*sigh* 8 hour camp, and no Ankha to show for it.

Unread post by Gimlion »

This world hates me when it comes to rares. I started my camp up by the oh-so familiar Yellow Tree, just like any other day, only this time, I was determined to camp out until the spawn. I started at 3:30 server time (5:30 my time/Central time), and my hunt just paused at 11:15 server, 1:15 my time, so an 8 hour hunt, aprox.

I was a bit concerned I would miss the spawn as I was checking up on Deth's spawn every 20-30 minutes, and then would fly back to the tree. Unfortunately, Deth was killed by a couple of Horde bigots (who I know personally as douche-mongers) as an Alliance hunter was taming at aprox 7 server time. I talked to the hunter, and she was very bummed out about this whole ordeal, and said that she was still after one pet, Magria.

Being after Ankha, I told her that I was camping the spot until I got a spawn. She seemed saddened by this, but asked if I was after Magria, or Ankha. I told her that Magria was already tamed by me about 2 days ago, and that she was free to keep the blue Kitty if she spawned. So, I invited her, and told her that I was prepared to stay up all night to get a timer/spawn, and she said she stick around too.

4 hours roll by after Deth's kill, it is now 11 ish, me playing pokemon and reading Smosh Pit with NPCscan/WoW tabbed out in the back. I get a whisper, asking If I'd seen anything. I told her no, but to hold on for just a bit, b/c it was bound to spawn anytime. I go back to reading smosh when I hear the massive Drums playing. I tab back into WoW, and my Heart sank as Magria, the beast I wasn't after, strode past me. I messaged the other hunter, however, and she came by and snagged up her precious blue Kitten. She was SO pleased after losing Deth, that she named Mag after me. I thought this was extremely neat, thanked her, and we added eachother to friends list before logging off.

Now, I have approximately an Hour and a half before the 6 hour 'minimum' for Deth's timer is up. What I want to know is, It's currently 1:35 here, and I'm exhausted, but should I try and wait out Deth's spawn timer, and end the night with a tame, or should I just go to bed, knowing that I'm likely to miss the spawn, and restart fresh tomorrow?

If I start fresh tomorrow, I'll be able to get up around 7, and start my Ankha camp again, as that will be close to the 6 hour mark, but also more than likely miss Deth. However, if I don't start fresh, and stay up for Deth, I could get a purple spider out of it, but would likely be too tired to get up for Ankhas 'min' spawn. What should I do?

aw thats sweet she did that and you got ahold of her about mag :) i know the feeling of seeing mag spawn and not ankha :( I love both ankha and deth such great pets. I see where that could be a hard decisioin. Is there anyone who could help you camp? there are some things you can look at when decideing-
1) who do you want the most
2) who would be the easier camp ( ie who is camping what the most)
3) chance mag showing again and loose out on deth

i would say that is tuff, you could go after deth but there is a chacne ankha would spawn, and if you want on the kitties there is a chance mag will spawn. so it could all boil down to: who do you want first? Unless you keep going back and fourth checking... ( i know i am not the greatest help) Not sure how it is on your server but i notice the kitties on ours dont seem to spawn any ealier then 9 hours..

but yes get some sleep :)

I feel your pain, I've had the same problem with Krush, except a little muted.

First attempt at camping (during Wrath, mind you), finally find him after days of on and off fly-by looking. He gets killed by a DK, I rage and forget about him over time.

I finally get my troll hunter up to 85, decide to go after Krush again and he gets killed by a guildy while I'm leveling archaeology. I rage some more, get over it after punching sheep on minecraft for awhile.
Park my troll's butt on Krush's spawnpoint by the pillar (don't remember the name ;c) and log off. Log on a couple hours later to be greeted by a dead Krush body.
I mean, really Karma? If you don't want me to tame the damned green monster just tell me outright so I stop losing sleep over it. ;A;

As for your sleep problem, I say get some shut-eye. You're likely to be less jittery and much much less likely to mess up the tame if you manage to fumble it.

The cats are by far easier to camp. They have one spawn point, and it's very unknown on my server. I do like flying over it, and being able to fly into Molten Front to Eagle Eye up to Deth's spawn. I think I have to agree on the sleep. I'm alot more tired than I thought I was. I'll start fresh tomorrow, and who knows, maybe my luck will change and Deth will be a later spawn timer this time around.

There are a few that could help me camp, sorta. The Hunter that I helped tame Magria said she'd be on the lookout for Ankha for me, as she frequented Hyjal often. I also have a friend Hunter from the biggest Raiding guild on my server, but He's a hordie, and it'd be hard for us to communicate effectively.

