My stable and stories (pic heavy)

Unread post by Splaticus »

With the addition of Skarr to my stables last night, I feel my journey for pets has been completed for now. Its an odd feeling, I have been working so hard at getting companions I know I love and making things balanced. I have a well rounded out stable full of beasts that I love. I wanted to show it and tell the stories behind some of the animals. And bare with me, I know you guys have seen these creatures many times and have them yourselves but I need to express my magnum opus!

Be warned, some of the names of pets of past I will mention are crude but nothing terrible. Just wanted to put that out there, once upon a time I was young and dumb :p

I played beta for The Burning Crusade, of which I made a hunter. Back in the beginning of it the dragonhawks in Eversong were the jet black unused model you can find on the dragonhawk page. They were AWESOME. But right before it went live they changed the model to the orange one that is there currently and I lost all interest in them. My real goal was however to tame Shy'rotam as soon as I could. I thought the skin was absolutely beautiful and it was its own "challenge tame" for the time. She was was a pain in the butt to tame and everything had to be timed just right.

When I made my hunter when it went live I wanted a special pet right off the bat. After searching through petopia I decided to go after a non-rare but unique for such a low level black scorpion in the orc starting lands. Jeebus, as I named him was my first love, and I ran my level 10 heiney down to kalimdor to get him as soon as I could.
Image

Then there was Tuberculosis who got me all the way to 60. He was an amazing little boar from Razorfen Kraul, and I love his little snuffle shuffle.
Image

Then there was Shy'rotam. I tamed her all on my own and was so proud of myself. Something us horde had access to and alliance hunters begged for over the forums, for one of us to have mercy and do the quest so they could tame it. I still to this very day have never completed it, just in case the unthinkable happens and I need to tame her again. Here you will see her name is Splat, I have changed that recently. It is my cats actual name IRL. When I tamed her I named her CamelToe though. Oh hoho I thought I was so clever- Atomicwedgie and CamelToe. I am almost embarassed to admit this lol. Unfortunately she doesn't see much daylight outside the stables anymore but should I ever need space in my stables, rares I sat and stared at the screen till I made myself sick will go long before this beast.
Image

Then there was Dinner :). I love this big cuddly puppy. He too is the only other installation to my stables that will never be abandoned. Since I quit raiding in the past few months he hasn't seen much action either. But it's nice to know that if I ever do he will be there waiting for me ready for action. He's just too beautiful and unless a wolf comes along shooting literal lazers and lays golden eggs I can vendor for tons of gold, this will be the only one for me.

LilDukyJamal is no longer with me, I set him free begrudgingly a while ago.
Image
This bird had my heart for a very long time. I loved the colors, but what I loved the most was how the melee would scream OMG MAKE THE BIRD STOP SCREECHING in raids. Glorious. If you don't know who lil ducky jamal is watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC_xAcuHxgg the humor is a bit odd but its safe for everyone, though may not be funny to everyone :)

These 3 remained my companion for a long time, and although my hunter was my second to 80 in wrath I literally did not play him for a year and a half. I picked him back up right before cataclysm hit and the advent of the gigantic stables. This is when my hunt for the spirit beasts began. Unfortunately I had no such luck until after cataclysm hit, but there stories are for later on. My hunter became my main at the very end of WOTLK.

I thought foxes were adorable, and I couldn't wait for them to be released. It was exciting to see a whole new family all together. So me and my roomate who is also a hunter decided to make the miserable trip to Loch Modan and get ourselves an Ashtail. He got his while I was still at work and waited for me. There was an alliance hunter there with a paladin, and my hunter was puny and no match for end game raiding/ pvp gear. We tried to keep our distance and I let him take the next Ashtail spawn with no hassle from ourside. What do I get for that and cheering when he got it? They killed us and camped us for about 15 minutes. Then I swear Ashtail would never spawn again, taking the maximum time allowed for his spawn lol. But i got him and now my Binky dances for you.
Image

First of the spirit beasts was Peabody. I got him fairly quickly quickly after his release, which shocked me. I thought hunters would have been crawling all over his barren little spawning grounds. I was so proud and happy. I had gone looking on my hunter on rare occasion throughout wrath to see if I could find one of these sparkle beasts, but at last I finally had one.
Image

