Griefing is at least a warning and you can move up that penalty volcano pretty fast. :> Granted, I only got a warning for telling someone to 'f off' after he made several alts and kept deleting them to harass me.

I think if its a actual petopian who yes did post a strategy to help people tame it, then acts like this, or whatever should be named and flamed. Petopians shouldn't stand for other petopians doing this.Sasrei wrote:The sad thing is though that he spent all that time making strat to make it easier for OTHERS to tame it but wont let anyone tame it on the server? That is.. extremely sad. I know about the no naming/shaming but if this guy is doing it alot AND is a "petopian" I think his name should be out there.
Its really.. sad that the rares have brought out the really bad evil side in people.

Folks, there is a lovely site for that, though I question the logic of schoolyard namecalling somehow making you look better. It's called WoWJackass.com. Look it up, use it. But even it has rules on the wording of the complaint.
As for Petopia, there. Is. A. Rule. Against. Naming. And. Shaming. If you do not respect the rules of this forum, perhaps another would be to your taste, as awful as a pit of flame wars that place would surely be.
Let me give Runty a good home.

No, no, no, and more no.Royi wrote:I think if its a actual petopian who yes did post a strategy to help people tame it, then acts like this, Lethonix or whatever should be named and flamed. Despite the fact this whole thread has been reported already, (I would've if it hadn't been yet.) the rules state no naming and shaming.

Seriously. When you name and shame, you know who's breaking forum rules? You are. Not that guy, you. Looking at the forum rules, nowhere does it say a guy can't hoard rares or prevent other people from getting them. That is a Blizzard matter. When you name and shame, you break the forum rules and are just as likely to be punished. Simple. Deal with the guy in game, but not here, because that's not our job. If the mods want to take action against the hunter the OP speaks about (which, technically, they don't have to,) that is their job. Otherwise, no. Just drop it.

It's still very much against the rules. You should probably edit out his name in your own post, as I have done here as I've quoted you.Royi wrote:I think if its a actual petopian who yes did post a strategy to help people tame it, then acts like this, the hunter or whatever should be named and flamed. No matter what the person has done, rules are still rules. They have the same rights as everyone else. Whether they are arrogant, a jackass, or just plain stupid, they still do not deserve to be named and shamed.
Post it on wowjackass.com. Not. Here.

I basically agree... basically. I think the OP should have, as everyone else has said, omitted the other hunter's name - but PM'ed Mania with the name and details.Azunara wrote:When you name and shame, you know who's breaking forum rules? "But Mania isn't a Blizzard GM!!"
No, but she has been very clear that one of the most important (if not the most important) rule here is treating other Petopians with Respect.
And this raises an interesting question - is that respect purely confined to what happens here at the forums? I would assume mostly but not entirely, else Petopians could stalk eachother in-game, and come back here to brag about it. I would regard this therefore as a gray area inasmuch as I can't recall a previous instance where in-game behavior that was clearly 200% against our basic site ethics was alleged against another Petopian.
So I hope Mania will look into this offline. What action if any she takes is (obviously) entirely her call, but if true, this is a very serious matter and I don't think we should just kick the can down the road without at least giving some serious thought to the whole "what happens in wow stays in wow" thing.

As I said, I trust Mania to handle it offline in a fair manner to all parties.

I think this serves as a lesson to remind us exactly what the forums rules are and how we should be following them.

I would take everything the OP says with a grain of salt at this point, until they can provide proof that what they say is true and stop the shame gaming.

Hey Mr. Fred, I know you have 7 DUI's and 3 2nd degree assault charges on your record, but since those were in the state of Wisconsin, sure you can drive a school bus full of children here in Minnesota, since well you were only breaking Wisconsin laws...

Re: And you thought the rare pet griefers on your server suc
There is no naming and shaming. This matter if for Mania to deal with, should she chose to deal with it. It is not our place to proclaim his name across the boards and shame him.
Okay? Okay. So whatever argument you have, can't apply. Rules are rules are rules. Put it on the many number of sites you can post jerks on. But this isn't one of them. If you continue the whole, "Let's name and shame this guy!

@Worba: I suppose you're right. I guess what I'm saying is that banning this guy would be an extreme punishment, though I could see a warning, just like the OP will likely get for continual breakage of the rules.
@The Whole Guild Accusation: I remember way back when I was learning about types of bias and whatnot, generalization was one of them. And our teacher always told us to be careful about these, because generalizations are nasty things. Accusing the entire guild is like saying all hunters must be stupid and don't know how to play. You have no evidence and are assuming everyone is either doing the act of griefing, or is a hunter and doesn't know how to play. Neither have a safe basis to stand upon.

Yep generalizations suck - your teacher sounds like a wise person.Azunara wrote:@The Whole Guild Accusation: I remember way back when I was learning about types of bias and whatnot, generalization was one of them. And I'm not condoning naming & shaming - as you say, the rules are the rules, and you can't name names. That shouldn't have happened.
My interest in this was mostly concerning the fact that this scenario highlights a gray area in the forum rules. I don't see it as a bad thing that there is a gray area - I see it as a case of rules evolving in response to RL events, and whatever the (offline) outcome, I hope it gets seriously looked at (both in terms of "is this true" and "either way, as a general matter, should members be 100% unaccountable for their in-game actions, even as we post thread after thread decrying the behavior of people in-game")*.
*I had a bit of paralegal training way back, hence why I find this stuff interesting.

And why has it not been deleted yet? Is Mania off-line or something?

Re: And you thought the rare pet griefers on your server suc
That said, it hasn't been deleted because Mania must have real life stuff on her hands and hasn't been around and frankly, if I've said this once, I'll say it again, the way moderation is taken care of these days wasn't much of an improvement of the old days, and if anything, moderation has gotten worse. Threads like these last much longer, gold spam posts last for a while, etc.
And I can understand that, Worba.
