I feel like I stole Solix

After doing my molten front dailies I sit Varethyn up at the first set of floating rocks in hopes of Karkin being there. I've only seen him the once in all the times I've been there only to watch him be tamed by an Alliance because I continuously ping-ponged between graveyards after missing a rock. Again he's still not up, neither is Skarr. While I'm there I eagle eye his other spawn and the spiders' spawn spots to see if anyone is awake. No Skitterflame, no Anthriss, no Deth, no Kirix (though where I stand I'd see him anyway), no Sol- wait, was that movement? /tar sol. Solix is targetted. My heart skips a beat and I launch myself over to his cave. Almost literally.

I'm first there, he must have only just spawned. I take a few moments to study the technique and when I tab back in, a dwarf hunter stands next to me. He waved, so he was friendly enough, and I wave back. He doesn't seem to understand the challenge however, attempting to tame right off the bat. I laid an ice trap and concussive shot the spider for the dwarf to no avail: dwarf dies and I feign. No big deal, I waited for my trap to cool down. Dwarf comes back and now there's a night elf hunter too. We begin taking it in turns attempting the tame, dying many times each (especially the poor dwarf. I wish I could've explained it to him. He left after a while.)

Eventually I corpserun back to find the night elf mid-kite but Solix is catching her up. He's at about 65% energy. I conc shot to help but too late, she died and Solix is now chasing me. I'm about to feign for her when I see his energy is at 40%. Automatically I hit deterrence and tame. 7 seconds later I have an orange lava spider at my side and a night elf crying on my shoulder (I really am sorry! )



I suppose technically I didn't steal him, but I feel bad after the good attempts the Alliance made only to make use of her last kite. I don't know whether I should feel bad despite what happened or be happy that I got the spider I was initially interested in. Of all 5 spiders Solix was the one I had the most interest in when they were announced. I'd tamed Kirix because he spawned for me while I was camping Skarr *hugs Olivine*.

That's a hard thing. I would say that morally, you're covered because you attempted to help both of the other hunters and didn't want to chance him dying in the end. If you weren't helping her, she would not have gotten as far as she did, so there's also that.

Thanks Kalli I hope you're right. I still feel kind of awkward though; this was, believe it or not, my first time kiting something purposely. It feels like I hijacked the other attempt because I'm so bad

I agree with Kalliope--it was a group effort to get Solix to that point, and you went above and beyond helping the NElf so much. If that had happened with me, and the assisting hunter ended up taming, I wouldn't have any animosity toward him at all. The key point is that you helped with multiple attempts, so the other could see you weren't just swooping in on their effort. Grats on your Solix!

Now there's something that a lot of other hunters wouldn't feel. Guilt. I'm glad there are people out there that aren't selfish and greedy in-game just because they're somewhere that no one will ever know who they really are and think they can get away with whatever they like. (That sentence was SO badly written, but it's late and I think you'll get my point at least.) People like you don't come about very often, so well done for being... you.

I don't believe you 'stole' Solix. You and the other two hunters were there for the same reason, and none of you seemed to mind each other being there, so it was all fair in how you took turns trying to tame. If you had just feigned death and let Solix reset, it would have just started all over again. You took advange of the fact that he was already low on health, but the other hunter had died, so you weren't stealing a thing. She was dead, there was nothing she could've done. I know how you could think that you 'stole' it but believe me, I don't think you did.

Technically she died so it becomes fair game after that and you were tryin to help.

I agree with everyone else, you didn't steal him. Everyone got their chance and it just didn't work out for them, but it worked out for you. You did the best that you could, so don't beat yourself up about it. Congrats on your spider!

If it was me, I'd be a little upset, maybe even disappointed, but I'd understand what you did since I died. Grats on your tame, and may he/she serve you well.

Thanks everyone for the kind words I slept on it and while I feel I don't deserve him completely since I effectively used the night elf's kiting, I do feel better knowing I didn't really steal the tame.
I was going to use an alli character to talk to her, but sadly she used an accented letter that I don't know how to replicate.

Perhaps look up part of her name on the armory if you can until she comes up? Then you can just copy and paste the name from the armory into a whisper.

Do a /who for level 85 hunters until you find her and right-click her name. That can work too.

I did find her but she didn't reply. I'll put it down as her being afk at the time, but since its been a few days now I think I'll leave it be.

Don't worry too much about it, she'll soon forget about it and she'll get her own Solix one day if she really wants it. It's not like they don't spawn again.

I've been seeing him up a lot more since people have started unlocking that Shadow Wardens daily in the cave. People have enough trouble taming him without getting beaten on by angry elementals every time they use a frost trap!

me and 2 alliance hunter found karkin, i kept dieing and so did the other alliance hunters finally the alliance hunter got karkin. .... for the last 2 days i have been greeting that hunter warmly as she has me. Same happened with kirix, but i got him. "real hunters" understand that nothing is "theirs" Grats on your tame

banthalos/skarr/thelonewolf/jadefang/deth'liac are still eluding me. my plan is to have as many unique pets as i can minus the spirit beast collection i have. 1 of each though off the "short list" on WHU of raid buff pets.

I've had a pet tamed on me because I died. I didn't get mad at the person, because if you die then they have the right to try as well.

I just had something similiar pop, and I feel like shit.
I went into the front and eagle eyed deth's spot and there he was so I went over there.
When I got there, another hunter was in the process of taking it down, so I decided to help, but there were two alliance there too. A paladin and a mage. They were hitting deth, and the hunter did a nice job, but at some point she died. I had dismissed my own pets a few moments before I noticed she died, so I wouldn't kill deth with another sacrifice, because at that point, he had 11k health left.

Anyway, the hunter was dead, the pala and mage was in combat with it. I decided to try and tame it, since she died, and because of the low health, it would have been killed otherwise. I completed the tame, and died. So, needless to say, I feel like I stole the tame, but I also feel like I saved it from a useless death.

Deth was the only spider I actually wanted, and I have been looking since I helped another hunter off with the tame shortly after the patch hit. >.<

In this case she died so its fair game and you shouldnt feel bad. However if you had taken aggro from her with her still living and tamed then yeah.. I'd feel like that was a tame steal BUT you didnt and were trying to help! Grats on your spider
