Solix... You could have been mine... And now you are!

So, I've decided I want Solix... Orange is my favourite colour, and as far as spiders go, the lava ones aren't too creepy looking. I'd be more than willing to tame a common version, but there aren't any. I'm not much into camping, so I just check it out every once and a while. I decided to try and time my checks after knowing when the server came back on, and.. I was right on... Only problem is I was apparently literally not even 5 minutes too late Asked in general if anyone had seen her, and was told someone had KILLED her a few minutes ago... After my luck earlier today, I would have hoped it would continue, but I guess you can only stretch it too far.

At least I heard she died from a failed tame, and not from someone just being a jerk... Putting this here in the hope it will turn into a "yay" thread, heh. Maybe I'm asking too much. My luck has been pretty good the past month or 2 (after several YEARS of no rares...). Loque, Terrorpene, Krush, Aotona, Ghostcrawler, Skarr.. Albino Ostrich (strider), Raven Lord... But I wants the pretty orange spider!

Update: Logged in to do my molten front dailies, and soon as i get in I see someone announcing in general that Solix is up.. So I run. Like mad. Almost screaming in general "Please don't kill! I'll pay!". I get there.. try.. die VERY fast (even with CS, and trap, and cheetah she seemed to catch me, but maybe I did something wrong...) So I try again.. die again.. I think I was just to slow on the running after shooting... Then a hunter offers to help by laying some traps. And it goes REALLY well. Drops down to 40.. I hit tame... It's going... going... going... less than half the cast left... AND I LOSE AGGRO! I panic... start letting my autoshots go, begging.. "please please please!!!!" spamming tame.. (I forgot where my distracting shot was) and watched her focus slowly dwindle to nothing At least now I know when she should spawn again... Sadly.. it's in the 4-6 EST timeframe.. hopefully it being a bit busier won't be a problem... I'll probably watch some netflix and just sit and wait for those 2 hours. If anyone plays on Llane and wants to help/keep me company.. I'll be there 3:30-6pm server time! I'm hoping I'll be able to solo it next time... Not sure where I went wrong before.

I believe the spawn timers have been drastically increased. I remember Deth'tilac spawning 2 hours after his death pre-hotfix, and now I've camped his spot for up to 12 hours without seeing him once. Solix is never really tried for on my server. When I DID try and go after him, he was just sitting in the lava waiting for me. When he was close to tamable, some dbag comes and pulls aggro off me and Solix eats his face due to not yet being tamable even tho the dbag thought he was, and I kited him a bit more, and tamed him easily with barely going below half health.

I tried to help a fellow hunter tame him earlier, only for a brain-dead pala from the opposite faction to come along and start hitting it with crusader strike as Solix's energy dropped and dropped and dropped to nothing.

Yeah, the guy that was helping me said that he's pretty sure it's most likely 6-8 hours now for Solix. He was right about many of the other spiders coming up at about the same time as Solix... So I figure no harm in trying. I've just been sitting here in the protection rune all day while doing my chores, the occasional heroic, playing other games on my other monitor, and I might go watch some netflix til she spawns again.

Hopefully I'll be more prepared this time... That was my first time seeing her... SO I kind of spazzed... Didn't have buttons set up for the tame.. Had no idea where my distracting shot was (I hardly ever use it.. ) Tame beast was on another bar other than the one I was using.. So considering how disorganized I was.. it went pretty well.. Hopefully I'm more prepared this time.. I've got CS, frost trap, tame beast, and then distracting shot (just in case) in the 1-4 slots of one of my action bars... All prepared and ready for another go...

She's the only one of the spiders I really want, and one of the 2 4.2 rares I want to get (Already got my Skarr, see my previous post if you're interested in that story ). Thought the spiders looked cool, but nothing that really screamed at me. I remember thinking "If only there was an orange one... Then I'd HAVE to have it..." and then a couple days later I discovered the announcement of Solix, heh.

Hehe. I felt that way about Kirix and Deth. As soon as I saw them, I knew I'd go to any lengths (beyond ganking a tame from someone else) to get them. Kirix was my first, and I love him to death. Deth was the last rare I got and the hardest due to gankers. Black and green is just an awesome color scheme and I felt the same way about Kirix that you felt about Solix.

I did want to add though, I don't think you need to worry about having distracting shot ready. I thought all 10 challenge beasts become immune to this (as well as other taunts) in a hotfix shortly after the patch. Did I read that wrong?

They are all immune, but in my experience, you need not have aggro to tame him. As a DK, I helped a horde hunter tame him by keeping chains of ice on him constantly and slowing him (I was ally this time) all the while I had aggro. The horde hunter was able to tame him easily.

You to need to have aggro to tame. The tooltip itself says that if "you lose the beast's attention for any reason the tame will fail"... And that's what happened. My aggro dipped below 100%.. and Solix ran off to whoever got aggro as SOON as that happened... And I couldn't retame. If I had been able to keep taming for even another 2 seconds (or not even that long) she would have been mine... I didn't remember the immune to taunts thing... Damn... I'll have to put something else where my distracting shot is then... maybe arcane shot.. just in case..

Not sure what happened in your situation... Maybe a bug, or something. If it was intended.. I'm seriously sad.. cause that means Solix SHOULD have been mine...

It might've been a bug, but my DK definitely kept aggro on Deth almost the entire time while the hunter dps'd. Only at the last minute right before he was down to tamable health did I let up and the taming spell brought aggro to the hunter. It definitely could have been a bug. There are many bugs this patch, like the "taming while tagged" bug which leads to SO much griefing that its not funny.

SHE'S MINE! I sat there all day... literally.. The only time I've ever actually campped something.. but I knew when she last spawned.. so... I couldn't pass it up... I figured, she should be up before bed! I got really bored.. i have a really short attention span. In the end, I resorted to just spamming my /target rares macro with my back to my computer while watching Expedition Impossible.

Turn back to chat on guild about WHY I'm so quiet... They're all "sounds fun" and I'm all "It will be if my spidey spawns!".... not even 2 minutes later there she was!

So.. I take a few big breaths this time... lay my first trap, and take the cooldown to calm myself further... cooldown is done, so I send off CS.. run.. drop another trap, and round and round I go! I remember thinking while running "OH NOES! Can't shoot CS backwards! It's gonna eat me!!!" I get around just past my starting point.. and the buff drops! I try and find my tame button... find it.. start spamming... Not in range yet... Then someone jumps in and tries to steal my tame! I'm thinking it was a troll... I keep spamming my tame button til it starts... She's running right for me.. I remember thinking "Oh please oh please..." remember I forgot to drink my hast elixir... Hoping desperately I don't die... And then she shrinks.. And my first thought was "BLEEPING TROLL!"... but she ran to me! HAH!

Instead of shock this time though.. my first reaction was to "/yell NO STEALY MAH 'PIDAR!!" (So if you were on Llane in the last half hour... yes, t'was me )

I'm all exicted though.. My Pydar has now come home, yay! Yay for orange spidies!

I felt the same way about Karkin. It was an accidental tame, meaning I hadn't set out to tame him and was just in the area farming earth motes for leatherworking from the punishers up there, when I spotted him and gave it a shot taming it. Few other horde hunters were wanting it, but had failed miserably several times, even after I told them how to do it, they still ended up falling off rocks. So I jumped to a stable rock and pulled with tame beast, silence shot, then tame beast again, no haste pots. He hit me with two fireballs (not fieroclast, which would have killed me dead) since I wasn't using any haste buffs since I had no intention of taming him, but suddenly right before the fireball of death goes off, he shrinks and somehow leaps the rocks to come running to my side. Yay for weird bugs?
