Extra Gondria?

Unread post by Colgaran »

A friend of mine asked to see some of the rare and unique skinned pets I have, so I asked here to meet me by the Stable Master in the Dwarven District and I proceed to show off some of my pets. All goes well, she takes off and I continue about my own business. A few hours later I go to my stable to switch out some of my pets and I notice that I have an unnamed Spirit Beast in my stable with the same skin as Gondria. Now, I always name my pets, and I never have two of the same pet. I pull it out and I pull out my "real" Gondria that I tamed during LK. Same model. The unnamed one has no talent points allocated, and I have no idea where it came from. Thoughts anyone? Anyone have a similar experience?

My first question is, have you got any other Spirit Beasts or even cats in your stable?

...Maybe Gondria had kittens...

ROFL! Yes, I actually have all the Spirit Beasts except the new ones from patch 4.2, the rare spawn lion from Twilight Highlands, and the ghostly kitty that spawns from looting those cat figurines.

technically speaking, any pet you pull from the stables will have no talent points anyway. no? they get wiped when you stable a pet.

The talent points isn't what concerns me. What concerns me is that there is an new pet in my stable that I did not tame! I submitted a ticket concerning the issue.

That is actually a very outdated mechanic, which as far as I'm aware, never even made it through Beta/PTR... Though, I could be wrong.

It appears you are correct.

Although I wouldn't exactly call it "very outdated"... how long have we had the larger stables?
To me "very" implies considerably more than a year.

Did they ever officially "announce" that this mechanic was no longer applicable?
I thought I was following patch notes relatively closely, and still clearly remember the concept of wiping talent points for stabled pets being the official concept.

If you check this thread from nine months ago, you would see that the mechanic of wiping talent points was still standard in the game. (just saying for the "very outdated mechanic" statement)

Yeah, it's early. lol

But for me, the stable has never cleared my pet talents, so that's why I assumed it never made it to live.

Did you ever submit a ticket about getting a pet back? I once submitted a ticket to get Arcturis back, never heard anything about the ticket, but a few weeks later without notice I had two Arcturises in my stables

I think i abandoned the ticket after I had found Arc again in the world, but even though I abandoned the ticket, they still somehow put another Arcturis in my stable

No, I didn't. 'Tis a complete mystery to me.

i always pictured both of those spirit beasts as male. Arcturis can go either way, Gondria female. Loque could technically be considered a female mate of Har'koa, but then I don't know if being considered someones mate has to imply that its a heterosexual relationship.

Then again maybe spirit beasts are like the Asari (from Mass Effect). All female but they can mate with any gender.

It used to be that you could verify a pet's NPC ID from the armory... but either I'm doing something wrong or that's been changed...? :?

That was the old Armory; you could view page source & see the IDs. The coding's a lot more complex now :(

I'm guessing it's just a database glitch. I breifly had two of one pet, one of which overwrote my King Krush, iirc, but it vanished shortly thereafter & all was normal.

And re: stabling wiping pet talents; I'd heard people complaining about it back when, but even then I'd never seen it happen to any of my own pets :S

It actually did this for a short period of time right after the patch that changed up the talent trees. It didn't last long, thank god. It was a hassle to respec every single time you wanted to run with something new for a little while. I chalk it up to not being in the patch notes as one of those things they just 'fix' without telling anyone. It's not the first time they've done something like that or they didn't feel it necessary to write one silly sentence saying 'oh yeah, we fixed your stables so they don't wipe talents now. Praise us.' xD

Well, there's still script code - just ensure Gondria, Ankha and Magria are all loaded into NPC_Scan, close game, clear your cache, restart, and the addon should tell you who it is.

For lore geeks, Har'koa is a female and Loques a male (Zul'Drak quest lines give the cat god a female gender)-- player wise its been HARD for me to call Loque a guy, he always seems like a she to me and im a super lore geek

Man, id love to have spirit bear cubs with ban'thalos' wings XD The Loque/Skoll babies would be super adorable too (though i too see Skoll more as a male but... i can make room in my head for a female one ;D)

I'd looooooove for a random spirit beast to show up in my stables, perhaps a second Skoll or Karoma! Lol i guess, since you already own her, abandon that extra kitty (more stable space for new pets! XD)

It was a bug. It wasn't supposed to happen. Many complaints. Blizzard fixed it. Simple as that. :)

Petopia wrote: What happens to a pet in the stable?

When you move a pet into one of the inactive spots in the stable, it resets its pet talent points. when you take it out, it will have the right total points available but you will need to spend them into the pet's talent tree again.

Other than that, absolutely nothing happens to a pet in the stable. Stabled pets do not lose happiness, so they don't need food. They also don't earn experience or gain levels.

Sorry, but wiping talent points was never a bug. It was the intended mechanism.
That it worked erratically was a bug.
That Blizzard ended up removing the game mechanic, was an unannounced change.

BTW, this is an item that should be updated on Petopia's website.
