I've been fairly idle here, but I've kept myself up to date with these "challenge tames". My main is a wuwly dorky troll hunter, and no I have never stolen a tame. (By stolen I mean distracting shot the mob and tamed it myself.)
At one point when you could get to Molten Front with just doing the one days worth of marks, I decided "why not, let's go have a look". After a few minutes of being sneaky-sneaky I got there and proceeded to run around with a warrior friend who could leap around ahead of me and see if it was worth the climbing. We got past the flames at Cauldron area with more or less successfully. I had spied something shiny on the rocks and wanted to go have a closer look.
And there he was. Karkin. Just chillin' and pyroclastic shotting people who got too close to his stone. It was hilarious to watch, before I got to srs bzns tame mood. I switched from my home spec of MM to my collector BM spec and pulled out my Chromaggus. Gave him a pat and waited for a turn when people wouldn't be aggroing him off me. /dance
Finally. I got my turn to try as people wandered off elsewhere. I put on Ancient hysteria, dismissed Sphÿker, aggroed with a tame, deterrence, haste potion and proper tame. My warrior friend was mainly just watching my back because... rogues. I'm a little paranoid on a pvp server. As the tame came off I got my lovely Candy. <3
Named so because 'Karkin' sounds like "of candy" in Finnish.
On the next day I was hoping around there with a hunter friend of mine and we spotted the shiny crab there again. Few hours before she had found Magria and I had told her how the tame should go. Am not a cat person (and I have 3 SB's already and only 2 free slots) so it wasn't a bother to me, just happy that she got a shiny kitty. As we climbed our way to the rocks I noted there were 2 other hunters there already trying, but not having either corehound or MM spec. *sad face*
Well, we watched them try and on the mean while I pointed out the easy ways of doing it. Sadly she didn't have an MM spec, so we both switched to BM and I sat down to wait. One of the hunters gave up due to lack of haste I guess and the other one either got a 2min resurrection wait time and a long run back or just /ragelogged. Don't know we didn't see him after his try. My friend got in position for a tame, I put up hysteria for her and she tamed it with no trouble. (Although she did have to rez me because of the AoE damage killed me.)
She was so happy to get Karkin before leaving to army, that I decided not to wonder more of the issue of why she usually wants only the spirit beasts. Guess it was the thrill...
Anyhow two weeks later, today, after finishing the Shadow Wardens daily part with my raiding mains, I hopped to my hunter for one last daily look with Eagle Eye. (Lovely spell, you can check all but one of the rare from the sanctuary area, very handy in pvp servers.)
I was all "hurr durr nothing to see here.... WAIT wut?! An angry beast patrolling back and forth?" and my first guess was a hunter grieffer who had just named his random spider with the same name. I don't get it why people do it. >_> It bothers me, even though SilverDragon doesn't care of it.
But... then I saw the spider running back and it was huge! Eeee! It was the real Kirix! I quickly checked my guildees online and got a shaman friend to give me a little bit of spell haste. So I made my way up the rocks and onto the one rock that was floating on the sides. (Jump buffs! \o/ ) While I waited for my shaman friend to come over, I watched terribly many people getting killed by him.
"guys, rly just don't annoy it" /palm
One guy from a bit of an elitist raiding guild tried to get people come and help him kill it. Thankfully a druid talked him out of it because of the crystal not being even worth their repairs for that. Bless him. I tried to solo tame him a few times on BM, but no luck. It took my friend a good 15 minutes to get over there. We failed a few times because of Kirix going "lol no i'm not your pet" even with the tame ending properly (*cough* I had to put up Jeeves even) Then we watched more random people getting stunned to death by Kirix while waiting for our rez timers.
Eventually I gave in and went to respec for Mirrored Blades and what other haste buffs the survival has. (I really don't like the spec anymore...) When I came back an alliance hunter was trying to tame him. I simply just watched there as I got back to the rock. He put up Deterrence way too early, before Kirix was even casting anything. =/
After he got a corpse run I got in position and aggroed him with a tame after my friend put up BL, hit deterrence only at the cast and then ....
Successfull tame! And that took me around an hour and half. It's been quite a long time since I've had a really hard time taming.
And those were in Wrath with:
- King Krush solo tame before the Tame Beast cast time was shortened
- getting to Loque from another server (friend tell), abandoning random wolf + spec change, wormhole to sholazar and cursing my slack mount (no epic speed ;_; ) the hard time in this was the time limit of when another hunter would find it or some Frostbitten guy would come and kill it
- and... taming Beast in UBRS with the Boss tag (moar haste guys!)
Now my fel spider needs a name. *goes to run around with new friends*
Edit: I'd like to add that I didn't try disengage tame, because there was a group of alliance players passing by occasionally... Never turn your back to an enemy if you have no pet.
