I was Eagle Eyeing around in Molten Front yesterday and I stumbled on a hunter trying to tame Deth'tilac. He didn't seem to have much of a clue what he was doing so I ran over to assist (and to grab the spider for myself if he got himself killed, I have to admit *cough*).
Once he had unshakable threat on Deth, I started helping.
At some point during the kiting, with both of us running side by side shooting at Deth plus me sacrificing a random spider to get the health down faster, the other hunter completely fell off Omen and Deth turned to me instead. He didn't feign (I was standing right next to him) and I was busy resurrecting my spider so I wasn't even doing anything.
I kept kiting, trying to keep enough space between me and the angry glow-spider and trying to practice for when I'd eventually be doing this by myself. Kite kite kite... and all of a sudden I completely drop off Omen, and Deth turns back to the other hunter. Again, no feigning involved.
Deth didn't seem to evade at all. I was shooting at him all the time and saw no evade messages - and I and the other hunter were standing literally on each other, so surely if some spot evaded Deth he should've reset, not turned to the other of us instead.
What gives? I'd love to know how this happens and if it's avoidable, just so when I eventually find my own Deth I don't randomly lose threat and lose it to another hunter.
Deth'tilac question - threat dropping?

Re: Deth'tilac question - threat dropping?
I hadn't seen anything like this myself. The only things I can think of are:
1. If the other hunter feigned/stood too quickly for it to animate to you properly,
2. If Deth got rooted, and only one of you was close enough for him to hit (although I've no idea if this actually touches Omen's count),
3. If there was something in the way between Deth and one of you, pathing-wise, regardless of the terrain you're actually on--or, of course,
4. There's something up with his threat
If I see him up I'll try and help whoever goes to tame him and see if it happens to me, maybe someone will find a pattern.

Re: Deth'tilac question - threat dropping?
With 4 people helping me; I still managed to get myself killed. When I ran back I starting shooting at him to build up my threat but the lock helping me was a lot higher. Climbing to about 20% threat; all of the sudden it spiked to 600%+ (WOW frame threat, don't have Omen). I got him. But I noticed that also.
Re: Deth'tilac question - threat dropping?
I actually had the opposite happen to me while I was doing my kite dance with Deth. I had my husband and another hunter whom I had just helped tame Solix earlier that night helping. They only managed to pull her aggro ONCE and then she [Mine is a she to me.] was bound and determined that she wanted to Deth Strike my face off.
My husband runs a 'Lock and was continually casting [Searing Pain] and anyone who runs a 'Lock KNOW how hardcore that pulls threat. Deth didn't want to have anything to do with that, at all, it was after me. I even had another hunter from the other side busting out his maximum dps to try and rip aggro from me.....he only help me in the end, but he was trying so hard my Deth died right at the end of my tame. [I thought I lost her and headdesked for a good five minutes there before I looked up and realized the dead body was tiny and a mouseover had me squeeling like an idiot.]

Exactly, it seems to pick a target and no matter what others do it keeps aggro on them until Deth changes his/her mind, drops all aggro and focuses on someone else.Thwip wrote:I actually had the opposite happen to me while I was doing my kite dance with Deth. Mm, but OP seemed to be talking about it more like it had a aggro wipe. If it had one, then I surely wouldn't have kept my aggro like I did. The only reason they had aggro at all at that one point was me backing up out of her range to rez pet. After that, no matter how much I backed up, it wouldn't drop aggro. The 'lock had to get in melee range before threat changed [Which I don't think the threat changed, more so, something was in melee range for a strike and it took it.] and that was only due to it casting one last deth strike to get it tameable.
[Yes my husband sacrificed himself for my spider. xD]