Then there was Loque, oh beautiful Loque. When ever I had a spare moment I would go do a few fly bys but never anything to show for it. Then one early early morning, I go to sholozar and fly around hovering my mouse over beasts on my minimap as I fly. I hadn't heard of npcscan yet. It blipped ever so fast but I saw it! I was so pleased by this beast, whenever I pvp'ed and used beastial wrath, Loque was quite a sight to behold. Thats why I named her DoomsDay.
Image

Shortly after I quit raiding in Cata I started leveling a druid alt to pvp on. Gondria was the absolute last spirit beast I would have cared to get. Loved Skoll, loved Arcturis, but this cat was too.... purple. Sure enough Harkoa sends me to go get the blood of Mamtoth, and who's there? AAWWOOOOOOOOGAH npcscan goes off, oh dear. I had no idea what to do, but realzing my good luck after a few seconds of staring at Gondria I decided to make a beeline for Zul'Drak on my hunter. Don't get me wrong I love my Gondria now, and I use her often and she's not just collecting dust. But that's how she got her name Sigh, she was an obligatory tame.

This was my first time being full time beast mastery, I was always gung-ho marksman. I leveled as mm, I raided as mm, I pvped as mm. I always thought of BM as being for noobs. But now I love it and I wanted to round out my stables with a variety of pets for utility. When I decided to get a worm, I saw the gold one and immediately said that's the one. Then I look it up on wow head and find out the only 2 in existance are rares with long spawn timers. Oh boy, and I made a sad face. I had to move across 2 states only 2 days after Cata's release. I had my laptop with me and prayed the hotel had internet on the last night of the trip. It did, and I decided to log on just to do a fly over. Grubthor was there waiting for me. It made the night so much more pleasant, and I went to sleep happy because of my new pet and happy there was only one more day of driving left. I also could not not name him Goldmember, it was one of my family's favorite movies to watch.
Image

I was looking for something unusual and I saw the spawned bird you had to jump through a hoop or 2 to tame and looked amazing. Granted TheWord isn't the best name ever but it fits.
Image

I then decided it was finally time to get a core hound. I had tried out beast mastery when they first realsed the exotic animal tame talent. I was like lololololol. I decided to run to azuremyst and get the 2 headed dog, not being very fond of the old school core hound. This was the worst pet I ever had up until that point. It made the screen bounce and shake, and was loud, and glitched so bad. Now that all this has been fixed and the addition of ancient hysteria, I decided to get one and that only an old school core hound from Molten Core (that was also a bit challenging if they feared while taming) would be acceptable for me. I have been playing this game for a very long time and I am very nostalgic. I imagine my core hound is playful like a poodle, so I named him Fifi :)
Image

I had Scabs, the red firefly up until recently. I thought it was absolutely awesome the way he was colored and left a trail of what I called "sparkle farts" :p.
Image
I also had Princess Huhu. Oh I had so much fun with my friend running to tame her and it was even more fun when I saw that she was HUUUUUUGE. It was very hard for me to let her go but I needed space in the past couple of days and she is normal sized now. Farewell Humongous.
My current wasp is one that I love and I am thankful they put in the game. I'm not sure why but he looked like a Uranus so thats what I named him.
Image

I was impressed by how much pets had changed from the beginning of wrath until the end. I needed a windserpent of dragonhawk at the beginning of cata for the magic buff in raiding since Survival was where its at. I wasn't too keen on the flying snakes, but my Mermaid captured my heart and got my roomate killed in SWP while trying to tame it lol.
Image

This is about the time I quit playing for a few months just recently. I came back for firelands sort of, they gave me 7 days of free game time and it was just enough to get me hooked and several rares and wanting to pay for another month ~.~

Before I had left, I wanted Madexx more than anything. I was flying out to get the uldum fire for the festival on my druid and something catches my eye. A big ole ugly brown Madexx. I had just tamed a Dante from firelands. It was late at night and I stared at it for seriously 2 minutes. Ugh brown. But I logged over and tamed him on my hunter and released the old TwinkleToes back into the wild. I know he's not unique but I'm happy with my Madexx, I know who is really was and that's good enough for me.
Image

I decided to start rounding out my collection of other pets and trying for spirit beasts again. I didn't have Skoll and that was driving me insane.

