Top five pets based on skills!!
Hey all, newbies back again!!
I'm just trying to decide which pet families to take along with me on my adventures and was wondering what the communities thoughts were.
Which five pets, based on skills, do you carry with you at all times?
Cheers

If I'm doing dungeons I will take
Zim- Ravager
Artashir- Cat
Dragonhawk
Tink- Raptor
Fell- Wolf
I consider these to be the main ones to cover for the buffs.

Re: Top five pets based on skills!!
Depends on what you are doing really, and what spec you are in, what level you are, and how concerned you are about buffs and such.
Also, the way pets have been balanced out, the only thing you need to worry about it the buff and the appearance-all ferocity pets, at the same level and talent pointed the same way should do about the same amount of damage per second. Same with the other two groups. A lot of it is personal preference at the lower levels-you don't need to worry about buffs and such until you are getting into hard core raiding if you ask me.
If you are soloing, just doing quests on your own, you want to have at least one tenacity pet and one ferocity, at least in my book. The ferocity so you can burn down mobs quicker, and then tenacity pet to keep them off you if you are fighting a large group.
If you are on a PvP server or are playing PvP, you want to look at the cunning pets and what skills they have. Spiders tend to be a big fave because of their web ability, but ravagers are good as are others, depending on the situation.
If you are in instances, you want to have at least one good ferocity pet at the least to use. The tank should keep mobs off you (though at low levels you can pull aggro off a tank pretty quick because hunters can hit really hard then). A back up pet you should bring with you, if you can, is a tank pet as well. Do NOT use it as your pet for the entire run, but, if something happens and you see the tank die, a quickly summoned tank pet can save the rest of your group from wiping.
All that said, it really is a matter of preference-except some people say, at end game content. I wouldn't worry about it at the lower levels, you should, though, try one of each pet type and see what works best for your play style. I for one hated carrion birds for the longest time, though recently on my lowest leveled hunter, I've come to adore mine.
On my 85 BM Hunter, Shade, I usually use:
Spirit Beast
Devilsaur
Core Hound
Raptor/Hyena
Shale Spider/Crab
On my 77 BM Hunter, Kitsune, I use:
Devilsaur
Rhino
Spirit Beast
Fox/Cat
On my 67 BM Hunter, Gypsi, I tend to use:
Wolf
Bear
Cat
Spider
On my 32 BM Hunter, Sidhe, I tend to use two of these three, depending on what I am doing:
Cat
Carrion Bird
Crocolisk/Scorpid

Re: Top five pets based on skills!!
I generally tend to run with the same few pets, no matter what.
Judecca (Wolf)
Tephras (Raptor)
Avernus (Cat)
Veles (Dragonhawk)
Lethe (Warp Stalker)
Despite her being tenacity, I just keep Lethe in my active queue at all times. She's my baby and I like having her around when I can. Plus, she's good in a pinch, IMO. Other than that, I sometimes swap in an owl for disarm.
I would run with a hell bug (Ravager), but I just don't see them with my hunter at all. : /

Re: Top five pets based on skills!!

Hadouken - Spirit Beast
Lemmy or Umbergore - Wolf
Torque - Boar
...and that's it 98% of the time. I don't really do dungeons anymore, but that covers the buffs I prefer when soloing + a tank pet. I'm leveling my archaeology, so I like to keep a bunch of pet slots open for spur of the moment tames. I prefer to keep a cat on me so I can go Survival as well, but I can't find one I like. :s

Re: Top five pets based on skills!!
I always have:
Spirit Beast - Agility/Strength buff and a heal
Silithid - Stam buff, web
Devilsaur - Crit buff
*Fourth and fifth slots are left empty for taming pets on the fly or have vanity pets when I'm not raiding. If I'm raiding, a Corehound(Lust/Heroism) and a Ravager(physical damage buff), or a Chimaera(AOE pulls) goes here.

Re: Top five pets based on skills!!
For me, it depends on just what's going on. If I'm out and grinding, then I generally don't focus too much. I just look at my stable, go 'Who needs an outing?', and take the pets out to reassess my bond (or lack thereof) with them. It's how I make sure my stable doesn't need whittling down, and become aware when it does. I almost always have Panzer, though, for my tanking needs (and because, well, he's Panzer) and a spirit beast (in case heals are needed).
For dungeons, I temper it to the group. If I'm in a guild group, I check and double-check who is there and what they have, and bring the buff that we're missing.
For a PUG, my lineup generally consists of the following:
Core Hound (heroism)
Shale Spider (Kings)
Devilsaur (+5% crit)
Ravager (+4% physical damage)
Spirit Beast (Str/Agi buff)
I've been known to bring along my Dragonhawk (+8% spelldamage) as well, but a party full of spellcasters will almost always contain someone who has a +spell damage buff, so I rarely worry as much about it as I do the physical.
In PVP (world PVP and battlegrounds; I don't do arenas) I only use two pets: Spirit Beast and/or Crocolisk. People swear by Spiders, but I value the slowing higher than I do the root, my own personal self.