Even when my main guild was still on the server, they likely wouldn't have been able to help too much. Many of the hunters in my guild are NOT of Petopian mindsets, but it doesn't matter too much, as they are all on a different server now.

And as to which I like best, I personally like both of them equally. That's why I can't decide on which I want to camp for. But I do think that sleeping is a wise idea, so I'll see all of you folks in the AM, with my Cache Cleared, and Pokemon Platinum ready to go, I'm all set for more camping on my day off football.

What I fear most, is getting both of these tames, and then starting up the Loque circles again... I have vowed to myself that I will never enter Sholazar again after I obtain Loque on Gimlion. I swear, 2 years of the same trees and pillars, in the same clockwise fashion, day in and day out. It's drving me batty just thinking of the place. D:

I camped nearly ten hours for Skarr the other night. No other hunters around, so I fancied my chances. Had to give in and sleep in the end!

Hey Caa! No problem. We made a deal, and you got your cat on the spawn. Idk how much I'll be online today, thinking about making this my camping break/day off, but if I'm on, and one of those buggers is up, feel free to whisper, if I'm not flying around there anyways.

Did you ever get Deth? I didn't really see if you logged off, so I was wondering if you waited out the timer for him or not. If you didn't get him, feel free to whisper me if he's up and I'll come help you with the tame.

LOL I'm not alone!!

THREE days so far, this being the fourth... at the least 11 hours a day... sitting by the darn yellow tree.

I've met some amazingly wonderfully nice Hordies and Alliance... helped rehome like 5 Magria's... and last night made the server restart kick me offline...

No Ankha....

I really feel that cat, or the RNG hates me ::grin::

Thank you for the warm welcome to the forum, Kalliope! I didn't go after Deth last night Gim, I was too distraught and tired to wait it out. But, thanks for the help offer. Deth will be my ULTIMATE tame! I think I will keep taking trips over to "the basin" because you made a promise to yourself not to go back. (of course, unless Loq is waiting for you)

Just wish ther was a way of knowing when it is tamed *for sure* when you're not THERE so I know where the timer was LOL

Would I be out of line to suggest that I wish they were even harder to get than they are?

I spent months camping Loque starting at level 76, one late night I couldn't sleep and went to do some mining, I nearly had a heart attack to look down and see it pathing below me when I wasn't seriously looking. I was high on adrenaline for 2 days. Same with Gondria, I must have circled its spawn points 5000 times before I saw it, and I appreciate them because they were so hard to get.

Skoll I got the first night I tried and then saw about 5 times afterwards, twice I couldn't even find anyone to give it away to and it went down my list because it didn't seem hard to get or rare to me. Same with Arcturis, got him first day. Karoma was another, I REALLY wanted that one after trying and failing so many times to get the spirit wolf and coming so close, I was with a very selfish kinda guild with players that got angry after two or three taming attempts and wandered off - I was bummed every time I saw that pet. I prepared the camp and flew over the spawn points to learn them - and there he was just standing there. Drop, tame. mine. I still love the skin, but I'd probably appreciate it much more if I had to endlessly search for it like I did Loque, Gondria and a few others that didn't cooperate.

Finally got Ban'thalos after 5 spottings and about 11 taming attempts, that one I will like. haven't even seen Ankha or Magria spawn yet. I'll appreciate them a lot too I'll bet the way it is going. :D

When yo uget Anhka after this, you will appreciate all that much more..

I did the same thing with Deth, only longer...10-12 hours sitting in one spot each day (Sadly, I am currently unemployed, so I can do this. -.-) and I saw Deth get ganked by a dbag, killed, or tagged by another hunter sooner (I will not steal a tame or even try if someone else has tagged it, so if I happen to afk and someone else gets it, kudos to them, I won't steal their tame, I was afk after all).

As for Ankha, I haven't even SEEN him spawn yet. Got Magria out of sheer dumb luck. Didn't even try camping her. Same with Skarr, Karkin, and Kirix. Deth is the only one I actively camped. I DID get him eventually, thanks to a warlock's help dpsing. It seems Magria spawns more than Ankha on Runetotem. I saw her spawn twice in a row on their spawn points, and have only seen one hunter to date with Ankha as a pet. Only seen three with Magria (one is me) but she still seems to spawn more.
Part of Dark Magics, lvl 25 Horde guild, casual, helpful, don't raid, mostly help people and hunt pets.
Part of Dynasty, lvl 25 Alliance guild, casual and hardcore (your choice, no one forces you to raid, but you can), very helpful
Come on over if interested (Runetotem US, Horde name Sarantha, Ally name Ellysetta or Valeraud)