After a year of looking in the wrong place I finally found my Skoll. I named him Bounce, it's a bit obscure of a reference. He seems all static-y, and I immediately thought of the old Bounce dryer sheet commercials where the ladie's skirt was stuck to itself showing her slip.
Image

I found Arcturis by chance just before Skoll, he's my "bear Buns" ;)
Image

I collected minipets on my Paladin who was my main, he has near 100 pets. The one I could never seem to get my grubby little hands on or afford was the hyacinth mccaw. So after quite a while of looking I finally got a big one as consolation.
Image

Olm the Wise was very surprising to me. I always thought "ew" everytime I saw his picture on petopia. But last week I decided to go look at him in game. He wasn't there, so I tried again a few days later, and there he was! I was amazed by how awesome he looks. I know alot of people love Banthalos for the wing streamers and how bright he is, but that type of stuff tends to annoy me more than impress me. Hurts my eyes. However, Olm had this understated beauty about him and was so detailed.
Image

I also just recently tamed Sambas, who reminds me a lot of alliance. I have always been true to horde and that is where my heart will always lie, even though I have had a couple ally alts in the past both have been faction changed. He is probably the only one I still have not completely bonded with yet.
Image

There is another thread about my recent new found love for the chimaera, so I will just post a shot of me and my ToiletPaper :p Here is how he got his name:
"I don't know what to name my new chimaera" (to my roommate)
"What color is he?"
"White"
"Toilet paper."
lol
Image

I had tamed a hot pink snake when they were first released, but for some reason he just fell short of my love and I released him. I find the white one to be much more fitting. Should I ever raid again, he will probably be one of my top choices to use.
Image

I tamed Gezzarak because I always thought she was real neat looking, but was sad by the time I found out about her she was untamable. Now I have added her to my collection and use her often in BG's. I named her Skrillex because she reminds me of a gogo dancer under a black light at a rave.
Image

Me and my fatty Terrorpene, whom I also happened to catch on chance :)
Image

I wasn't sure about my Jadefang when I tamed her, but now I would't have it any other way. And I felt a little guilty when I found her a second time for the minipet, felt bad for killing her with herself.
Image

And that brings us to the final 2 beasts, both fireland's creations.

Magria makes me happy on many levels. I've spoken about my love for Shy'rotam, but being BM I feel it's silly not to use an exotic pet. It's like my Shy has been reborn and fights by my side super sayan style. At first I was all gung ho for Ankha, but my chance encounter with Magria has left me feeling a little more complete as a hunter. Her name is my cat's nick name IRL, well my cat is lil beebs lol.
Image

I cannot believe I actually got Skarr. I have loved the model, as I am sure we all have since we saw the stable master's pet in storm peaks so long ago. It was super late at night and the only hunters there were me and a guy I had befriended in the hunt for the new beasts. I only had 20 min before I had to leave to pick up my roomate from work, and then there he was. I had no idea where he was actually at though! I started to run to the other side and my friend was like no no he's down here! I bit the big one trying to tame him the first time, and ended up killing both me and my friend. I scrambled back and luckily Skarr was just sitting there chilling. I pulled with the silencing shot and then during the tame my friend hit him with another. I named him HeartAttack because well... I am sure thats exactly what happened to all of us who have seen him or tamed him.
Image

Sorry that was a bit lengthy, but I can say I am satisfied by both my beasts and their variety in utility completely. It's been a long time, probably BC since I have felt I have accomplished everything with my pets that I have wanted to. I hope you enjoyed reading my wall of text and whats behind my bond for all my beasts.

Thanks to Kurenio for the texted ruin of lordaeron sig!

Enjoyed reading your pet history. Some of those pet names really made me giggle. I personally don't pick silly names for my hunters pets (I go for RP names) But I do find it funny to see some of the strange names hunters pick for their pets. So random! ;)
