kept her. In a box with a screen top to start, and for many months as my dad still didn't want a kitten... Then I kept her in my room.. For the rest of the year I came home during lunch so that I could feed her, and clean her eyes (the one never did fully heal. She had the 2nd/3rd eyelid still covering most of it, and it may have been a bit smaller in general, for the rest of her life.) Not only was she my first cat... But I saved her...

So then, one day I get an e-mail from my sister... "So we put Suki down, can I have any photos you have of her" ... wait.. WHAT?! Not only am I told my baby just died... But you do so by ASKING ME for something? I think it took me a week, or longer, to found out why she'd been put down. She'd had badly progressed cancer (apparently the kitty equivilent of breast cancer) and had been full of small tumors :( It made me even more angry, as I'd KNOWN she hadn't looked good for a while... She was very skinny.. and one year when I went over for xmas (first and last time I went back home...) she had lost quite a bit of fur in certain areas... The person I'd been living with, and myself, had even offered to pay for a vet visit to get them checked out.. but my mom refused.. saying they were fine... It made the situation even more infuriating, cause if she'd admitted she could be wrong.. JUST ONCE...

Anyways.. So obviously this hurt me a lot... I'm... mostly over it, a lot of the anger is gone, though there's still a little sometimes... And I often get sad.. I'd made a sculpey sculpture of her to help me through the process...

Then I saw Skarr announced... And I thought she'd be perfect... Suki was all black you see.. And As I mentioned in the other thread.. I'd chosen Skarr to let her live on forever, as it's far more mystical than the other cat models (not to mention they have lighter bellys, which Suki did not), and that it was as if she was sent back in a form in which she could no longer feel any pain...

I'd decided though, that I was going to wait a while... Not only was that fire field intimidating.. and I'm HORRIBLE and super mario/jumping games... But it was just too busy... I didn't want to ruin my experience in getting her, by having her camped and griefed away from me.

Today, however, I logged in, and the first area was dead. Almost no one doing the quests. I think "wow, people are getting over 4.2 already?". Then I get to the molten front... ANd it's STILL empty.. I think this is the first time I see it this dead... So.. I /who, and see no hunters other than myself.. So, I figure... "Ehn.. if there's no one else... and it's this dead... I might as well go take a peak. Get some practice jumping the rocks at least". So I hop my way across the floaty rocks. One of them started cracking underneath me, and scared me for a bit, especially when the next one did as well... But I made it across allright. Apparently the gust I found my way to (purely by chance, as I didn't know where I was going.. didn't look for any guides) was the hast buff gust... So, I get up to fireplume peak... get attacked by one of the elementals, kill it.. and then see a red dot in the middle of the gap... Mouse over... SKARR! I rush to dismiss my pet, go to the edge of the land mass.. and hit tame (forgot to hit my other buffs, heh). I think she knew... She wanted to come back home to me, as the tame went flawlessly. WIth the haste buff, she was mine before my cast bar even finished, and before she even got off her first spell :)

As I was finishing typing this, a horde hunter came up to check spawn points, and cheered at me :) (Anyone here Oggy/know Oggy? On Llane) And now another is gratsing me, this time an ally. I'm just ecstatic right now...

RIP Suki, at least know you'll live forever.. in some way.

CK - my condolences on the loss of your kitty. I'm a huge cat lover myself, and I know how much it hurts...

... and grats on Skarr :)

I'm truly sorry to hear about your RL cat and all the pain you've gone through with its passing. I know losing one that is treated like family is very rough and I couldn't begin to imagine what it'd be like when you "saved" the cat. On a brighter note, congratulations of your taming of Skarr and the immortalization of Suki in its black gem form :)

Grats on the new kitty. I got him yesterday myself by sheer dumb luck. I'm also touched to see u tributed it to a lost pet. I did the same thing with karoma. Named lilly to remember my husky who died last year. It's a good way to remember a pet u truly loved.

Thanks everyone :) Yeah, it was pretty awesome... Got up there, and she was sitting on a floaty rock, looking at me :) I'm so happy to have her. Even put my other original kitty away for now (I keep one empty slot on me at all times... "just in case", heh) as it's nice having her by my side :D Can't wait for after work so I can do some runs with her.

She was a viscious little thing sometimes... (my dad wasn't exactly kind to her... plus, I've heard cats that are hand raised can be a bit more violent anyways) So I specced her accordingly. Every single damage boosting pet talent... Plus Heart of the Phoenix, so she'll never be down again :D

I feel what you have gone thru so well. I lost my cat Tigs to lymphoma cancer a year ago this month. We had been on vacation, and when we came home, he couldn't meow. His cancer was in his throat, and there was no good way we could even consider attacking it. People don't appreciate cats for their quiet resolve, because up until the final days, he acted just like he was fine. He also lives on in my ghost sabers (Gondria, who I named Boukie, my baby name, and now Ankha, who I named TigreAngel) I miss him every day, but I think the best thing about having this site is to see how many others there are like me who love animals so much, and why our hunters and their pets are so special. They are an extension of us. =)

Grats on your tame and I'm sorry for the loss of your poor kitty. It's never easy losing a pet especially one that you saved, raised and cared for as much as you did with Suki. Skarr was waiting for you and it's great that you got her. Suki will now live on not just through your memories, but in another way through Skarr.

Congrats on the tame!

I went through a similar situation with my cat. I had a black cat named Katie who gradually went downhill. Fur started falling out, she began to throw up a lot (eventually throwing up blood), and several other very nasty things. Despite desperately urging my parents to take her to the vet they refused until the poor thing was just a withered husk. Despite all of that though she still purred when she saw me and did her best to keep eating food. Eventually my parents decided she needed to be put to sleep, and they made me bring her in. It was some sort of cancer... I'm still angry about it. The next day Gondria finally spawned for me so I named her Katie.

It's nice to have such a thing to remember a pet by.
